This is why the UK has a very good welfare system. Many people are better off on benefits than doing a part time job on minimum wage, not to mention all the bonuses and perks people get for being "unemployed" etc. When you're unemployed/ retired the state looks after you. But then compare the UK to Russia, the state pensioners are in Russia. Many pensioners can't ever afford to have a phone and are living on the equivalent of $45 per week which has to cover everything, rent, food, bills, clothes, toiletries ect. Thousands of Russian pensioners freeze to death because they can't afford heating, never mind central heating. Now what was United Russia's policy towards pensioners again? Oh wait they don't have one, because Putin/ Medvedev don't care about them; but they apparently care for Kosovo-Serbs. Then we can look at all the poor people across Russia. Did you know there were 2.85 million people in Russia living on less than $2 per day? What does the Russian state do for these people? Nothing.
(Ian, UK, 14 December 2011 11:31)

Those are lies fabricated by Western conspiracies against Russia. Russia is the future and the paradise on Earth. All you say above is a lie since it's not been confirmed by sj's Malaysian friend which we all know has never been wrong in regards to economic and financials news.

Exactly, that's why I did not except the glorious Russian nation to fall to the same level :)

The salient point here is :the UK welfare system” was good; past tense. I’ll ask you how good it is over the next 5 years as Government expenditure decreases – in fact in the next few years government has to lose up 1.30 million civil service jobs.

When was the last time you talked to anyone who lives in Russia? Actually during Putin’s term in office standard of living has increased in leaps and bounds including the quality of social services such as pensions. Are you aware that today Russian and Chinese tourist are less likely to overstay or remain in the west illegally? Are you aware that Australian authorities have a greater concern for UK visitors overstaying or remaining illegally in that country than Chinese?

“Thousands of Russian pensioners freeze to death because they can't afford heating” -

How many pensioners in the Uk die from diseases because they cant get immeadiate medical attention? How many die from the cold in winter? I admit the UK is far better than the US but still it has its problems. The west plays with figure and statistics such as Obama’s statement this morning about US losing 4500 troops in Iraq with 30,000 injured (visible injuries). In 2005 the US military issued a statement that 40,000 had visible injuries.

Russia has 150 million and one would expect to have poverty. The Us has a population of 300 million with something like 80 million living below the poverty line.

First time I hear that only Serbs are humans ! You'd expect such behaviour from the Albanians, but I'd never have expected a civilized country like Russia to provide humanitarian aid to somebody only if he/she is from a certain ethnicity !

So why has the US dumped billions into the Kosovo project when America's unemployment rate is near record highs? When Americans are losing their homes and everything they own.
(Steve B., 14 December 2011 02:26
First you overestimate exactly how much the US is "dumping into Kosovo" now. At the start of the Kosovo project as you call it the US had not been devastated financially by 2 political wars of astronomical cost. The better question would be why have the US spent hundreds of billions on Iraq and Afghanistan when in the end it is not going to make a difference and it is on a people that have never and will never even like Americans. At least the people of Kosovo show gratitude for the US efforts.
As far as today Kosovo is very low on the foreign aid scale of the world for the US. The money saved by halting all aid to Kosovo would not have even have afractional effect on the economy or lives in the US today.
There will always be poor people in America and there will always be someone who needs charity. A country cannot say ok we are going to make all our people wealthy before we think of anyone else.
To many in America it is felt that the welfare system in America has created its own problems in that people on welfare in the US live better than the working class in many, many other countries such as Serbia.
Me personally I would not fault Russia for humanitarian aid if there was a 1%chance it was actually meant as humanitarian and not policitcal aid.

Yes charity does start at home so how about the UK looking after its poor than trying to relive its past as a power. So far it looks like something in the order of 1.3 million civil service jobs are going out the window and there will be more to follow in the coming years.

If you think that the austerity measures are for only two or three years, you have been fooled. Its more like the next two decades and maybe more depends on how long the UK government wants to play rule Britannia.

Don’t you get it yet? The passports were a stunt to embarrass Belgrade and to send a message to the west to keep its hands to it self.

I agree, the US is a terrible country. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The US should be doing more to help their own people. But then again so should Russia, India etc.

BTW, humanitarian aid can also be a means of humilitaing someone.

Mr. Tadic is responsible for allowing EULEX to be deployed in Kosovo province in the first place. he "fooled" the Serbian people that EULEX is "status neutral" but the fact is it is not neutral and they (EULEX) served only the interest of the separatists in Pristina.

Nice job Mr. Tadic! you should not be elected again in office.

A bit off topic, but important. There are worrying signs of that NATO/KFOR is right now preparing a military take-over of north Kosovo to impose Pristina rule. Serbs should also prepare to give them a hot surprise in case NATO decides to make that move (which is totally out of NATO:s mandate).
(kufr, 13 December 2011 15:53)

Define takeover ! NATO is already in charge in Kosovo as mandated by Resolution 1244 which is strongly supported by Serbs and Albanians alike. What's to take ever ? Take over the house of somebody and put a NATO soldier to sleep there ?!

Remember the trucks with humanitarian aid from Russia at the beginning of the war? Russians were interviewed on TV as the trucks set off, saying that although they had nothing, they at least could send sugar. Then the Hungarians found weapons in the trucks at the border. No wonder it's taking a while to process the vehicles this time - they don't want it said they did a less thorough job than the Hungarians did.

This whole giving humanitarian aid is a publicity stunt in the first place. Anyway charity begins at home and there are plenty of Russians in need of humanitarian aid, when is the Kremlin going to assist these needy people? Or would they rather spend money on their military as usual?

I bet you Albanians must be embarrassed that you don't exercise any power over the North and that you are too scared to think about interfering with a Russian convoy in KosovA? Yet our citizens are turning back EULEX on a daily basis.

Why doesn't your big bad beloved Thaci say or do anything? I'll tell you why, because he's a pu***! No wonder you couldn't defeat the Turks, instead you eventually accepted their rule & even converted religion because you were jealous of our bravery.

Keep sitting on the fence guys, you're really showing how much you "own" the land.

Serbia must change its national policy, and distance itself from this vile Union. Serbs are hungry already, so give your middle finger to these tyrants (EU). Russia and China can certainly make up the difference in monetary aid that the West gives, for a few strategic allowances. How about a missile shield?

How many pensioners in the Uk die from diseases because they cant get immeadiate medical attention? How many die from the cold in winter? I admit the UK is far better than the US but still it has its problems. The west plays with figure and statistics such as Obama’s statement this morning about US losing 4500 troops in Iraq with 30,000 injured (visible injuries). In 2005 the US military issued a statement that 40,000 had visible injuries.

Russia has 150 million and one would expect to have poverty. The Us has a population of 300 million with something like 80 million living below the poverty line.

If you think that the austerity measures are for only two or three years, you have been fooled. Its more like the next two decades and maybe more depends on how long the UK government wants to play rule Britannia.

Nothing.
