Take that back! That's not accurate. It wasn't "western aggression", but a complete and total good'ole American/Euro beat down that they gave you!! Who's your daddy? LOL!!!

Good old fashioned beat downs don't come from the sky, bombing civilian infastructure and being out of reach.

They come from mano vs mano style on the ground. You just didn't have the courage to meet the Serbs. Do let the world know when you grow a pair.

Besides oil, gas, timber, vodka, weapons and women what else does Russia export? The Russians are incapable of producing high-quality products that can be sold internationally nor are they capable of competing with the much cheaper goods that are being produced in Asia. I don't see the situation improving for Russia anytime soon regardless of who is in charge.

We Serbs can wait a very long time and we will not forget!

Yeh Putin doesn't like Russia's economy being dependent on Europe buying Russia's natural resources.
(Ian, UK, 30 January 2012 16:34)

I’d be more worried about the UK mate. Yesterday it was announced that the real rate of unemployment in the UK was 27% with youth (between ages of 16 and 25) at an all time high of 50%.

Cameron now is looking at means testing 1/3 of all government benefits which will be followed by another 1/3 by 2013. They are also looking at all subsidised medicine and doctors.

On top of that your UK has joined in placing sanctions on Iran so where will Europe get its oil from????? Yes give the man a prize, Russia.

Now once Russia starts supplying both who will have control? Europe or Russia? Think about that one.

As far as Russia being dependent on Europe to seel its oil/gas, dream on as the Chinese will buy all Russia can sell.

Here is some disturbing news – Britannia does not rule the waves.

I personally hope Putin builds two or three bases in Serbia with nuclear missiles!
That way Serbia would be once and for all protected from western agressions!

Putin says Russia needs new "economy".

It sure does! Way too many Russian brides have been sold through catalogue's throughout the world. Also, everyone's taste for Russian hookers is on the decline worldwide. Russia should partner up with Serbia and see if they can make an even worse car then the Yugo. Its quite possible if they get the right designers and engineers for the job.

I recommend doing this by decreasing corruption, and putting oligarchs in jail for their criminal actions in the 1990s. Not just some oligarchs... ALL oligarchs that did criminal activity.

It's a pity that many people comment of Russia without even bothering to inform themselves properly. A) 25% is nowhere the gulf economies and a pointless comparison, especially as Russia has massive intellectual capital and expertize in all levels of the sciences. Making money out if it is the problem, so for example the two russian inventors of the revolutionary material 'graphene' created it at a british university rather than a russian one. Compared to the west, it is much harder to spin off university based research into start-ups.

b) Russia has very good alternatives to exporting energy 'solely' to Europe. Japan, China and South Korea who will buy as much as Russia can offer. The pipline to Nakhoda has been completed to export to Japan. A branch off it to Daquing in China is also (I think) now built. South Korea is also a major purchaser of russian gas, the long proposed trans-North Korean pipline has now returned to the front burner. It is deeply ignorant to say that Russia depends on Europe and as anyone who has bothered to take notice, German-Russian trade even without including energy is enormous, not to mention investments and sales to other major european countries.

"Russian PM Vladimir Putin says his country's economy is too dependent on export of raw materials, and should focus on modernization."

Good that Putin realized it. Russia's economy is more comparable to gulf states than to a modern country with industry.

Somehow funny to read all his statements. It sounds to me as he wants to play an opposition leader to his own government?

A little question: Who was it who ruled Russia as a prime minister/president (in ever changing positions + some stooges filling the other role) in the last 12 years (and thus should have at least some responsibility for he country's status quo)?

Keep on dreaming!
With the finishing of the transsiberian oil and gas pipeline to China and Japan Russia will set foot in a giant market while Europe is crashing into 1000 pieces...
Russians are not dumb, they will not sell their goods in exchange for worthless Euro or Pound Sterling toilet paper!

Russia needs new leader too.

If you think that any future Russian government will be less nationalist you are leaving in a dream world...
