“Ah, OK... so the institutions of the so-called Republic of Kosovo do exist. I had the impression that that was not the case and the Republic of Kosovo was a dream state that did not exist in reality - but obviously I was wrong. Thanks lowe for clarifying.

I said that I thought Pantic meant that so called independent Kosovo does exist. Can you explain how this is the same as saying that the Republic of Kosovo exists in reality? Seems to me you still don’t understand the difference between “independent Kosovo” and “so called independent Kosovo” despite Merriam Webster.

And you have still not answered my earlier question regarding who exactly told you that so called independent Kosovo does not exist.

But who exactly was it who told you that “so called independent Kosovo” does not exist? Not Pantic surely as far as I could make out his words. I think he is basically saying that “so called independent Kosovo” does exist and that’s why he’s calling his referendum on this “so called independent Kosovo”. Seems clear enough to me.

“Again, for the sake of the argument, let’s agree that that calling it “independent Kosovo” is false/improper. So now back to my point; let’s take X = “so-called independent Kosovo” to keep the post short.

We’ve been told so far that X does not exist; but Pantic is saying that X exists, because I don’t want to believe that Pantic is hallucinating by holding a referendum on a non-existing X.

It seems clear enough to me. By using the phrase "so called" before the phrase "independent Kosovo", he is saying that the concept of "independent Kosovo" is false/improoper as per Merriam-Webster.
(lowe, 13 February 2012 03:21)

Totally agree – it’s very clear what he thinks about the naming “independent Kosovo”.

I think Pantic shares your hope that "the latter is not true", which in turn should mean that both of you hope that the so called "independent Kosovo" is false/improper!

"Absolutely it helped a lot. "So-called" is defined as (1) commonly named or (2) falsely/improperly. I'm not disputing the name of X though - I'm very happy with the name Pantic has used. I'm trying to understand whether X exists in reality or not.

Now back to the point. I'm trying to clarify whether the institutions of the so-called/falsely named/commonly named/improperly named/or whatever named Republic of Kosovo exist in reality, or Pantic and his 70.000 are hallucinating. I hope that the latter is not true because I really do care for the mental well being of Pantic and his 70.000.

Oh no, I don't think that Pantic meant that 70,000 people are hallucinating and seeing an independent Kosovo in their dreams -- he used the phrase "so-called independent Kosovo" instead of "independent Kosovo". I'm sure your fave Merriam-Webster can help you with the words "so-called".

“The fact is that you now have 70,000 citizens that are saying loud and clear in talks with the international community that they do not want to live and be a part of the so-called independent Kosovo,” he explained.

But we've been told that Kosovo is not independent, is it ? Are these 70,000 people hallucinating and seeing an independent Kosovo in their dreams ?!

About what? Finish your train of thought if you have one :)

The referendum will only make clear that referendums are in order. Expect referendums in all districts thru entire Serbia such as South Serbia, Vojvodina, Sandzak, etc. This will be interesting..
(Berk., 11 February 2012 21:26)

Yawn. That would have happened already if any of them were remotely interested in being pro-active. Albanians and Bosniaks just sit around and complain. They never do anything about it except emigrate elsewhere. I would however like to see more referendums by other Serbs south of the Ibar. Maybe even from the Gorani too. It would be interesting to see how many people really want to live with Albanians in the Republic of LaLa Land :)

The referrendum should be regarding whether the KiM should join RS or Serbia. Banja Luka seems to be more capable than Belgrade.
