Quite honestly, I'm glad that Serbia didn't get into the EU. I was praying that it would be a NO. I can't imagine what would happen to the country. Serbia fought for freedom during WW1 and 2. Now, joining the EU which is basically run by Germany, is like handing over the keys to the country. Personally, I don't feel that the EU as a whole gives a crap about Eastern Europe at all. I would rather like have an Eastern European Union (EEU) created rather join the trouble-makers in the EU. Let's face it, Germany, France and Britain only care about their own greed and hidden agendas. It's foolish to think otherwise.

Successful is it? I think you are another one with their head buried in the sand. Were you saying Long live the Soviet Union not too long ago?

Anyway, I think Nigel Farage hits the nail on the head. Check -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNXd0qbpln0

Zoran,

The EU is a very successful project and it has a bright future.

Croatia will join the EU on 1 July 2013. Montenegro and Macedonia are EU candidate states.

For Serbia there is no alternative to the EU.

Dragan,

The people of Croatia will vote YES in the EU referendum because they understand that it is important for their country to be a member state of the EU.

Long live the European Union!

I'm sure they can clearly see the difference between EU and the 'Warsaw Pact' which was indeed more like a dictatorship headed by Russia.

LOL! You know I speak to many many Eastern Europeans (the Warsaw type) and I can tell you that pretty much most of the older generation say times were better back in the communist days. They couldn't get everything back then but they had money to do pretty much what they wanted. Now they have everything available to them but no money.

As for the younger generation, I think they are finding out that the EU is not the land of milk and honey either. It looks the the EU is turning into the EUSSR and will likely end like it.

At the end of the day, it is all about timing. It is the East that is now emerging. Those that get in early will benefit and those that get in late will not. You know, like buy low and sell high? The cycles and patterns are pretty much the same everywhere, if you know where to look.

Personally, investing in the EU now doesn't seem like a wise move.

Interesting. I am waiting for Merkel/Van Rompuy to give the diktat from Brussels to cancel the referendum - you know, like they did with Papandreu in Greece, and then had him removed and replaced with an unelected banker who will follow the orders of the Fourth Reich with full obedience. That is what the EU is, an undemocratic German dictatorship over the rest of Europe.

"Just remember that many of the leading EU politicians grew up in a communist country, just like Merkel. I don't think they ever understood what democracy meant. That is why the EU is so much like a dictatorship these days."
(Zoran, 20 December 2011 12:09)

Especially the politicians that grew up in a former eastern European communist countries understand what it means to live under the Russian/Soviet yoke. Maybe they can honor democracy and freedom much more than people who were fortunate enough not having made this experience? And, unlike some other people, I'm sure they can clearly see the difference between EU and the 'Warsaw Pact' which was indeed more like a dictatorship headed by Russia.

LOL! We all know what EU referendums mean. If Croatia makes the wrong decision then other referendums will be held until the EU gets the result it wants.

What a shame. Croatia, which has attempted genocide against Serbs (twice), fully ethnically cleansed Serbs from Republika Srpska Krajina all under the guidance and assistance by the West and their government still has the decency to call a referendum.

Croatian society has the EU and the USA to thank for building their society on an ethnically cleansed state and yet they are voting on EU accession.

I guarantee you after all the double standards, demonizing and demoralizing the West has put Serbia through, if the country was asked to join the EU today..Tadic would under no circumstance even allow a referendum.

I pray the Croats say no though, I'm sure if it is no the referendum will take place again and again until its the 'right and democratic answer'...but I only ask God to be wrong.

Because if there's anything that could wake Serbia up from their EU induced coma its Croats saying NO after the West helped ethnically cleanse Croatia.

"We should not mislead people to believe that membership in the EU would solve all problems. Our membership is a great opportunity and whether we will use it successfully primarily depends on us, Josipović said."

Well said, not much more to add to this topic. And it's good that the people in Croatia get a chance to vote in a referendum about an EU membership - that's democracy
