Mr. Ambassador, since UNSC 1244 governs this matter and is international law, and it states that Kosovo is a province of Serbia, then Serbia's obligation to have good relations with Kosovo is parallel to Germany's obligation to have good relations with Bavaria. Belgrade should therefore treat Kosovo the way Berlin treats Bavaria, your province. That can be agreed to.

Anyone remember that episode of The Simpsons when Bart imagines Lisa as the President of the U.S. and they come up with that clever plan of increasing taxes and calling it a "temporary refund adjustment"?

Yeah that's the same sort of thing here - "normalising relations" = recognition. No one's buying it Germany.

Mr Wolfman, just like Frau Merkel, you are very comfortable telling lies. I just had to write a post in which I could use the term "frau Merkel".

What a LIAR!! Why does the current Serbian Government want to join the European Union so badly, a group lead by liars and cheats? Do you really think Germany is looking out for Serbia's best interest? just look at Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland. Please you already got visa-free travel, just pursue free trade agreements with the EU and you will be a prosperous, free and sovereign nation and not Germany's slave.

T-to you anything Serbia does to protect it's national interests is nationalism. We are patriots, doing what any other country would do in our place. Your 90's double talk is dated and redundant. It applies to Kosovo albs and Croats, that's for sure.

To all the nationalists blogging on this site.
Ok, lets forget about the EU, UN, NATO,WTO, FAO, Maika Russia, China-aid and all other organisations because in your eyes they are all conspiring to destroy Serbia.
If you are really true nationalists then you reject them all. Serbia on its own or greater Serbia as you call it will, with your logic, survive and prosper without them, just like North Korea, Burma, Iran, Cuba and other stand-alone nations. All that these nations have achieved is to create poverty and deprivation for their people (except their leaders of course). Even the USSR and China have woken up to the fact that we need to reach out to our neighbours.
Hasn't Serbia had enough of this nationalistic rhetoric and isn't it time to look further than conspiracy theories. Kosovo doesn't need to be conceded and can still be part of Serbia but it is in everybody's interest that this region becomes autonomous and self governing, because only this solution will bring lasting peace and prosperity.

“We have never expected or asked for the Kosovo recognition but we do expect normalization of relations (with Kosovo) from Serbia,” he told reporters in Novi Sad.'

What a statement. Pure Orwellian double speak from this blockhead. You don't need to recognize, but you need to have normal relations with a fake state. This ambassador should have been kicked out of Serbia a long time ago. If it was me making the decisions, he and the US ambassador would be gone long ago. We don't need hostile countries spreading their BS being represented on our soil.

He is a diplomat - he does not need to say something to mean it.

Likewise, he does not have to mean something because he said it.

.... Even ....., he does not have to mean something just because he means it.

What is true, is that he has had to say something because he is having to counter something that he or his bosses did (or said) that was politically unpolitic.

That means that it is good that he said it, not necessarily because of what he said, but because there was something that made him have to say something.

Again, the EU (aka.Germany) wants to play semantics. We ALL know what the Germans want....to totally control Serbia and they believe that Serbs are either not intelligent enough or strong enough to resist their "carrots". Hopefully within weeks, the EU will not be able to afford their own carrots, and then perhaps they might come to the Serbian nation as "friends" within Europe and not as the almighty "blowhards" they think they are!!!

Sure they did, Ambassador Maas, Merkel just forgot to tell you. Can these EU talking heads please stop the BS, and get on the same train. Everyday some mixed stories about who demanded what, blah, blah, blah. Be a man Maas, and say that, "When Serbia follows our orders, we may offer them a worthless candidate status, because we will have so many more demands of them, like giving Vojvodina to the Hungarians and Austrians, that they will never join our mighty Union, but we will look good offering candidacy to them". I think that about sums it up.
