The Auztrians and the Germans together. Just like old times! Former UNSG Kurt Waldheim served as a nazi intelligence office in the balkans during world war two, a fact that came out when he was UNSG. Austria still hasn't come to terms with its atrocious past even 60 years after those events and their hands are more recently steeped in balkan blood along with their jerman brothers in championing openly the break up of the SFRY right from the get go. They still prefer to forget and sweep things under the carpet whilst demanding of others a public self-flagellation. They still haven't paid the price.

On a coach tour of Vienna a few years back, we passed through the old jewish quarter, something that the tour guide 'forgot' to mention...

Although it galls me to see Tadic kowtowing to these people, the old adage "keep your friends closer, but your enemies closer" holds true.

UNSC 1244 is international law that explicitly uses the Helsinki Act as a foundation, and states that Kosovo is a province of Serbia. Pristina can call itself whatever it wants in their fantasies, but the terms of 1244 govern. The audacity of Germany and Austria to demand that Serbia reject the Resolution is strong evidence that they have no respect for international law, nor any disposition to have quality relations with Serbia. In UNSC 1244, the entire UN Security Council spoke unanimously, and there is not a thing that Berlin can do about it. By simple definition, Pristina acts outside the law. If 1244 did not govern, then Merkel would never have gone to Belgrade to bribe and threaten the Serbs. Kosovo can't ever become a member of the UN or the EU, because it is not a country. Either Berlin or Vienna respect the rule of law or they don't. Kosovo has no choice but to negotiate an autonomous relationship with Serbia, and nothing else, and then all go into the EU as one. That is the only path to stability in the Balkans.

The last time I checked, A UN resolution can ONLY be dropped by the permenant members UN security council of which Germany or Austria are not. So their opinion doesn't matter.
