My grandfather was fighting for the royal yugoslav national army whilst his brother was taken by the partizans to fight for them.. pretty sure they were both shooting at the fascist Nazis... they both were fighting for Serbia against foreign occupation.

Just two farmers who knew nothing more than ploughing the fields.

When it comes to discussing the various factions in WWII then there is a lot to talk about. In my opinion, those Serbs who collaborated with the Nazis against their own royalty showed no loyalty to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, afterall the Nazis did invade the country and wanted to occupy the land, thus stripping Yugoslavia of its own sovereignty, also the Italian fascists had for some years before WWII plotted against the Royalty, and also helped set up the ustase who wanted to rid the land of Serbs.

Communist Serbs were those who were the first to sell their souls for a ridiculous ideology that they didn't understand, I would make a strong claim in saying that those who fought for the Partizans did so with their own personal benefit in mind, not only does that go against marxist/communist ideology but I am very sure that the vast majority of them had next to no knowledge of what Marx believed in, for example.

The Chetniks were the first to rise up against the Nazi invaders and fought against the partizans, thus showing complete loyalty to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Prince Pavle may have signed the pact with Hitler because he didn't want to make enemies, but the fact that Tito of all people labelled him, and others like Draza Mihailovic as traitors seems utterly hypocritical, yes Tito fought the Nazis, but he was also a huge traitor to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as he also wanted the Crown gone, the Royalty and Chetniks cannot have been traitors during the war because they were defending the Kingdom, not SFRJ that Tito created after the war. If anything Tito should be denounced, he wasn't a true communist anyway, just another person who used it for his own benefit and power, he was the traitor, along with Pavelic and the ustase, and other nazi collaborators.

You want to go back to the values of the kingdom, okay well i guess that means you should stop spitting on the idea of Yugoslavism as king peter was a staunch yugoslavist along with people like Garashin.

Love it when people dont know their history.

ps.No i am not a satanist,communist or whatever.

When a responsible non corrupt system is in place, Serbia should begin the process of de-Yugoslavization and de-Partizanization and should be a country based of the legacy of the independent Serbian state prior to WW1.
(Ari Gold, 15 December 2011 11:57)

What crap. Serbs and Yugoslavs should continue to recognise all those who fought against fascism in WW2. My grandfather fought in the Partizans to free Yugoslavia from fascism and monarchism. Any attempt to erase his and the legacy of those he fought with will be opposed. Who are you as an American or Israeli Jew to tell me who I can and cannot commemorate or mourn?

"de-Partizanization"?? , "de-Yugoslavization"??? what are you on about? )) Are you smoking some strange Moroccan tobacco?

So we should de-south slavify ourselves?what on earth are you talking about?,there is not much Yugoslavism to begin with.Yeah lets all in Yugoslavia today have aniother bellyfull of nationalism, thats gonna work.Either way were not going to have this issue in a century or two anyway. What you see in our region today is the same as it was with Germany had centuries ago,it was disunited by religion, empires and so on.same thing what we have today in the Balkans.Secondly, how is the monarchy going to solve problems?its gonna cost more and were gonna have numerous prince harry's on our hands probably in the ensuing decades.

Jelisaveta conducts herself and has more Royal dignity in her little finger than the other chap has in his whole body. With her it is more about others and the country.

I found that a direct democracy is the closest thing to provide for a stable political environment that allows for even representation. SANU would be a great institution to develop policy in many areas. Politicians in Switzerland are part time in parliment part time in the workforce, also helps keep it real. If major policy is to be approved every one in the country gets the say, harder to buy everyone off. Also it allows all forms of ideology to have a crack depending on their movements popularity, without having to de-stabilise and restart Serbia's progression in many areas.

Unlike Ljotic who was a fascist, Nedic was just trying to make the best of a bad situation.
(Danilo, 15 December 2011 12:36)

Serbs are not people that get down on their knees and bow before foreign empires...that is the job of our neighbors. It was this heroism and unwillingness to conform that sets Serbia apart from its neighbors. It is this conviction that foreign empires have for centuries tried to use against us to weaken us as much as possible by empowering the weak and fragile quislings.

Rousing speech, Ari. I can't see anything in there, though, that address any of the points I made.

btw, there are all kinds of Serbs. There's not some kind of "one true Serb". There were facist Serbs (Ljoticevi), Communist Serbs, Royalist Serbs, Serbs that vote for SRS, Serbs that vote for LDP.

They're all Serbs, Ari.

Danilo

Ari,

I don't think there are any admirers of Nedic.

But you know... if it weren't for Nedic, Germans would have installed Ustasa to run Serbia during the war. Like it or not, Nedic saved the lives of many Serbs. Unlike Ljotic who was a fascist, Nedic was just trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Ari Gold

Although I'm not in favor of bringing back the monarchy, this was a good move. Serbia should follow by the full rehabilitation of General Draza Mihajlovic and a public condemnation of Milan Nedic. Kind of hard though when Nedic's biggest admirers are in officer today.

When a responsible non corrupt system is in place, Serbia should begin the process of de-Yugoslavization and de-Partizanization and should be a country based of the legacy of the independent Serbian state prior to WW1.
