Danilo,
You're right but things could be different. It takes commitment, will and investment. The investment part is easy. Commitment and will are unfortunately in short supply. It takes great leadership skills to bring about these disciplines. Kennedy said; "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country".
At the next elections we need someone to utter these words and stand behind the nation, someone who doesn't look for problems but who solves them.

"Serbia is the most centrally located country within Europe. Serbia is the hub that links east with west and north with south. "

This is a wacky myth that some Serbs love to perpetuate.

Serbia's not on any kind of useful "crossroads" in this day and age. Its rail infrastructure is risible. It roads aren't great. Its certainly no air transport hub (BG airport isn't even in the top 100 busiest airports, Bari, population 300k, being 100th).

Serbia's "centrality" is practically nonexistent.

Serbia's certainly not any kind of "bridge between east and west"

Mr.Tadic doesn’t Italian pretend something for Roman ruins in Kosova. I’m disappointed that a politician like you is speaking for the cradle of Serbia of 13th century. Too many water has passed since that time. Do you think that you can impress Italian with such story? They have archive older than you, 2000 years before. They know the story of Kosova better than you and us.
(dori tirana, 13 December 2011 16:15)

Modern dynamics is also very important. In the memory if living generation Serbian population declined from 1/3 to less than 10% with the perspective of ethnically pure Kosovo, people had to leave Kosovo under pressure of Albanian nationalists.

"Can you imagine some part of Italy declaring independence and some countries recognizing it. It would immediately cause internal instability. Kosovo is the cradle of our country and is very important for our identity, as it is where our medieval monasteries are located, so the issue naturally causes occasional quakes in Serbia," Tadić said.

Willi, you are using dated CNN and US propaganda 0f the late '90's - they have been proven wrong. Go to youtube and watch a documentary called "It started with a lie" - and by the way, it's a German documentary. Enjoy it, and then come back and revise your dated lies.

The Netherlands belongs to the world's 20 largest economies thanks largely to having achieved the status of the world's biggest producer and exporter of fresh vegetables, flowers and onions. The reason why The Netherlands is the world's number one in fresh produce is because they have continuously invested in education, technology and building infrastructure and continues to do so.
The demand for food in the world is rising, so are food prices.
Serbia has serious potential to be an important producer of fresh produce providing it invests in technology, education and infrastructure. Serbia could be as big and important to supplying the world with food as The Netherlands, providing employment to millions.
The next government of Serbia should be focusing on how to bring prosperity to this country and they can achieve this if all the political parties reject the constant need for squabbling and jousting between themselves and start focusing on building this country and bringing prosperity to its citizens. They don't need the EU, they just need commitment and will. If The Netherlands, such a tiny over-populated country, can do it why can't we.

This is just so juch BS again, and another attempt to distort history ince more. There were always, with a very few excemptions, more Albaniens living in what today is Kosovo than Serbs. So how can this be the so called 'cradle of the Sebia' if Serbs tried to rule over a majority of people who actually don't want to have anything to do with them? And the stupid agument about how Italy would react if a part of it would declare indepandance leaves out the fact that there was a war, where Serbs killed way over 10000 people in Kosovo, destroyed numerous town and villages, did ethnic cleansing, committed war crimes ..... This man is blinded, and the serbian public has to fully understand and realize what happened in the name of Serbia during the 90's, before any kind of european integration and a spirit of free thinking and acceptance of other ethnic groups can take place. Learn from the way Germany dealt with it's past. That is the only way for Serbia to become a free nation....

LOLLL, what?! Is this some kind of joke? For the last 8 days I have seen this statement chopped up in 8 different ways and used as the main headline in the media.

Is this really all you have left? You have nothing else to show for yourselves? 10 years on and this is really sad that you dangerous people have had the opportunity to rule this country for as long as you have. The same broken record being played over and over again because there is nothing else to say.

This is pathetic.

What's this obsession with the EU, like if Serbia became a member all it's ills would suddenly disappear.
In fact by joining the EU Serbia's headache will only increase because of the added responsibilities to conform to this, that and the other. The one thing that can be gained from EU membership is a certain degree of stability within the country and if it wasn't for these lingering issues with Kosovo Serbia would be stable, sound and just fine.
The EU says Serbia needs to solve its problems surrounding Kosovo itself. Well, in this case it doesn't need the EU.
The real truth is that it is the EU which needs Serbia.
Serbia is the most centrally located country within Europe. Serbia is the hub that links east with west and north with south.
Here follows one example, and there are many more, where Serbia could succeed, increase prosperity for its citizens and be of real importance to the world, without the need of being part of the EU or any other club.
Serbia is twice the size of The Netherlands yet with half the population.
