Personally I find this article refreshing as it’s closer to the truth than some of the statistics coming out of the so called advance countries.
Yes there is very high unemployment in Serbia, but the surrounding countries are no better – look at Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, BiH, Montenegro, Macedonia and so on. Do a little scratching on the surface and you will find all are hovering around the same percentage.
Why doesn’t the current Serbian Government do something? In order to do anything it has to restructure on a massive scale that would cause even greater hardship than we see today. Yes it would set Serbia on the right path for the future, but the social impact would be terrible.
So what you have is inefficient industries continued being propped up by successive governments, over employment all levels of government and a lack of will by governments to modernise the system. To be fair-minded it has to be said that past administrations did not have the will or resources to carry out changes either.
This is what you get when you spend half your energy for 12 years crying about Kosovo.

If Serbia has a 22% unemployment rate then Kosovo is about 80% to 85%. Wait till summer when the economic hardship bites even further and see how the unrest increases. But Thaci will use the police to keep them under control as requested by Washington.
