"Yet most of the people I see and hear (oder folk) keep saying that Serbs hate eachother."

This is something I've learned to be true.

Spend 10 mins reading the archives of this site and you'll see that diaspora Serbs basically hate Serbs for not being Serb enough.

Danilo

"he would have spent 10 times more if you would live in Serbia"

But he doesn't live in Serbia.

He has no tax obligation to Serbia.

And, he's giving anyway.

If Serbs could somehow package their collective zavidnosti, Serbia would be the richest country in the world.

How about this: make something of yourself and you'll find that you have less interest in complaining about the success of others.

First of all Serbs are known for charity: We give more money then all other states and countries of our size, in comparable notes to the number of people we give more money to charity then americans, TEN TIMES MORE. Even when we have so little we give so much. Yet most of the people I see and hear (oder folk) keep saying that Serbs hate eachother. Maybe that use to be the case but the new generation has fixed that.

The nations spirit has never been stronger and now we, the Serbs, are back to making legends, among them is Novak Djokovic a tennis player millionare that has given so much money to Serbia,Japan, and many other lands and people stricken with unfortunate events.

Oh and the guy writing about Nole not paying taxes: Novak Djokovic owns a chain of restoraunts in Serbia plus a tennis tournament so the taxes are there, and we shoud be more concerned about you political party liders that profit(ed) from wars and crime.

Plus monte carlo is closer to the places he plays at, has better transport arangments thus he has more free time. Have in mind 11 out of 12 months are the season in tennis!

Go Nole :)

Moreover, Berk, probably YOU don't live in Serbia.

By your own reasoning are YOU a Serbian tax-evader just because you have some connection to Serbia but don't live in Serbia?

People want to complain so much about someone giving money back to the Serbian children. Such a shame. Why not put more effort into complaining/stopping the people who are actually stealing money from the citizens.

But, you've gotta give respect where it is due, and I don't see how one could reasonably spit on someone donating $100 000 to disadvantaged children.
(Danilo, 23 December 2011 12:27)

You say that I'm "spitting" on someone because I say the truth? Were is my assumption incorrect that he would have spent 10 times more if you would live in Serbia? You think that I should be impressed because somebody spents 1% of his winnings (his earnings from adds not counted) for charity? Actually he does not do this because of the charity itself but to wash his hands clean and for publicity reasons so that he can continue to live in his cushy Monaco.

I will explain how he is not.

Generally (citizens of the USA are the single exception), people have to pay taxes to the country where they are residing, not the country of their citizenship.

Djokovic lives in Monaco and is compliant to their tax regimen.

He's also compliant to Serbia, as he's a non-resident.

So, how is he a tax evader. You could be sued for libel if you used your real name :)

Always interesting to see Serbian right wingers to see defending a Serbian tax evader. The fact that nobody of them can bring even one sane argument for doing that (except for egoism) speaks volume. This kind of "patriotism" is real reason why Serbia is on the economic bottom of Europe. And no, don't worry, I have a wonderful life, especially now before Christmas, while still paying my (high) taxes.

Cheers!

But far more of his money would be going to Serbia if he lived there and not in the tax shelter of Monte Carlo. Even with Serbia's relatively low income tax rate of 10%, Serbia would have received $1,019,803 (out of his total of $11,019,803) in income taxes if it was his residence. So by giving around $100,000 per year to some cause in Serbia, he is only giving 1/10 of what he would be paying as a resident. So he's actually getting off cheap yet looking like a patriot by giving this donation.
(ida, 22 December 2011 18:48)

Another Albanian nincompoop. You only have to look at the most successful athletes in the world and they are all registered as living in places like Monte Carlo for tax purposes mate. I could write a list of names as long as you arm who live in Monte Carlo for the same reason.

That's true, Ida.

But what, in your mind, obliges him to live in Serbia? He's a rich man. He can live anywhere in the world that he wants. Why would he choose Serbia if he's got the whole world to choose from?

Thats the way Novak, show by example.

You are one of the few individuals in Serbia with real ability to make a difference in terms of investments, charity and good causes.
