What a load of scaremongering guff from a newspaper in which I wouldn't wipe my arse with even if I had a dose of the trots. The K-Serbs should go ahead and give the two fingers to Merkel, Hash and the internationals in Pristina.

Now let's see the Eurotrons squirm.

The Germans are not going to let Serbia into the EU, not now not ever. The EU is broke and Serbia would not end up contributing by buying German manufactured goods. That and providing jobs for bureaucrats is the only reason it the EU exists. In fact you would need loans to help you "compete" with other EU members which would only make the average Serb poorer trying to repay these loans... although it would enrich your politicians.

I have no doubt that Merkel doesn't care for Serbia, but that's secondary to real issue of what it would cost Germany to let Serbia in. They've already let in too many economic losers and Croatia and an Albanian state have nothing positive to offer the EU and it's very unlikely they'll ever be allowed in either. They can't keep bringing in Dead wood, that's just reality. Germany is already paying to high a price for doing that.

The Franco-German alliance is working hard to end Democracy within the EU. Greece and Italy are now ruled by EU bankers chosen by Germany. A referendum by Serbs in Kosovo would greatly anger Germany. However, since Serbia is not going to be allowed in anyways what are the Germans going to do? Not let you in twice? Are Serbs really that willing to give away their country to the EU so you can be run by Germans? I don't think that historically speaking that has ever worked out for you. But what do I know?

It's interesting what people like Willi Pfaff think - Willi Pfaff, do you think that

1) KSerbs in general want Prishtina rule, only few KSerb criminals don't want it
2) KSerbs in general don't want Prishtina rule
3) It's unclear, to know it for sure referendum must be held

Please, answer my question.

Very strange that the DS keeps repeating how bad the referendum is and how disappointed the EU will be. If ms. Merkel complains Serbia should refer to her generals who in the German press claim that the Northern Kosovo Serbs would be happy to submit to the rule of Pristina and are only stopped from it by "criminal elements" who control Northern Kosovo.

If there was no doubt about the opinion of the Serbs in Northern Kosovo there would indeed be no need for a referendum. Unfortunately there is with quite a few internationals maintaining that most Northern Serbs favor Pristina rule while the chosen leaders of those Serbs claim the opposite.

If Merkel wants to avoid the referendum she should send Bühler and other internationals who have claimed that Kosovo's Northern Serbs would favor Pristina rule to press with the message that they were mistaken or lied. Then there would indeed be no more need for the referendum.

Those two Serbs were armed to the teeth and were shooting at everybody. They got what they asked for.

'Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti writes today that if they turn out in force and reject this, "it will mean a new irritation to German and strengthening of its hard-line attitude against Serbia's candidature".'

Good! Let the krauts know, we are not their friends, we will not succumb to their ultimatums, and they are not welcome on sovereign Serbian soil. If they are so perturbed by a peaceful democratic referendum, then they really have not changed much from Schicklgruber's time, have they?

Turkey got its EU candidature all the way back in 1999 ...... and has remained stuck in limbo since ..... if Serbia were to give an arm and a leg to get the same candidature, she could well end up with nothing in the end if the Turkish experience is to be taken as a lesson. I don't think Tadic is being honest with his electorate when he seemed to be making a big deal about the importance of getting EU candidature come what may.

So what is Serbia supposed to do? Should it be Germany's little obedient bootlicker? I cannot believe I am reading this. The Serbian government should go and collectively jump in a barrel of crap. I am ashamed at what I am reading? Have we Serbs lost all dignity for the privilege of being the EU's consumer territory? Let's have a real referendum, and ask the entire Serbian nation whether it wants to join the EU. But I don't think our politicians have the manhood to ask that.
