Well done Mr Kostunica. It should be same for all others who continually behave in an arrogant manner towards our politicions. Use this guy as the example - and go all the way with. Show those others the disrespect serbia continues to receive. Embarress the Bast@#d.

Kathryn! I presume you are British.

Germans have tried and failed but you Brits succeed on that. Google search British empire and see what you see!!

Kudos Germany; against humbling odds you are a success story today.

@Kathryn:

Churchill once said " You either have the Germans by your throat or down to your feet".

I think Mr.Maas´ misconduct is owed to the lack of character in the current serbian government. with quislings like Mr.Tadic in power, you shouldn´t be surprised about this...

Germans have a tendency to be loud, bossy and boisterous. Remember they had the desire to take over the world twice. I know from experience they do not like Serbia. Tell the ambassador to go back to Germany.

shame, but he called you a lair, and you admit that he is not lying, then why you want an apology for. It should be you asking for an apology to your own people for not telling the truth.

Oh, the vanity. The former prime minister and now leader of one of the smallest opposition party which has a number of voters below the entry barrier feels insulted.

So, instead of starting discussions, simply bring some facts. What did Serbia gain from implementing the stability pact, and what did it loose?

And it's the sum that counts. If you lost 500 millions (as Kostunica claims) but gained 1.5 billions at the same time (as the German ambassador claims), you still gained 1 billion in total.

It's like a baker complaining 'oh, last year I spend some $1000 for grain' (and doesn't say that he gained some $5000 by selling bread)

Kostunica is right: Assuming the numbers are correct, he didn't lie, and he knew well what he was talking about.

The only problem is that he unfortunately didn't mention the 1.5bn that Serbia gained while implementing the EU agreement.

I'm sure he must have only forgotten it! As a former prime minister and a leader of one of the major opposition parties, he would never ever deliberately leave out this little fact just because a gain of 1bn in total doesn't suit well as an argument against the EU membership.

An attempt by DSS to poach support from SRS.

If Kostunica was serious about the subject he would produce some facts about how much Serbia lost through the SAA. He's also going to have to get used to the fact that he's the leader of a small party that will be happy as long as it gets past the census. The 'don't you know who I am' argument isn't going to win him many votes.

On another day of across the board downgrades of EU debt and banks, I wearily shake my head at the pro-EU fantasy camp that would criticize this brilliant man. Kostunica is widely respected in many countries, including the US, even if that mattered. He is a Serb patriot who is not associated with Milosevic. He is also wise and farsighted and he loves his people and culture. Unlike the LDP toadies he does not hate himself or grovel for foreign approval. It's your country, Serbs. It's up to you. But I think this man should be in a future government.

"I will not say that Maas is lying when he says Serbia is gaining from the SAA, although he is speaking untruths. However, before we engage in any kind argumentation and debate, the German ambassador ought to bring his behavior in line with that of civilized behavior," concluded Koštunica.'

Kostunica was actually being too nice. The German ambassador should have been kicked out of Serbia long ago, since his country is trying to steal Serbian land and award to to KLA organ snatchers. He needs to be told forcefully, that Kosovo is sovereign Serbian soil, and it is not his to give. Germany has never been Serbia's friend, and that has not changed, their actions show that they are our enemy, and should be treated as such.
Cheers!!

according to the article, the German ambassador said "whoever said this...".

So, Kostunica wasn't "addressed" by the German ambassador.

Another case of wrong anti-EU propaganda and dangerous populism. It is clearly proofen, that Serbia gains a lot from the EU. Easily accessible for everybody since the EU is not as intransparent as the corrupt Serbian government. Finally someone had the gutts to tell him some facts and Kostunica has nothing better to do than calling this person uncivilised. I think it is more uncivilised to lye to your voters than breaking a little diplomatic boundry while telling the truth...
