"Even Tadic doesn't expect that his proposals would be simply accepted - he wants to use them as a starting point: this is what we want. Prishtina will have its own starting point, emphasizing what they want. (And NO, guys, you canNOT have Nis.) That's how negotiations begin.

"I suppose you might have a case that Tadic's points can be found in Ahtisaari's plan ....... MINUS that little bit about Kosovo's supervised independence.

"Why shouldn't an American diplomat support Tadic's points, when they're all part of the Ahtisaari plan? A special status for the north, protection of the churches and monasteries, protection for the enclaves, respect for Serbian property ... what's new? Time to reword parts of the Serbian constitution and figure out how to make it work.

I think borders have to change so that Albanians and Serbs can be happy. I am not sure how happy Serbia would be to give up the Presheva valley so that it can go on with north Kosovo.

You have Serbs in the north of Kosovo so do you have Albanians in the Presheva Valley. Serbs in the north Kosovo don't want to be within Kosovo, the Albanians in the Presheva valley don't like to be within Serbia either.

Serbia has to make up its mind and cut the line.
