Gypsies in Serbia are going to hold their own referendum. They want to join Romania.
(Avni, 15 February 2012 23:30)
Your ignorance is simply breathtaking. What have the gypsies have to do with Romania? Is it perhaps because they are called Roma?
Nevertheless, your lot even kicked out of Kosovo Muslim gypsies and they live on the outskirts of Serbian enclaves – they feel save around Serbs than your lot. If I was you I’d shut up and not make a fool out of myself.

USA, as with most Albanian posters here, your English comprehension skills are lacking. "In the three towns that voted on Tuesday, the turnout was 48 percent" - there is still one more day of voting, so I imagine that that 48 percent figure will go up, don't you? Nice try at being sarcastic, but because of your poor English skills, you come off as sounding ignorant.

Judging from a lot of the comments on this site alone, it is obvious that Serbs and Albanians want very little to do with each other, more or have one rule over the other. Why in the world would anyone not support the referendum in Northern Kosovo then? Like Agim stated, these people are trying to find a solution that will work for them, a solution that Belgrade cannot find, because they are too busy bowing to the EU so that they can acquire their EU candidacy status, for whatever that is worth. They (Serbian politicians) are playing politics, they do not live in Kosovo, nor do they bear the hardships that the citizens there do. Albanians wanted self-determination, Serbs in Northern Kosovo deserve the same.

Its 4 Yrs since declaration of independence and it is clear that:
- Kosovo is NOT Serbia.
- Kosovo is NOT an independent state.
- We need some kind of long lasting agreement between Albanians and Serbs.
It is really no damage to partition this "state", which by the way even Albanians do not respect, why should Serbs do that?
It is good what Serbs of North are doing! They are the only group actively looking for a solution.

usa, before you finish counting your chickens, perhaps you might wait for them to hatch. 48% turnout OVER THE FIRST OF TWO days. If this single sample is extrapolated (inappropriate but lets play along) then you'd expect another 48% on day two => a total of 96% (pretty good turn out by any non-australian standards)
if no body votes on day 2 i will concede, but lets wait and see what day's two turnout is before making grand assumptions.

btw us voter turn out for obama presidental run in 2008 was 62%... not a very huge number for such a proud patriotic nation. I would expect 90%+ for such democratic and strong nations. perhaps voters all over the world are recognizing that it probably doesn't matter much.
i know that a presidential election is no where close to the same thing as a referendum, but the point of lack of excersing one's democratic rights is analogous

I wouldn’t shake that empty head of yours to hard. You obviously don’t understand how the voting is conducted in democratic societies. I would try to explain but I’m sure it would be to no avail. Kosovo elections come to mind. Remember “snake” and rigged elections in your own back yard. Where over 100% of voters voted. And as far is rest of the world is concerned, I wouldn’t be so sure. Because your education level is not high enough to come up with that conclusion. The only thing you understand is to come on this site to insult Serbs and spew your poisoned mind and hate. So don’t ever expect to get respectful comment beck from any of us. If you’re interested in constructive end educated debate backed by facts. Be my gust. We can discus it in civilized way. Otherwise you will get back what you dish out. And that goes to rest of you Serbian haters.

If you lived in the country your screename takes reference from, you'd know that most democratic elections result in a fraction of the electorate deciding the outcome of the entire community. How many people vote in normal elections? 40%? 45%? How much of that percentage elects the winning candidate? 55% or so? What's basically 50% of 40%? A small number always decides for the group. In this situation, it's painfully obvious what the outcome will be, so don't you worry about a small fringe group stealing the destiny of the entire community. True not everwhere elects people with 125% of the vote as in Kosovo, but the north isn't any anomaly :)

It means the serbs over there cannot do anything without the approval of the Goverment Of Kosova. Northern Kosova need's law and order and the only legetimate one who can offer that is the institutions in Prishtina.
(Demi, 15 February 2012 14:48)

Good God, after this referendum you still believe that nonsense? Did the Serbs get approval from the "Government of Kosova" to hold this vote? Do you even know what they're voting on? :)

Some 35,000 citizens are eligible to vote in the four municipalities.

In the three towns that voted on Tuesday, the turnout was 48 percent.

I'm just shaking my head over here in disbelief as is the rest of the world I'm sure. Just read that part of the article that I cut and pasted and think about it. 35,000 citizens out of 75,000(population of the north) are eligible to vote. This doesn't mean that they will ALL vote. Now they said that there was a 48% turn out of that 35,000 eligible voters. That means that ONLY 18,200 actually voted! Whats wrong with Serbians brains? They seriously need to get psychiatric help when they believe that 18,200 peoples is going to change ANYTHING! Also, its amazing that they understand that this referendum is seriously damaging Serbia and they dont care. 18,200 voters apparently mean more than the 7,000,000,00 Serbs of Serbia. This is how Serbia always loses! A small fringe group of Serbs somehow manages to gain control and they destroy the Serbian nation with a few ill thought out decisions.

18,200 Serbs believe that they are more important than 7,000,000,00 Serbs of Serbia. I just have to laugh when I think of that. With brothers and sisters like that who needs enemies? Also, only 18,200 Serbs out of a population of 75,000 in the north voted? That's pretty pathetic turnout. And Serbs like to think of themselves as "proud" and "patriots" but they can't even mobilize to vote in a referendum. Pathetic!

This referendum will not change the border between Kosova and Serbia.

It means the serbs over there cannot do anything without the approval of the Goverment Of Kosova. Northern Kosova need's law and order and the only legetimate one who can offer that is the institutions in Prishtina.

Serbia cannot do anything since it has agreed with Kosova where the border goes between Kosova and Serbia. Reamamber the 'integrated border managment' agreement?

As for
"The referendum, meant to make official the Serb rejection of the Kosovo Albanian authorities, has met with opposition from the international community in Kosovo and the government in Priština, who said the voting would have no legal consequences."

The same was said in the last elections a few years ago, no one would recognize the results etc. and what happened? They have to talk to the locally democraticly elected politicians, be it mayors or other people.

The same thing will happen this time, sorry Kalbos, No one will allow a pogrom like you did in 2004 again.
