"Austria, France, Italy urge granting of candidate status"

You clearly see, who are the enemies of Serbia - while Romania is going to block that idiocity.
After you get the candidate status the rivers will be of milk, the shores of honey and the garden fence will be made of salami. To a large degree "thanks" to E.U. regulations you can chose on any MALÉV flight what you want: milk, honey or salami.

To Christopher and Trizo :

1. Don't mix everything, when you mention the death of Brice in Belgrade. Of course it was a tragedy. The whole serbian people is not responsible for that but just a minority of extremist supporters like we have in france or in other countries (on 17 of march 2010, a french supporter was killed during some fight on football match PSG / Marseille)

2. I have many reasons to love serbia. My wife is serbian and my grand-grand father fought with serbian soldiers during first world war in 1915.

3. Just look at a map, place of Serbia is in Europe, not out of Europe

4. I even don't care about some economic reasons or financial interests to join EU.
In my mind, a sufficient reason is just: PEACE in Europe forever. Isn't it a good reason enough ??

What a person you are. Using the tragic death of a frenshmen to spread your hatered for serbs. Trust me when I say that albanians will never be respected in Europe or elswhere for that matter. Serbia was under sanctions and NATO bombardment and still it is closer to joining the EU then Albania will ever be.

@Andy UK:
Sorry, but you are wrong. Romania and Bulgaria overtook Serbia in terms of corruption and Standard of Living. The first can be measured with the Corruption Perceptions Index (Romania ranks 75th, Bulgaria and Serbia 86th). And the second with the Human Development Index: Romania 50th, Bulgaria 55th, Serbia 59th. In terms of GDP (PPP) they overtook Serbia as well. And they develop faster than Serbia. Especially since their accession to the EU. If you take into consideration that these countries were worse off than Serbia before, you can see that accession and implementation of better functioning legal framework and accession to the biggest economy in the world (you can call the EU with its high economic integration as such) was not to their disadvantage. And as well in terms of political power. Issues of a MS becomes EU issues as well and they can benefit from it. E.g Polish-Russian relations. That's as well a reason why some MS are afraid of granting Serbia the candidate status, because then the Kosovo Question becomes even more an EU issue. And Germany as the paymaster of the EU would need to pay even more than it already does. Not easy to explain that to the German voters. Though, I am sure both sides would benefit.

Serbia isn't getting it. I guarantee this! Also, being French you should be more concerned with whats going on with the Taton lawsuit that the family is about to bring against Serbia for the murder of their French son by Serbian honorable citizens during the soccer game. Serbs murdered that Frenchman with impunity. Of course he was beaten by a mob of Serbs because Serbs never fight equal powers or one on one.
(USA United States of Albania, 23 February 2012 00:23)
You are a bigot. Serbs didn't murder that Frenchman, some thugs did. The fact that Serbia paid the family of the New Yorker for his beating by one guy and now Taton's family wants to sue Serbia opens up a strange precedent. Now, every nation is responsible for what its citizens do? Wow! So from now on whenever an Albanian does something like trying to blow up US citizens we'll know whom to sue.
As for your part, why don't you use your brain for once, it's that squishy thing between your ears.

“We have conducted a thorough analysis of Serbia's progress and have come to the conclusion that the conditions have been met.”

To continue then by themselves, no one forced them, and say:

"On the IBM, a technical protocol will pave the way for its full implementation.”

Now or these guys think we are idiots or the well known double standards of some EU countries towards Serbia are showing their face again.
If the conditions have been after as your “thorough analysis of Serbia's progress and have come to the conclusion” why the need of “technical protocol will pave the way for its full implementation”????

Given that Romania and Bulgaria are already EU members (both years behind Serbia in terms of corruption and standard of living), the only reason for not giving Serbia candidate status is double standards.

The EU needs Serbia much more than Serbia needs the EU. They can't control you as much if you are not in the EU, they have tried using the carrot and stick and as enthusiasm for joining the EU falls amongst Serbian citizens they'll be desparate to give Tadic a boost and offer candidacy status before elections. I hope for Serbia's sake you never join the EU, you'll have no control over your laws, spending, borders etc etc. Around 78% want out in the UK- why do you think we were never given our promised referendum?I agree with others on this forum who say you are better off forming links with friendly EU countries. You only need to look at Greece to see the way things can go- controlled by Germany and the IMF .

I'm curious how B92 learned this information and is quoting certain parts of it....all of this was too easy but getting a copy of the letter sent by Pristina the other day is mission impossible?

I too support Serbia, not as a candidate, but as a full fledgling member of the EU as long as it recognize its neighbor and normalizes her relations with Kosovo.

If Serbia does not get candidate status this time around, then there is something wrong with the EU candidacy process. Drefran,

Moi aussi j'aime la France! :) i volim Srbiju!

I think Merkel is an enemy of Serbia and an enemy of slavic people.

I think it is great that we have your support, however the EU is so unstable at this point that I don't think it would be wise for Serbia to join.

Even if we get the candidate status we will still be 5 years + away from joining the EU, which gives time for events to unfold and see what the pros and cons will be in years to come.

Many Serbians believe that the EU will come at the expense of other important policies. Most Serbians would like to continue into modernization and have a strong economy that can provide jobs & surplus trade but the reality is, where in Europe are there lots of jobs and surplus economies? Germany only?

The advantages of being part of the EU were much more favourable when all was working like clockwork but now it seems that noone knows how this 'union' will pan out.

I would love Serbia to be in a union with France, Italy, Spain, Slovakia etc but NOT "some"..

Whatever happens I wish the best to all the "good" nations in the EU and also the very best for Serbia. I know life in Serbia is very hard for many people and wages are incredibly low. However, money is not everything and people have spirit and unity and they live life.

I'm about to move to Spain for work for 6mths and I will be visiting my family in Serbia before I go.

PS: Catherin Ashton is VP of the European 'Commission' isn't she?
The EU commission has already advised Serbia should be given the candidate status so why did France/Italy/Spain etc send the letter to Catherin Ashton??

You are a bigot. Serbs didn't murder that Frenchman, some thugs did. The fact that Serbia paid the family of the New Yorker for his beating by one guy and now Taton's family wants to sue Serbia opens up a strange precedent. Now, every nation is responsible for what its citizens do? Wow! So from now on whenever an Albanian does something like trying to blow up US citizens we'll know whom to sue.
As for your part, why don't you use your brain for once, it's that squishy thing between your ears.
