From what I have been reading Brice was attacked by a group of hooligans and beaten severely :(

This is so sad and so shameful that this guy has lost his life over 'football'.

He has a whole network of family and friends that will never have him in their lives again and it's incredibly sad.

Brice and his friends will never come back to Serbia and will only have bad memories to share with others and this deeply saddens me.

The only thing that comforts me is knowing that the people of Belgrade were saddened and laid wreathes and flowers at the statue in Belgrade to mourn the loss of this innocent man's life. I truly hope that Brice's family will not feel ill toward the Serbian people because of some thugs who cowardly attacked their son.

I read reports that Brice and his friends were going to the same bar in Obilicev Venac to watch the games and even wearing Serbian football shirts and made friends with all the bar staff.

I was living in Belgrade when this happened. From memory I thought it was not at a football match but watching the match at Obilicev Venac in Central Belgrade?

I'm not sure if this is correct but from memory I heard the French guy was at a bar supporting the team playing against Serbia, there was talk that a fight broke out and one of the Serbians punched him, knocking him to the ground and he hit his head. Does anyone have links to copies of the court documents and the accounts of what happened?

I remember that in the centre of Belgrade there were lots and lots of wreathes and flowers laid for the man that died, it was really sad :(

"While I have nothing but the deepest of sympathy for this family, I don't quite understand how they can or should sue the state of Serbia for their loss.
(Danilo, 20 February 2012 16:49) "

Remember the OJ Simpson case? The State prosecutor's office wasn't able to get a conviction on the murder charge, so the families brought charges against him in civil court, just as they might have brought charges against an airline in which a family member died. (They were awarded millions, and although they never collected much, there had to have been considerable satisfaction in the hassle they made of OJ's later life.) The parents will charge Serbia in this case because the State has a duty to protect innocent visitors against thugs, and because the perpetrators obviously don't have enormous amounts of money available, so it's not worth going after them. Considering what Serbia paid for Kovacevic, where the victim survived, the final award may be a considerable sum.

This will be interesting to see how it pans out.
