@ Leonidas,

are you sure that's the whole story? Can you tell us how it started?

If you want to know the whole story you've got to ask Henry Kissinger, the Greek junta the US installed in Greece, the Turkish Generals and the British who devised the Zurich treaty.

GullyBully might have had a leg to stand on over these comments if his own country didn't have 28 journalists in prison. Yet again, this is merely for domestic consumption whilst Turkey fails to invest in infrastructure and people in its deeply poor interior. Hasn't he got the message? No more joining the EU simply on promises to reform once you are in.

Calif Gul and Mullah Erdogan are championing the rights of the Libyan and Syrian rebels yet they continue with the military occupation of Cyprus since 1974, following a brutal invasion during which 200,000 Greeks – forming 80% of the population in the north – which were ethnically cleansed. Subsequently, Turkey has attempted to destroy anything resembling Greek and Christian culture in the north and imported 300,000 settlers from Anatolia to change the demographic character of the island and, effectively, annex the occupied territories to Turkey.

The same application is done to the Kurds.Erdogan has been on record saying to Kurds"We're all unified by Islam".So, when Erdogan's gambit failed to pay off, he threatened rebels they would “drown in their own blood”.Erdogan measures everything according to his Islamic attitude and if you are Islamist then you have his support.

I dont know where this moron gets off badmouthing the Greek Cypriots in Serbia who are great friends of the Serbian people. Although I am totally anti-EU, I still dont understand why Turkey should or would want to join the EU. I mean besides the the crippling economic crisis the only bit of Turkey actually on the European continent is the western part of Istanbul and the tiny bit of land that there is bordering Greece. Anti-Greek Cypriot comments are not welcome in Serbia, perhaps he should make his way home.

"Turkey was granted the EU candidate status in 1999 and it started its accession negotiations in 2005. The country has not made much progress in the EU integration process so far because it refuses to recognize the Republic of Cyprus, which joined the EU in 2004."

Turkey should stop behaviour like the ostrich with its head stuck in the sand and open its eyes wide to the obvious -- there are those inside the EU who don't want it as a member -- and I ain't talking only about Nicosia. EU biggies like Paris and Berlin had already publicly voiced this.

And this should be a lesson for Belgrade. Ankara actually got candidate status way back in 1999 and remained stuck in limbo since then ...... so as for possibly being granted that status in December -- what's the big deal????? Especially when Serbia is being asked give an arm and a leg for that "status", to be followed by cold storage a la Turkey?????
