Of course, we were speaking about the US – read again your post of 31 December 2011 06:47 in case you forgot.
----------

Read my earlier comment slowly again - Look at the proposal to cut back on expenditure. They say 200 billion per year for a decade but in the meantime they are going to borrow 1.4 per year for that same period. So you save 2 trillion but will borrow over 10 trillion – is there something wrong here or is it just me??
(sj, 2 January 2012 01:57)

Yes, something it definitely wrong with you because you are missing the larger picture.

I work for a merchant Bank and they do not have depositors. I’m a tad lost here so how does the US make a profit? The entities do not put their money in US bonds to make profit for the US; there are certain guarantees the US has to give to ensure security for the money and any shortfall you make up with paying extra taxes.
(sj, 2 January 2012 01:57)

Well dear, if you are lost, then read some finance books. I explained to you once. It’s very simple – the US earns a higher interest rate on its assets with the rest of the world than the interest rate it pays for its liabilities with the rest of the world. So, on a net basis, it gets a profit - hundreds of billions per year.

Moore was only pointing out the fallacy of the myths perpetuated by Hollywood. When I was in New York recently I stayed in a boutique hotel and the lady who cleaned it each morning could not speak a word of English, but her colleague could. This lady arrived is from Nicaragua and she works from 7am until noon at that hotel then she catches a bus to her next employment which starts at 1 pm until 6 pm; her husband has the same hours. All for 7.50 and if you think this is heaven then you’re in the right place and thank god I do not live there. The only attraction is the exchange rate and when they return these people boast how successful they have become, but they don’t yell their family they clean hotel rooms.
(sj, 2 January 2012 01:57)

I’m not in that place because I think that’s misery – I’ve told that to you many times. After your excellent economic and financial analysis I moved to the Chinese paradise. But the lady that you brought as example definitively thinks she is in the right place. Now, if she and millions like her are thinking incorrectly, then we should not tell that 7.5/hr to the Serbian, Albanian or Chinese populace because that will cause hundreds of millions of people to immigrate to the US misery because, on average, they earn much less than 7.5/hr where they are now. We need to convince them than immigrating to China is a much better alternative. True, they will earn much less and live in more poverty, but they will have the great privilege and spiritual benefit of having the label of citizen of a true superpower.

True, I hear the Serbs with university degrees also wash dishes and clean toilets in Western Europe because they can't get better jobs but stay there anyway.
I was speaking to my cousin who says that these people are willing to do these jobs in Germany but would never consider it in Serbia.
Many Serbs returning to Serbia on a holiday also don't help with the truth. They pretend they are well off here but I know that many take out loans to travel there.
All this adds to the myth of "wealthy west".

“Well, a net income of about USD 200 billion PER YEAR is a significant amount dear, even for US. That’s close to the GDP of entire countries like Nigeria, Philippines, Pakistan, etc. Anyway, big or small, my point was that the US is making money from the rest of the world because the rate it pays on liabilities is lower than the rate it receives from assets. Dear sj, as an expert in financial and economic matters, you should know already that the balance sheet has two sides; assets and liabilities. You only speak about liabilities, but you forget that US has assets, too. So, if you research a little bit the data at the Malaysian Merchant Bank where you work, you will find that the net debt that US has with the rest of the world is only about USD 2+ trillion.”

Since Richard Nixon’s time and sped up during Ronald Regan’s presidency successive US administrations have been selling off government-owned assets. I’m a tad confused as to what assets you are then talking about? It was the mantra repeated over and over again that governments should run government and not businesses, and with that we saw the sale into private hands of water, energy and many other things that should have remained with government.
The only real assets that the federal government has is about 400 billion in gold reserves and the ability to tax the populace as everything else has been sold off. Whatever other assets do remain are with the States, which very soon will be disposed of as they have to manage their debts.
Back to reality you still have federal government with 15.2 trillion in debt. Do not confuse assets owned by corporations with government assets. They are two different things altogether. If it gets too hot for a corporation it will pull up stakes and relocate elsewhere in the world, but they will still own that mine in Idaho or that copper smelting plant in wherever.

“However, that is not the whole story - it gets even better for the US. The US receives a higher interest rate from its assets with the rest of the world than the interest rate it pays on its liabilities with the rest of the world. For example, in 2011 Q3 the US paid interest and dividends to the rest of the world of USD 127 billion, but received interest and dividends from the rest of the world of USD 187 billion.”

About 3 years ago I was in a Washington for a conference and while in my hotel room watched a news program about the GFC and how it affects the US. I recall watching this thing with my mouth open at the puerile nonsense being passed off as real journalism – it was a New York Times journalist talking to the audience like I would talk to my 2 ½year old grandchild; explaining how the US was only going through a “rough patch” and that in about a decade it would be back on top.
In the last 15 years official government financial papers have become harder and harder to read or make sense because governments don’t want to worrying the people. This covers all western governments not just the US. They are lying to you.
To you, your neighbor or me, 127 billion or 187 billion is a heck of a lot of money in anyone’s terms. In fact all three would never see that much money in our lifetimes if we pooled all our incomes and assets, but when you are dealing with a government the size of the US this is chicken feed.

In order to keep Serbs in Kosovo one has to undertake the risk of being involved in the conflict with Albanian nationalists. KFOR doesn't want to have such a risk, while Serbian army DID.
(aaayyy, 31 December 2011 17:43)

KFOR did not have an issue to shoot at Albanians and kill them in 2004 (of course Albanians who were committing crimes - not against any person they saw on the street) acting even more decisively than the Serbian army did. Whether KFOR wants to take that risk or not is irrelevant - KFOR has a mandate to do it and is clearly doing it by intervening these days to ensure the freedom of movement of Kosovo Serbs.

The US now owes 15.2 trillion and it borrows anywhere between 1.4 and 1.6 trillion each year so it will have say 16.5 trillion by this time next year and that is if the economy does not get worse (considering that the EU is now well on its way to a deeper recession the US will feel the full hit causing it to go even deeper into its current “recession”).
Last night, on the PBS program Ray Suarez, chaired a discussion on p3ople living in difficult times or poverty. As a lead in to a question he said “considering that Latino Americans have lost 67% of their wealth due to this GFC…”
Now if the US had an economy of 14 trillion prior to the GFC and now we have this statement from Suarez, what do you think is the size of the US economy today???? Your middle class is disappearing while they join the ranks of the poor and the 5% get richer and richer. The west does not care at all about Kosvoa, mate. It’s only interested in Camp Bondsteel and that is the reason its making Pristina negotiate with Belgrade.

(sj, 31 December 2011 01:06)
Considering the fact the west is out to try and build a multiethnic society(whether possible or not) they are trying to work with the Serbs. Serbia(Russia) and the west have different goals. The west wants to keep the Serbs there, S/R wants the Albanians gone. They have put up with it for 12 years and trust me 12 years ago Russia was no force to reckon with. Today it is not much more than hot air.
Get over the Bondsteel claims, and do practice what you preach. Don't believe what the propaganda presses print. Bondsteel offers the US nothing that they could not have gotten with any one of the neighboring countries without 1%of the problems of Kosovo. If you would have ever visited Bondsteel you would have a clue. It was developed as a temporary base, could it be used for more in the future sure, but nothing has been added in years. But with the entire area either NATO or NATO wanna bees there is nothing that Bondsteel adds for the US or the west.

Yes, fortunately, the place where they belong.

Nope, even most Serbs (except for the nationalistic extremists) are realistic enough to admit that Serbia with his politics was mostly responsible for the ex-YU wars. In fact, this alleged 'organ harvesting' is supposed to have happened AFTER the war in Kosovo, commited by criminal groups. And the distinction between criminal groups and 'freedom fighters' is not as clear as some people try to believe.

To answer the Russian ambassadors question - The organ snatching fairytale has been exposed, it began as an attempt to implicate Albanians in heinous crimes which they did not commit nor had the capacity to commit and it has ended as a baseless, entirely unproven allegation by Serbs looking to divert attention from their own filthy crimes which have been proven and documented as a warning for future generations.

How many times can the Serbs cry wolf and expect to be taken seriously. These organ stealing accusations are so ridiculous Even B92 publishes stories on a rather frequent basis that are sensational in nature. The entire Serbian press lacks credibility as a result of making provocative headlines on a regular basis. This is something West Europeans find quite amateurish and silly.

A Kosovar

pre 12 godina

The orchestrators of the genocide in the Balkans are either dead, or in the Hague.

The whole "organ trade BS" accusations by Serbia (with the help of Mother Russia) are a desperate attempt to improve its image, that has been destroyed beyond repair by its aggressive irredentist policies of the 1990's.

It Serbia's final attempt attempt to tweak and portray the Balkan wars of the 1990's as wars between the equals. It is their attempt to re-write the history. It is a desperate attempt to equate the aggressor (uhm, that would be Serbia) with the victims.

It will not happen. The wars of the 1990's in former Yugoslavia were what they were: lead by the Serb controlled army, that inherited all the Yugoslav Army equipment and used it against unarmed civilians in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo.

Come on - all of you said 1 million Kosovo Albanians ran away from Kosovo into Albania and Macedonia because of NATO bombs, give me a break. Do you actually believe that? I bet you still do!

“Russians and Chinese are concerned about EU collapse ?! But I thought Serbia and Kosovo are on top of their agenda and they love the EU to collapse so that Serbia can benefit - even though Russia and China stand to lose. The only thing they care about is to see Kosovo back under Serbia (assuming, of course, that the average Chinese even knows where Kosovo and Serbia are, not like the American ignorants). “

How many times do you have to be told that the so called bailout has to do with advantage not sympathy??????? The Chinese want free trade while the Russians want “influence” or to you and me, control.
Let me repeat what I have said many times before, the Chinese are near self sufficient in that their middle class is rising not in the thousands but millions; in fact its middle class outnumbers the entire population of the US – once again the Chinese middle class out numbers the entire population of the US.
Now the Russians have more to “lose” in the fact that if the EU goes under they will have to deal with numerous governments all with their little hands out for help. But it’s not too burdensome although it’s easier to deal with one than say fifty. The reason the Russians are concentrating on Kosovo is because they will not allow Serbia to become too western friendly ala Tadic as this snake would then join NATO and that is not in the Russians interests. The Russians want to keep the pot boiling as they are well aware that 2012 is going to be an even more difficult year for the west as the EU goes into a deep recession and the US further into depression and that is regardless of the BS you are being told about stocks rising because of “new data showing and improvement”.
Unfortunately the Americans are one of the most ignorant peoples on earth. I have relatives over there and when you talk to them it’s like they are programmed and their response is “the US is the greatest and in a decade we will come back” – these are the exact words that the US media uses.
The Chinese are far better educated than the average American who in the late 1980s could not tell the location of the US on a world map – it was a test carried out on senior students in high school. They gave them a map of the world but it had not markings on it and they were asked to locate the US and several other countries. The results were terrible.

“you are totally wrong about that... do some research first about who are the holders of the European debt and you will find some suprising (for you) results. “

As I am ignorant of this fact tell us how much of its 15.2 trillion debt has the US invested in the EU? You do recall that the US banks are technically bankrupt because of those toxic loans.

“You mean the Russian empire whose population is declining almost 1 million per year?”

Money rules the world – forget that BS espoused by religious group that if you are poor you will to heaven. It’s MONEY and not numbers.
I know it’s a favorite topic of Muslims that they will one day rule the world because they are going to outnumber the others. What are they going to eat when 95% live in the poorest countries in the world? No money = starvation.
On the subject of population, if you take a closer look at the US it’ population has only increased because of migration not due to births in that country.

You know in the current battles in Kosovo it seems like Russia is standing on the sideline criticizing the west and making a lot of statements and accusations. But you know what, they are doing it FROM the sidelines, they are not even in the ballgame and in no way controls the game.

-He underlined that Russia did not want silence to wrap this monstrous crime, but that for some reason that were unknown to him, there was a certain resistance in his western colleagues regarding a full investigation into the crime contained in the report by Council of Europe Special Rapporteur Dick Marty. --

Can you imagine. russia -- one of the worst violators of human rights in the world! pretending to care about human rights issues visa vis the marty SMEAR report which was obviously cooked up in Moscow/belgrade, marty's wacked out mind, enough said.

it is not just that this is so obviously a cheap soviet (russian) political stunt. the whole trajectory of matry and co. is meant to continue to cover up serbian war crimes, which oops, never get mentioned here, at the UN. well yes, there is currently that trial ag. a small group of Jackals. but you know that every single such trial has come only with the greatest pressure from outside forces, and human rights advocates in serbia such as natasa, who are utterly marginalized and silenced in blgd's award-winning media, give me an f---ing break! eleven years plus after the fact, and that particular massacre was well documented a decade ago by American Radioworks, for anyone who is interested in real and horrifying war crimes.

i mean it is one thing to have such a media over there, and then quite another to crow on and on about all of the awards that they most assuredly do NOT deserve.

I can't speak about individual journalists, some of whom are brave and retain integrity but in general the media there is in horrible shape. keep it up and look to mother putin/russia for yr future.

Speaking of, there is a terrific article in the latest issue of the New Yorker about the state of things in russia, as in human rights, and it is bad, worse, worst! but the article is fascinating and it's by david remnick. i'm sure the "patriots" would call it bbc propaganda, bla bla bla, but it really is an example of praiseworthy, which is not dead by a long shot, thank god!

one day when the war crimes and cover ups of serbia are exposed on the international scene (beyond all the ones that have already been exposed), then ppl will have to remember our warnings, and their media can feel duly guily.

Ot's quite obvious Mr. Russian ambassador why the West, especially America, does not want KLA organ-harvesting crimes investigated. The US had the KLA on there State Dept. terrorist list in the late '90's. But when the US needed the KLA to serve as their ground troops in Kosovo against Milosevic, they took them off of that list, and they became allies all of a sudden. If the KLA, and Mr. Thaci as their leader, was ever convicted of these horrific organ-harvesting crimes, which I personally and many others in the world community believe did occur, then what kind of light would that put the USA in? Since your initiative in UN SC is political/propagandist thus you get the NIET.

You are interested in creating a precedent and place in same level the victim with the butcher.

Here the biggest puzzle is why US/EU are pressurizing Kosova to reach even unpleasant agreements with Serbia just for the sake to speed up Serbian EU integration process??? and at the same time ignore the Russio/Serbian aggression on propagandist level which is carried on on daily basis. EULEX is EU mission, Serbia wants to join EU, Serbia considers EU countries as their partners and same does Kosova. So what problem has Serbia with EU/LEX that needs Russian and UN SC involvement?? The only reason is to have UN certificate that Serbs were victims as well. Well no way Jose.

This your dirty initiative would be sufficient for any independent and sovereign state to block the Serbian progress towards EU integration i.e. Kosova should stop the technical negotiations with Serbia immediately until the Russio/Serbian aggression will not stop.

I mean what leverage will have Kosova on Serbia and the 5 EU outlaws after that the technical negotiations have finished, when even today has almost zero influence????

But you Serbs are right in one thing, Kosova is perhaps independent but not fully sovereign state, this is the sad fact, and it seems our partners are not sensitive at all about this fact.

sj

pre 12 godina

Look at the proposal to cut back on expenditure. They say 200 billion per year for a decade but in the meantime they are going to borrow 1.4 per year for that same period. So you save 2 trillion but will borrow over 10 trillion – is there something wrong here or is it just me??

I can tell you this much even the Communists in China would never do that to their own people. The Us will continue to borrow until it can no longer do so and leave the bill to people like you.

(a New Day, 30 December 2011 19:32)

Now there are about 50,000 Serbs left in Kosovo and the northern are giving lots of headaches to the lovers of freedom and democracy – now how long do you think the west would put up with this if the Serbs had no backing? One day or two maybe???

The west does not care at all about Kosvoa, mate. It’s only interested in Camp Bondsteel and that is the reason its making Pristina negotiate with Belgrade.

it is not just that this is so obviously a cheap soviet (russian) political stunt. the whole trajectory of matry and co. is meant to continue to cover up serbian war crimes, which oops, never get mentioned here, at the UN. well yes, there is currently that trial ag. a small group of Jackals. but you know that every single such trial has come only with the greatest pressure from outside forces, and human rights advocates in serbia such as natasa, who are utterly marginalized and silenced in blgd's award-winning media, give me an f---ing break! eleven years plus after the fact, and that particular massacre was well documented a decade ago by American Radioworks, for anyone who is interested in real and horrifying war crimes.

i mean it is one thing to have such a media over there, and then quite another to crow on and on about all of the awards that they most assuredly do NOT deserve.

Collective catharsis anyone?

Nope, even most Serbs (except for the nationalistic extremists) are realistic enough to admit that Serbia with his politics was mostly responsible for the ex-YU wars. In fact, this alleged 'organ harvesting' is supposed to have happened AFTER the war in Kosovo, commited by criminal groups. And the distinction between criminal groups and 'freedom fighters' is not as clear as some people try to believe.

"Collective catharsis anyone?"

Some catharsis in Kosovo would be needed, too - and to get rid of the responsible persons for war crimes. In Serbia, there's no more Milosevic, Mladic. In Croatia, there's no more Tudjman and Gotovina. While in Kosovo, the people from the past are still in power and didn't face justice.

I work for a merchant Bank and they do not have depositors. I’m a tad lost here so how does the US make a profit? The entities do not put their money in US bonds to make profit for the US; there are certain guarantees the US has to give to ensure security for the money and any shortfall you make up with paying extra taxes.

well, Mr. Moor, is not a brilliant economist like you are so I'd not advice you to use him as advisor. All for 7.50 and if you think this is heaven then you’re in the right place and thank god I do not live there.

I can tell you this much even the Communists in China would never do that to their own people. The Us will continue to borrow until it can no longer do so and leave the bill to people like you.
Viva la democracy!!!
(sj, 31 December 2011 06:47)

Dear sj, as an expert in financial and economic matters, you should know already that the balance sheet has two sides; assets and liabilities. You only speak about liabilities, but you forget that US has assets, too. So, if you research a little bit the data at the Malaysian Merchant Bank where you work, you will find that the net debt that US has with the rest of the world is only about USD 2+ trillion.

However, that is not the whole story - it gets even better for the US. The US receives a higher interest rate from its assets with the rest of the world than the interest rate it pays on its liabilities with the rest of the world. For example, in 2011 Q3 the US paid interest and dividends to the rest of the world of USD 127 billion, but received interest and dividends from the rest of the world of USD 187 billion.

So, yes, you are correct - viva la democracy

KFOR did not have an issue to shoot at Albanians and kill them in 2004 (of course Albanians who were committing crimes - not against any person they saw on the street) acting even more decisively than the Serbian army did. Whether KFOR wants to take that risk or not is irrelevant - KFOR has a mandate to do it and is clearly doing it by intervening these days to ensure the freedom of movement of Kosovo Serbs.

Well dear, if you are lost, then read some finance books. I explained to you once.

It's all about America saving face, so they can continue their self-serving geo-politcical implementations in the Balkans, and nothing else. The West is quite aware or Mr. Thaci and his band of thieves, and the atrocities they committed - but keep in mind, the US in the past also supported Saddam Hussein, and the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden because they needed them. This is business as usual with the US State Dept. whores.

Collective catharsis anyone?

How many times can the Serbs cry wolf and expect to be taken seriously. These organ stealing accusations are so ridiculous Even B92 publishes stories on a rather frequent basis that are sensational in nature. The entire Serbian press lacks credibility as a result of making provocative headlines on a regular basis. This is something West Europeans find quite amateurish and silly.

(sj, 1 January 2012 06:59)

Well, a net income of about USD 200 billion PER YEAR is a significant amount dear, even for US. That’s close to the GDP of entire countries like Nigeria, Philippines, Pakistan, etc. Anyway, big or small, my point was that the US is making money from the rest of the world because the rate it pays on liabilities is lower than the rate it receives from assets. So, having the debt is not actually bad.

Just to make things easier for you to understand. It’s like the bank you work on. The bank borrows from depositors at, say, 1% and lends that money at, say, 4%, and makes a profit. That is exactly what US is doing with the rest of the world. As it’s not bad for your bank to do it, so it is for the US.
