Dont confuse the Kosovars with Albanians, we are not the same. Kosovars are muslims, Albanians are non-religious.
(Timo Flloko, 12 January 2012 01:22)

Yeah, but only when it suits you.

Exactly right. Only when it suits them.

you two are way to quick to jump to conclusions, read between lines and make grandious claims and assumptions with regards to daniels comment.
no where in his comment alerting adrian that this is not only being reported in b92, but also cnn does daniel mention that it is an albanian.
it is your assumption that it is an albania. the article simple states that it is a person from kosovo who is of the islamic faith. one is free to draw whatever conclusions from that, but before you bash someone for allegedly saying something you may wish to confirm the allegations. in this case it is you two who claim this person is an albanian, but present it with a negative claim "he's not albanian".
he is an islamic kosovar (by virtue of his nationality and his holy leader being an islamic holy man).

Bob is simple as that. B92 put in the title an Kalbanian. CNN doesn,t put in the title and all the article an Kalbanian Daniel says that this tow article are the same. Sorry but you don’t understand the difference between two articles. Albanian relations with the USA and the West are at an all time high! The USA knows this which is why this has not devolved into a "Kosova issue" in the media. Albanian relations with Europe is at an all time high. Serbians and their propaganda will never be able to break that friendship.
(USA United States of Albania, 11 January 2012 16:00)

The US had good relations with some of the most murderous regimes on this planet so good relations with the Albos is not an issue, but its the fact that it was an Albanain who did the biting of the hand that feeds him that would be noticed by the “average Joe” in the US” that is most interesting.

This is not the first time an Albo was caught doing something like this either.

He is either listed as from Kosovo or former Yugoslavia, he is also portrayed as a mentally unstable person and not a terrorist, and some have started to link his illness as a result of the violent campaign waged by Serb nationalists.
The next question is why did we wait so long before intervening?

What you Serbian cheerleaders fail to recognize is that it is only Serbs and Serbians that are turning this into a political issue and nobody else. Serbs are turning this into a "Kosova Issue" when in reality its the work of one guy...and an obviously mentally ill one at that. Again, trying to equate the actions of one deranged man to that of the entire country of Serbia's war criminal past in which hundreds of thousands of Serbian citizens took part is comparing apples to bananas. I realize all the nonsense spouted by Serbs on this forum is for internal consumption. Nobody else is listening and nobody cares.

Since 1999 there are over 100 thousand (??) internationals living in Kosova every day. They rent houses from us, they buy food form our shops, they go to our coffee shops, they eat at our restaurants, they drive their cars in our streets...

In all these 12 years not even a single incident has occurred. Not even a serious litigation over the rent, car incident and so one.

Consider also that after 1999 many people in Kosva posses small fire arms. Thus it is quite easy to find a stupid guy with a pistol. Again not even a single incident has happened in 12 years with tens of thousands of internationals living in Kosova.

So give us a break.
(ben, 11 January 2012 12:30)

Ben, are you from/living in/lived in Kosovo these past 12/13 years?
Because your comment is utter nonsense!
I became a victim of crime for the first during my first mission, vehicle broken into and bag stolen (on police avenue of all places!)
During the remainder of that period I, along with colleagues, was subjected to intimidation thru shootings, bombings and general harrassment intimidation within prizren AoR.
Almost forgot, the Bulgarian that was murdereded in Pristina 2000.
During my second mission, this time in Mitrovica, I recall two International Police Officers murdered in and around Pristina 2003/4; and lets not forget the number of Internationals who found there accommodation ransacked during March 2004.

These are the main ones that immediately come to mind, I am aware of others thru weekly briefings.

Care to revisit and amend your comment?

No punishment for him will ever be enough.

Actually he didn't get away scott free. He was tried in Serbia and has been sentenced to prison. Talk about scott free...why doesn't the US extradite Clinton for all the innocent people he killed with the bombings.

If Seselj has the "blood of thousands on his hands" then why can't ANY OF IT be proved!!! Where is your evidence? You have none. Because he is innocent!

That's the duty of every single country on the planet of looking after their own citizens. The Australian government recently went to extreme lengths to free an Australian citizen arrested in Indonesia for having a few grams of marijuana on him... It doesn't mean that Australians are trying to hide his crime or act like it never happened, it's just solid diplomatic work.

who really cares what the US and ethnic Albanians in Kosovo's relationship is.

the US don't really know what direction they are heading in. They can't have a finger in every pie because they will lose control.

like Sj said, they are trying to focus on Asia, a new base in Darwin, Australian, Clinton visiting Burma.

It's not that anyone is "looking out for" the Albanians but instead they are trying to hold back Serbia.

Germans, Austrians, Great Britain & the US. They all want to feel authority over Serbia in a sense. They will come undone soon enough because this mentality is unsustainable. The World is waking up & standing up to Uncle Sam & the like.

Most tourists who visit Serbia have wonderful experiences and have only good things to say about Serbians. I guess this is disappointing reality check for you Albanians who wish so much hatred upon us.

Well I know you hate us because our women are more beautiful :)

Of course it's only the deed of a single person. Just like the crimes in Kosovo (like alleged organ harvesting) are the deeds of a group of sick persons.
Funny the comments from both sides: Serbs trying to suggest all Kosovo Albanians are islamists and terrorists, Kosovo Albanians on the other hand show the usual denial when someone of their clan/family is accused of a serious crime and try to defend him instead of condemning it. As someone mentioned Anders Breivik: His father didn't defend him and denied all the allegations, unlike the members of the Osmankac family do.

As depression keeps hitting Kosovo the Albanians will turn to Islam and fundamentalism on mass and all of this about buying alcohol will be a past memory. Look at Kosovo in 12 months time and see how it changes. Anyway the US is in the process of leaving so your relation are immaterial – the philosophy of US of the late 20 early 21 century is “Yes I know what you did in 1999, but what have you done lately?” – they will wipe their hands of you as quickly as that. Can you really just explain these acts as those of mentally imbalanced individuals? Or is there a bigger problem here? Were there any KAlb terrorist acts against US servicemen before the US intervened on their behalf against Belgrade? I cannot recall any. Flawed US foreign policy coming back to bite us in the arse.

Silly USAians. Islam doesn't promote peace. It promotes that Muslims, through Jihad, should fight until there is no other religion on the planet except that of Allah (ie. Islam), and then, under the Ummat al Islam will there be peace...under Sharia law.
Technically, though, we could argue that Islam promotes peace - when everyone has succumbed to it and noone is left to challenge it. Then again, any ideology or religion could promote that kind of peace. And I guess it does.

At least he didn't regurgitate the famous bull about Islam actually meaning peace. It doesn't. Salaam means peace and Islam means submission, but I guess since the two words sound so alike, it's ok to just lie about it to the ignorant masses.

And what is this nonsense about this terrorist not speaking Arabic? Guess what? Out of 1.2 billion Muslims only about 300 million actually speak Arabic. This man is just a joke.

But I have a great idea - how about US-Islamic relations show their peaceful and democratic ways by aiding and protecting ex-Muslims from being executed, tortured and raped in majority Muslim countries? No?

Not all Arabs are Muslims and majority of Muslims are NOT Arabs.

It's interesting though, that a diverse group in terms of culture, ethnicity and language, such as Muslims, regardless of where they come from, seem to constantly 'misinterpret' Islam by trying to kill infidels.
I'm just saying.

Indeed, a very strange name I've never heard of for an Albanian. Nevertheless, it is good that this lunatic got stopped before he could really do some harm. No country is safe from those criminals. Just as Norway has his Anders Breivik, other countries have their terrorists. It is impossible to avoid that individuals do outrageous things. All what societies can do is to clearly condemn that kind of actions and here we have no doubts. Terrorists, whether it is a Breivik or Osmakac are outcasts and clearly condemned by their countries, even the families, unlike in other countries where suicide bombers become "heros" by family and society while getting paid by Iran.

Congratulations to the American authorities. They do a great job. Since 9/11 no successful terrorist attack happened on US soil. God bless!

Regardless of whether he is Albanian or not, I think any reasonable individual can admit that Islam breeds more fundamentalists than any other religion.

Muslims should be doing more to stop Islamic fundamentalists. SO many muslim terrorists popping up all over the world, planning attacks on the innocent in the name of Allah.. but apart from simply condemning these plots/attacks, what else is the Islamic community doing to prevent fundamentalism???

I believe in each to their own and freedom to believe what you want but something needs to be done to change the mindset of "killing the infidels & non believers of Islam" , it's simply ridiculous & the muslim society needs to make more effort to control & rehabilitate this fundamentalism.

I live in the same city in Florida as this lunatic (St. Petersburg, Fl) This guy is a radical muslim who has stood outside churches in the area and yelled at Christians for their beliefs. His family owns a Balkan bakery in which he was arrested for assaulting a 17 year old bc they said his clothing was "sexy." This guy is an idiot who gives the entire Balkan community in the area a bad name as the news here does not report him as Albanian rather as "a person from the former Yugoslavia."

Osmakac?! He is no Turk or Bosnian but an Albanized Serb. His surname is Slavic and characteristically Serb just like a third of Kosovo Albanian surnames. Os'm = osam = ''eight''. Ac and Ak are both masculine affixes and are redundant when doubled because they denote the same concept. Osmak means 'the eighth one'. The addition of 'ac' is a redundant modern addition under Serb administration long after the family was Albanized under Turkish pressure.

And on the same day the FBI announced the arrest of a former U.S. soldier "from Maryland" who had also self-radicalized and who tried to get to Somalia to join al-Shabab and kill Americans. In the case of this kid from Kosovo (who had grown up in the U.S.), it was the local Muslim community who alerted the FBI and helped them set up the operation. From his plan, as described in the news stories, he doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the shed - he starts out by trying to buy "al-Qaeda flags" ?? - but a fool with explosives is no more reassuring than a genius with the same devices. What was significant here was the immediate reaction of the community, I'd say - whatever nationality it was.

His family owns a Balkan bakery in which he was arrested for assaulting a 17 year old bc they said his clothing was "sexy." Merkel denies Serbia candidacy to the EU because we 'injured' two soldiers in a confrontation.

March 2011 a Kosovo Albanian shot dead two US soldiers in Frankfurt + injured two more, now a muslim extremist from Kosovo planned a terrorist attack in America, yet America & Germany still want Serbia to withdraw her legitimate institutions???

God bless!

What was significant here was the immediate reaction of the community, I'd say - whatever nationality it was.

the US don't really know what direction they are heading in. They can't have a finger in every pie because they will lose control.

Asia is now their worry not Kosovo as that yesterday’s issue.

Another point, let think for a moment he was Albanian. Orthodox, Catholics, Muslim all have terrorist of their own kind. Albanians doesn’t make an exception from other race of the world. Dehumanization of Albanians with a stupid propaganda by Serbs is one reason that Albanians get back Kosova. Albanians are everywhere in the world and keyboard haters like you don’t damage their reputation, but only Serb reputation. When you need to satisfy your hatred versus Albanians at least read the article.

I hope he rots in jail! This just goes to show how much Albanian Muslims from Kosovo really love the United States! This should be a wake-up call for US Foreign Policy in the Balkans. Let me also add that this isnt the first time an Albanian Muslim has tried committing terror in the US. Fort Dix New Jersey ring a bell? Wake Up! Kosovo Albanian Muslims are some of the most extreme muslim fundemamentalists there are! The Muslims in Albania are not even religious theyre mostly atheist! Just a few months ago it was planned to build a Statue of the famous Albanian Catholic Mother Teresa in the town center of Pec in Kosovo. Muslim Kosovo Albanians were up in arms against the idea and called Mother Teresa a whore and infidel and traitor to Albanians! Excuse me, but arent the Muslim Albanians the traitors to Albania since they converted to Islam after being offered land and wealth by the Turks? Catholic and Orthodox Albanians are not the traitors and infidels, it is you Kosovo Albanian Muslims who are traitors to your religion(originally christianity), your country(You supported the Ottomans), and to society! This terror plot just goes to show that you are ungrateful and extremist. Once again I would like to add that this is not the first time Muslim Albanian Extremists have tried to pull something like this off.

The addition of 'ac' is a redundant modern addition under Serb administration long after the family was Albanized under Turkish pressure.

Muslims should be doing more to stop Islamic fundamentalists. SO many muslim terrorists popping up all over the world, planning attacks on the innocent in the name of Allah.. but apart from simply condemning these plots/attacks, what else is the Islamic community doing to prevent fundamentalism???

All what societies can do is to clearly condemn that kind of actions and here we have no doubts. Anyway the US is in the process of leaving so your relation are immaterial – the philosophy of US of the late 20 early 21 century is “Yes I know what you did in 1999, but what have you done lately?” – they will wipe their hands of you as quickly as that. Asia is now their worry not Kosovo as that yesterday’s issue.

It does not get any sweeter than this – An Albanian…… This is only the start.
(sj, 10 January 2012 22:55)
In the US he will not be listed as Albanian and to my knowledge none of the major news sources have, some local ethnic papers such as in Chicago may. He is either listed as from Kosovo or former Yugoslavia, he is also portrayed as a mentally unstable person and not a terrorist, and some have started to link his illness as a result of the violent campaign waged by Serb nationalists.
The next question is why did we wait so long before intervening?

From the well known Serbian propaganda media outlet called CBS news (as linked below), here's the relevant information:

"U.S. federal authorities have charged Sami Osmakac, a naturalized U.S. citizen who is of ethnic Albanian origin, with plotting to attack Tampa-area nightclubs and a sheriff's office with bombs and an assault rifle to avenge wrongs done to Muslims. ...
U.S. officials are using a different spelling for his last name — Osmakac — than what his relatives use here in Kosovo."

Some more denial and twisting the facts by Team Albania? Any volunteers?

"B92 wrote that he was an K.albanian despite no proof yet that he is. He can be from Kosova and not be an albanian but B92 diden't consider that.
That is a punch under the belt.
...B92 stop with your propaganda! It wont make Kosova serbian :)

Demi, stop your usual propaganda and denial, it won't make Mr Osmakac become a non-Albanian from Kosovo :)

who really cares what the US and ethnic Albanians in Kosovo's relationship is.

the US don't really know what direction they are heading in.

The Serb embassy then issues this kid documents to flee to Serbia where he resumes his life like nothing happened, joing a Serb division 2 basketball team and living openly.

This is typical of how Serbs shield there criminals from justice and then attempt to erase the crimes committed.
(Dibrani007, 11 January 2012 00:57)

That's the duty of every single country on the planet of looking after their own citizens. The Australian government recently went to extreme lengths to free an Australian citizen arrested in Indonesia for having a few grams of marijuana on him... It doesn't mean that Australians are trying to hide his crime or act like it never happened, it's just solid diplomatic work.

Also, yawn. Another radical Muslim planning a terrorist attack? Next.

And like Ratko said regarding anti-Serb propaganda, there was an ESPN special about it. Had this kid been tried in the US he would be facing the same type of court system Seselj is facing at this exact moment.
(Steve B., 10 January 2012 22:16)

This monster left an honor student in acoma and got away scott free. That is Serbian justice for you. As for Seselj, he is a warlord with the blood of thousands on his hands. In my opinion he was the single biggest instigator of wars in Yugoslavia and his rhetoric made it possible for Serb paramiliaties to carry out their horrendous crimes. No punishment for him will ever be enough.
(Dibrani007, 11 January 2012 00:32)

Actually he didn't get away scott free. He was tried in Serbia and has been sentenced to prison. Talk about scott free...why doesn't the US extradite Clinton for all the innocent people he killed with the bombings.

If Seselj has the "blood of thousands on his hands" then why can't ANY OF IT be proved!!! Where is your evidence? You have none. Because he is innocent!

Some Albanians here are trying to dismiss this KAlb terrorist as an outlier. How do they explain 3 terrorist attacks on US service men and women in the last year or two? All exceptions? Can you really just explain these acts as those of mentally imbalanced individuals? Or is there a bigger problem here? Were there any KAlb terrorist acts against US servicemen before the US intervened on their behalf against Belgrade? I cannot recall any. Flawed US foreign policy coming back to bite us in the arse.
Holbrooke rolling in his grave now?

I live in the same city in Florida as this lunatic (St. Petersburg, Fl) This guy is a radical muslim who has stood outside churches in the area and yelled at Christians for their beliefs. His family owns a Balkan bakery in which he was arrested for assaulting a 17 year old bc they said his clothing was "sexy." This guy is an idiot who gives the entire Balkan community in the area a bad name as the news here does not report him as Albanian rather as "a person from the former Yugoslavia."

you two are way to quick to jump to conclusions, read between lines and make grandious claims and assumptions with regards to daniels comment.
no where in his comment alerting adrian that this is not only being reported in b92, but also cnn does daniel mention that it is an albanian.
it is your assumption that it is an albania. the article simple states that it is a person from kosovo who is of the islamic faith. one is free to draw whatever conclusions from that, but before you bash someone for allegedly saying something you may wish to confirm the allegations. in this case it is you two who claim this person is an albanian, but present it with a negative claim "he's not albanian".
he is an islamic kosovar (by virtue of his nationality and his holy leader being an islamic holy man).
(bob for apples, 11 January 2012 19:45)
Bob is simple as that. B92 put in the title an Kalbanian. CNN doesn,t put in the title and all the article an Kalbanian Daniel says that this tow article are the same. Sorry but you don’t understand the difference between two articles. If you don’t understand the difference I’m right for the sick Serbian society, Another point is no Albanian in the forum is protecting the sick behavior of this individual, but are criticizing the generalizing of this act for all Albanian or muslin for this act. Simple as that.
