I regret very much Primakov didn't become our president in 2000. He was appointed prime-minister after default and we expected him as a popular politician to run for presidency.

Lazar : “… After all, Yeltsin did chose him in 1999. Sadly many russians don't understand that they're from the same team”

Many of us do understand it and personally for me it was reason number 1 never to vote for him. Still there was time when I wished him presidency with 51% of votes. I believed that such a support will save us from dictatorship. In fact today for the first time in my life I agree Gorby to say that Putin has already done everything he could do for Russia. He was the leader we needed to stop the degradation. But now tied with obligations with the elites he is no longer the man we really need to move fast. He can do nothing with the corrupters who are his main plot in this country. All oligarchs are his friends cause it’s the main pre-condition of their wealth.

Though 99% of the participants in Luzhniki were obliged to go there it means little in this country. We are not Greeks or Italians to go outside each time we disagree something. But it is stupid not to see that Putin still enjoys the support of 30-40% in Moscow and Peterburg and 50% in the regions. ( In case of necessity missing 10-15% can be added during calculation.) They don’t demonstrate it but they will vote for him. Those are mostly the old the poor and the low educated. But they all have the right to vote. One cannot paint Putin in one color for he is a really great politician. Too many ifs and buts should be used to describe this man. And frankly he is not the worst choice at the eve of the great challenges we may face soon.

Regards !

"130,000 people gathered at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow to support Vladimir Putin who is running for president."

I wonder how many of them are state employees and/or came from all around the country with organized transports by trains and buses.

People have short memories and forget that under Yeltsin Russia was sold to Western carpetbaggers and Russian oligarchs. There was no rule of law and the country was in danger of being engulfed into civil war with its islamic minorities.Any objective appraisal of Putin will conclude that he saved Russia from itself.

I just hope that if he's elected again he could do more to enhance the personal and political freedoms of the ordinary Russians.

BTW Anti-Russian posters should never forget that without the sacrifices of more than 26million Russians Europe would've been under the Nazi boots today.

winston, the western imperialists like Putin. Didn't you notice that??? He's a perfect puppet. Now they are talking about selling off their entire economy to the West, to make it more efficient and whatnot. Russia is the West's bitch, no offense, but that's more or less how things are. Putin's a weak leader who dares not interfere with what the West does. If you want someone that is more inspiring take a look at Chavez or Lula. Meanwhile, I am sure that Putin will once again get 99% of the vote in Chechnia, and win by large margins in the Tyurk provinces. Afterall, the muslims support him the most as he calls them "my brothers".

I support Putin In Russia, mainly because he tells the western imperialists what they are, to their faces. Too bad we missed the rally, eh EA?

What fools. Supporting an enemy of Russia, a guy who is in bed with the oligarchs who robbed Russia in the 1990s. He's just Yeltsin's choice... afterall, Yeltsin did chose him in 1999. Sadly many russians don't understand that they're from the same team. Russia's so called recovery did not start with Putin. It started in 1998 after their financial collapse. That's when structural policies were changed, when the pro-West economic medicine was rejected. That is what saved Russia, not Putin by any means.
