don't think so. Milosevic is long gone why the West is still distrust and punishing Serbia by taking away its priceless Kosovo province and continues dictating it's national & foreign policy??

Serbia does not need "western poodles" in power but it needs independent minded & nationalists leaders who are loyal to the Serbian people and its domain.
(PRO-SERBIA, 1 January 2012 07:40)
Milosevic was one man, his vision was part of a nationalistic view. Do you really think the views you express here are that far distanced from his.
for those who want an Albanian free Kosovo or a sub class of Serbia are in the same class as Milosevic, so why do you wonder why the west has not embraced the "new" Serbia. It is because it does not exist and the only chance to end the protectorate status of Kosovo is to have it removed from Serbian grasp.

Reading these forums, the Milosevics are far from gone. Anyway, it was Serbia which did not want Kosovo - that's what Serbia said when it forced hundreds of thousands of Kosovo inhabitants to leave Serbia and a few years later told the Kosovo inhabitants they are not part of Serbia so they can't vote on Serbia's constitution. So, for Serbia, Kosovo is very far from being "priceless".

And then lead Serbia into a similar mess to the last 'strong president' Milosevic, or what?

Milosevic wasn't strong president, that's why he lost. Tudjman and Thaci, on the other hand were/are strong politicians, they won a lot for their people.

“The majority of the people in Serbia want to join the EU and find that issue more important than Kosovo, he stated, adding that it would be a fatal signal if Serbia were not granted EU candidate status and Germany held its position. Serbia has completed its security and political tasks and must now be treated similar to Croatia,” Darabos concluded."

Huh? EU more important than Kosovo to the Serbians? I could have sworn that the polls tell a different story. http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?id=n266916

“The Serbian government has made clear its stand regarding the Serbs in northern Kosovo, he said. They should not suffer because the Kosovo Serbs have not met the requirements,” stressed the Austrian official, who is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria. "

I, on the other hand think that Serbian government did not meet requirements it needed to join EU.
Position of northern Kosovo Serbs i clear and not surprising - who wants to be cleansed?
But, unlike other EU puppet governments, Serbian government failed to act upon EU agenda, and instead of actions, they limited themselves to words only, as mentioned in this part - "...good-willed advice coming from the government in Belgrade,”

Serbian government should have sent troops to the north and burn Serbian homes and churches there, ethnically cleansing the population, as all other pro-European governments in the region did...

One thing is puzzling (??????)

"“The majority of the people in Serbia want to join the EU..."

Really???

"...citizens’ support for EU integration to only 28 percent, a poll conducted by Partner Consulting shows. "

If majority of Serbians support EU integration now, it would be a most significant change of public opinion in world's history, in only one week.

The only other plausible explanation would be that EU guys can't count, and think that 28% constitutes majority.

With that in mind...we should keep a good eye on the upcoming elections.
Who knows how will they count the ballots?

"Darabos noted that he saw honest efforts by the Serbian government to settle the northern Kosovo issue in a way that would lead to Serbia's recognition of Kosovo's independence."

Your assumption is incorrect! The Serbian people will never allow it. Kosovo province will always be part of Serbia.

Nationalists victory?? you damn right! a strong president and PM will replaced these weak politicians in power.

Show them the finger and they will come running and begging Serbia. It's already starting, as you see. I think the undemocratic EU overlords have seen he latest polls in Serbia, very negative towards the EU, and are panicking.

Serbia has completed its security and political tasks and must now be treated similar to Croatia,” Darabos concluded.

It becomes more and more obvious that the only reasons to deny the candidate status were German objections, only caused by the incidents in Kosovo where German troops were injured. For me, it's a childish behaviour, and not worth for a politician like Merkel who advocates a united Europe. So, 100% agree, Germany was wrong.

Happy new year 2012!
