Romanian president blames media for "inflating problems"

Romanian President Traian Basescu said on Friday that <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/region-article.php?yyyy=2012&mm=02&dd=29&nav_id=79030" class="text-link" target= "_blank">Romania did not want to block Serbia's EU candidacy</a>, but rather remind the country about its obligations.

@ Jovan:
"although I am against Serbia joining this socalled "european" union, the last days and the conduct of romanian individuals will be remembered.
the romanian poeple should take care of them. the next elections will come, and than you can show what you think about those who tried to blackmail Serbia..
because,...in the end, they acted in an anti-romanian way, too."

If what Romania did was "blackmail", how could be described Serbia's attitude - delaying the agreement with Romania for years, until Bucharest is forced to bring the issue in EU arena, and then Belgrade signing it in two hours? Would be "deception"a too strong word? Or "dishonesty"?

The days of Basescu (and his party, the Liberal-Democrats) are numbered. It will be a miracle if the party will enter the next parliament. As for Basescu, he will not be entitled to run for presidency (having already two mandates).

The important thing is that the (good) relations of Romania with Serbia will continue. Therefore, Romania will keep its position over Kosovo, as has promised to Belgrade, and as it is doing singe 1999. Moreover, Bucharest will act as a friend of Serbia in EU: as everybody knows, Serbia has a difficult path towards EU, because Kosovo issue, and Belgrade will need all the support it can get.

The only question is: will keep Serbia it's word regarding the improvement of Vlachs/Romanians situation in Timoc Valley? Or Belgrade will just take the Romanian support for granted and will delay promised measures?

Right now, the ball is in Serbia's playground. We will wait and see if Belgrade delivers what was promised. And maybe this time will do it with appropriate speed, not waiting for another decade, and then - in the last moment - faking "suprise" and crying "blackmail" to its neighbor and supporter.

Also, supporting the normal rights of Vlachs/Romanians in Timnoc Valley may pe perceived as entirely in the interest of Romania. However, this is a narrow view. It is the interest of Serbia to improve its democratic credentials (and minority rights are among the most important ones), not only for securing the trust and support of EU governments, but also in order to strenghten Belgrade position regarding the issue of Kosovo, in the international arena. With Romania and the problem of Vlachs/Romanians in Timoc Valley, it is like with Jerry Maguire's saying: "help us to help you".

Last but not least: although the online communication it's considered rather informal, and despite the fact that English is not the mother language for most of us (I mean those who are posting here), a minimum level of polite expression would be recommendable not only in words, but in the writing, too. For me, this minimum would be to spell the names of individuals and peoples (Tadic, Basescu, Serbs, Romanians etc.) in the correct way. It is a matter of respect. So, one should write Serbia, not "serbia", and "Romania", not "romania". It is just my opinion, and I struggle to abide by this (self-imposed) rule. And I thank to all of those who do the same.
