kosovo je srbija brate is a sarcastic joke, but that is what the right wingers chant and spray paint on walls in serbia everywhere - like as if spraypainting and vandalizing property with kosovo je sbrija is going to change a damn thing.. maybe they should go spray paint in the other countries of the world if they want to archive something.. sorry but only unity can save the serbs might have worked in the midevil days when we used to ride horseback, but today where money makes the world go round you need some really influencial partners ;)

"Moreover, to revel in the idea that any other nation or indeed human being should strive towards suicide also demonstrates seriously limited emotional ability."

I hope nobody took it seriously that the Russian rate should be reached. And of course the suicide rate doesn't correlate with being rich. It depends mostly on the vision and the surrounding (friends/family), as you said, and it depends on stability of circumstances.

But still I wonder why the usual suspects here didn't blame the WEST and the EU for a raising suicide rate in Serbia ;)

Strange you reduce happiness to money, politics and the economy, this is specific to people who cannot find joy in any other fine things in life (e.g. beauty, art and the whole world of ideas). However your assessment seems flawed since if you review the list of countries, you will see Switzerland and Sweden way before much poorer countries and indeed before (your much hated) Russia. Suicide appears to be related to a whole range of problems with emotional balance versus personal values and vision on life. To reduce all that to economic prosperity suggests a somewhat limited intellectual ability.

Moreover, to revel in the idea that any other nation or indeed human being should strive towards suicide also demonstrates seriously limited emotional ability. It may be good for you to seek professional advice...

Please do not commit suicide, but you are very wrong. You are only saying it because you want to believe it, like some cheap b movie that positive thinking will make a roasted chicken fly to your mouth.

according to the right fielders... i mean wingers this is flawed. people commit suicide because of kosovo as that is the most important issue in serbia... not poor living conditions.. who cares about that.. kosovo je srbija brate!

Still a lot to to for Serbia to reach the rate of the big brother Russia (currently rank #6). You know, Russia, the country, where all people are happy to live under Tzar Putin in a prosperous economy.

Just goes to show that, at the end of the day, we all have our own personal demons to deal with, and helping each other out with a regular smile and some friendliness is never going to be a bad thing, and might just save someone's life. :)

Depressing statistic... I read once that Serbia had the highest per capita suicide rate for elderly people in the world. That was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure as to whether it's improved or not, but going by this article it, unfortunately, doesn't seem very likely.

I, myself, have known people who've taken their own lives and the amount of turmoil and grief it causes to people around them is incredible, probably much greater than if the person died of natural causes or as a result of an accident. It's even sadder when it happens to people who seem relatively normal and happy - I remember a bloke I went to school with who was relatively quiet, but nonetheless happy with himself, talkative and friendly, who took his own life only a few days after we set off for the holidays. Was really awkward and, downright, confusing to understand, and the turmoil his family must have gone through would have been tremendous.

Just goes to show that, at the end of the day, we all have our own personal demons to deal with, and helping each other out with a regular smile and some friendliness is never going to be a bad thing, and might just save someone's life. :)
