Well Zoran, we are still doing much better than Serbia right now.

I was there last Summer and I did not notice it. I rather got impression, the Ukrainian areas bordering Romania are in better shape. In particular, the road from Maramureº to Suceava via Borºa was an eye-opener. The road contidions are horrible, so are the dark villages and the non-functioning street lights and very poor housing.

Looked worse, than Kosovo and it is an achievement.

The communication difficulties (language) was of course also the part of the frustration as well as the horrible waste of time you spend on the border. And the genuine idiocity of the border guards. We spent about 6 hours because of the Romanian (not Ukrianian!) border idiocities for nothing. Part of that was a broken computer of the Romanian border police.

The block housings did look really horrible, for sure worse than what I did see in Pogradec or Korça a month before. That, too, is an achievement. Largely, Serbia looks like Monaco compared with Romania, at least for me.

Of course Adrian, that's because the current government think they have "no alternative to the EU". Everyone aligning themselves to the EU will go down with it. The difference, however, is that we have an opposition ready to change that. Romania doesn't.

Mircea, I thought EU membership for Romania will bring wealth and prosperity? Instead you get austerity, which I have to say, is not being experienced with the BRICs. Could it be that Romania has moved from one bankrupt master to another bankrupt master?
