The LDP misses the point. The EU had promissed candidate status if all all extraditions to The Hague had been done. They came back on that promise. That means they cannot be trusted to keep future promises. Serbia shouldn't give up the European dream but it is clear that it should work on alternatives too. Turkey has shown that it is very well possible to be a successful country without EU membership.

Kosovo has actually very little to do with this. There are many more checkpoints along the road towards EU membership and the EU could have used these for additional demands regarding Kosovo.

In my opinion the real reason is that the EU is at the moment in crisis mode and not very eager to adopt yet another poor and corrupt country. Once the crisis is over they will probably become more engaging again - but many expect the crisis to last for a long time.

-Dragan, Your claim that Čedomir Jovanović is a western paid traitor is based on what exactly? Do you have proof or are these allegations a figment of your imagination? I don't know who you are supporting but at least Čedomir speaks his mind and dares show his face. I suggest that in the future you should be careful about making statements without substance because slander and defamation of character is a malicious act which is open to prosecution. But since you're not showing your face I am sure you won't have to worry about that, for now.(T, 14 December 2011 14:11)

Thank you. can you imagine, the "patriots" here are bragging and laughing that cedi needs 24/7 armed protection, in "democratic" serbia. that's something to brag about?! this is what i mean, what we (dissidents to this site)have been discussing for some time. if they do not like you, if you refuse to play their game (kosovo, kosovo, kosovo!!!) then you just deserve to be wiped out, not to live. this is no exaggeration; does anyone here recall what happened to zoran djindjic?? in supposedly post-milosevic serbia? and how many times cedi's life has been threatened, how many attempts have been made? and against his family members?? and ppl here laugh at it, brag about it... sick.

I love reading their english-language articles... yes, of course i wish they were better and even more inclusive, but they are really very good, considering... also i understand the same of e-novine, though the last i looked there was no engl-speaking section. i strongly advise all who are so tired of the monotonous "patriot" pov -- which we've been hearing like a broken record since the late 80s,just alter the details and names ever so slightly -- to explore some alternative, progressive sites...

as for cedi, keep it up, and keep safe. never give in, never give up. serbia needs to have some conscience, after all.

Cedomir is not a traitor, he was never a patriot, nor even a nominal member of the Serbian nation. He cannot today nor ever again walk the streets of any Serbian village or town without a small army of well armed bodyguards. He is a son of Yugoslavia, the compatriot of the german/american educated elite in Serbia. He is a shadow.

(Reality Check!, 14 December 2011 15:51)

No, I am not Kapetan Dragan (his real name is Dragan Vasiljkovic), but he was a very brave man and a very professional soldier. Unfortunately, because he did not want to cooperate with NATO war criminals he is now in the bad books and I believe they are trying to get him extradited to Croatia for a 'fair trial'. A fair trial, in Croatia, that is the joke of the century...lol. Kind of like getting a fair trial in WWII Germany.

In most civilized countries, all positions are open to debate and inclusion into the public discourse. There's nothing inherent with any of the positions that you bring up that should be somehow taboo. While not supported by the majority, it's healthy in any society to debate all issues.

Most people can do this without accusations of treason.

That's the thing about national identity. It's not defined by any one person/group/idea and is not something that's forever unchangeable either.

Everything should be talked about in a civil manner.

Jovanovic wants to recognize Kosovo, which goes against the Serbian constitution and even against UN Resolution 1244, which confirm that Kosovo is Serbia. That alone makes him a traitor. On top of that, he also wants to break off ties with Republika Srpska, and join NATO (an organization of war criminals who illegaly attacked Serbia). He has never worked an honest day in his life, and can somehow afford a palatial house, nice SUV's and 24/7 bodyguard protection. It does not take a genius to figure out who is financing him (outside powers who work against Serbia), and that he is the leader of the fifth column inside of Serbia.
Your accusation of libel on a blog like this is laughable. Please, if you want to have a serious debate, try to use your brain.

""Because of that, we are a country without the EU candidacy, which spent all loans and time, and a society with the highest rate of unemployment, inflation, pace of borrowing, with the most inefficient education, health care, pension and social system in Europe," Jovanović concluded."

By inneficient education he means 50% illiteracy rate. Then, there's one of the highest suicide rates and 3rd worst banking system in the world.

If I didn't know any better, I would think that Serbia is a progressive and prosperous country based on some comments I read on this forum.

@ Dragan or does he need 24/7 Security around him to be protected ..... Unfortunately there is such a big amount of people involved in Politics here that are only thinking about there own guza. They are in Politics to have a decent live for themselves and they don't give a lot about the rest of the Serbian people. No wonder they don't want to join the EU because that would mean that they cannot continue their own corruption and bussiness they are conducting to get better for samo themselves. And then you have that guy from the LDP who does share his opinion and has to fear for his life because of that ( I mean we all know how Mr. Djindic came to his end..... also because of the same reasons and those maffia maniacs from the underworld that are still having a say and seat in the Political scene)..... The Serbian people should not listen to these traitors who are obviously in the payroll of the Westerners.

Serbia should now elect "Nationalists" who can never be bought or cowed by the WEST.

I was expecting this western paid traitor to start blabbing his lies and propaganda, after he got his orders from Berlin and Washington. A guy who has to walk around Serbia with bodyguards 24/7, is not a guy you want to listen to. He obviously has to be protected from Serbian citizens because of his treason. He is neither free nor independent, and he definitely does not deserve the honour of calling himself a Serb.

Jovanic concluded correct but did not state why. This is exactly the problem in Serbia today. Most politicians are not looking for answers because they spend too much time criticizing each other or covering their backs.
Why do we have high unemployment but WHY?
We do have an inefficient education system, pension reform and health care. but WHY?
We need unity, a government that confronts these issues and does something about it.
