Article is a bit misleading in that while Serbia is in the same group as France and others it is way down on the list below countries like Columbia, Paraguay etc.
Also it is noted that Russia was moved from a "hybrid regime" to a full authoritarian regime which pretty much means that democracy does not even exist in russia.

The Economist - what a rag of a magazine. It would rival Pravda in it hay day. If you take a good look at the so called democracies they include, naturally the US, and all all the other countires that suck up to the US.

Interestingly enough the self proclaimed promoter of democracy the US of A is 2/3 down the list of the index for full democracies and Russia the eco-political magnet for Serbia is so deep in the flawed bin that the light barely shines.

France is a defective democracy, according to the Economist Intellegence Unit?? I don't get it. If Serbia is in the same catagory as France, that's great.

"The report covers 165 states and two territories which makes almost the entire world population and majority of states. "

Is one of these 'territories' which are not a state Kosovo, by chance? :)

"Serbia is placed in a group of countries with defective democracy together with Cape Verde, Portugal, France, Slovenia, Italy, Greece and South Africa."

Serbia is in the same category as France and Portugal - interesting.

"while Egypt, Russia, Jordan, Morocco, Kuwait, Libya, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Belarus, China and the United Arab Emirates, among others, have totalitarian regimes."

The usual suspects, as expected. I wonder if Libya and Egypt will be upgraded next year.
