I cant see any win for your Albos as they will still be caged up in Kosovo and the best part of all it definitely puts a spanner into joining the EU works.
(sj, 11 January 2012 22:02)

The win for the Albos will come soon when that traitor of Tadic looses the elections and the Albos will not have to deal with complications like Serbia becoming an EU member.

LOL!!! Whatever happen to "Nema Predaj"? Apparently your own government of Serbia is telling Kosova Serbs "Predaj"!! It will be interesting to see whether or not the Kosova Serbs follow through with this referendum or do they "GIVE UP". Either way, its a win win for the Albanians. If they follow through with it, it ruins Serbia's name in the international arena and they move further away from the EU which is nice....

What are you on about?

These Belgrade politicians are only out to make a quick “buck” from the EU before being tossed pout on their ear in about 2 months time.

You have been living in the US for far too long and like the vast majority of Americans think that your interests are also of interest to the rest of the world – I’ll give you a hint; they are not.

"There is lots more to be done for the Serbs south of the Ibar, but the big problem is northern Kosovo, where Belgrade has not permitted Pristina’s institutions to be established"

IMHO opinions like that are exactly the reason why referendum is necessary: here the author implies that in northern Kosovo people would be very happy to accept Pristina’s institutions, but Belgrade doesn't allow them.

Very good post by Wim Roffel:

There is money to divide, so the Serbs south of the Ibar have a good reason to vote. In addition they know that if they don’t vote the local Albanian minority will get the majority in the municipal council and the Kosovo police will enforce their decisions. But the last weeks already two Serbs in the South have been killed by Albanians – showing how delicate their position really is. It is just that they don’t have a choice.

The Ahtisaari Plan does not give a wide array of autonomy. If you would propose such “autonomy” to the Catalans or the Basques in Spain they would just snicker. It is autonomy that requires permission from Pristina for every detail. In a corrupt environment like Kosovo that means you can take nothing for granted.

” resist not only Pristina’s authority but also the UN, EULEX, NATO and the EU.”
As far as I know the UN still hasn’t left its neutral point of view. The EU is showing a double face – but what else should we expect when its Kosovo policy is set by a man who previously was the prime foreign policy advisor of Blair.

“nationalist Serbs from all over Kosovo have retreated to the north”
Do you want to claim that all 20,000 refugees in the North who come from elsewhere in Kosovo are nationalists who can’t live elsewhere in Kosovo because they committed war crimes in 1999? Sounds to me like a propaganda trick to reason away that all Kosovo’s cities and many villages in the South have been completely cleansed of their Serbs.

Show me any returns to Kosovo’s cities. Show me young people capable of building a life in Kosovo. Show me anyone who believes that the villages in the South will not slowly die out. Maybe then will I believe that there is any good reason to bring Kosovo’s North under Albanian rule.

It seems like Ivanovic and the Serbian govt knows something that the ordinary Serb troll here don't.
What would happen if the people in North Kosovo vote in favor of the Kosovar government. After all the majority of Serbs in Kosovo - south of Iber - have accepted and participate in the Kosovar government and are quite happy with it.

'The state secretary pointed out that people in Kosovo, especially those in the north, did not have the luxury of having a bad relationship with the Serbian government, regardless of who was in it.'

Wrong. People in Tadic's government do not have the luxury of betraying their citizens in Kosovo. This is a peaceful and democratic act which will clearly show the will of the people, and the referendum will happen no matter what the undemocratic EU (Fourth Reich) wants. So to all the Vichy Serbs in Belgrade, shut the .... up.

The Serbs in Kosovo know that they have to follow through with this referendum and its only these chasers of EU bonuses that are crying. Stay the course and just move forward and don’t listen to these idiots from Belgrade.

God, I am so tired of these same old faces spewing their party line drivel on a daily basis. Eough with what the US and EU want - what do the citizens of Serbia want? Let's hold a national referendum with the question "Do we (Serbs) want to enter the EU"?
