So two wrongs make a right then? Interesting. And sad.

Roberto,

Where is your outrage at this execution? To be frank, you come across as a total tool and complete hypocrite. Everyone has a right to fair trial and not be summarily executed, even guys like Gadaffi. He escaped trial? have you seen the videos, 1st one shows him captured by rebels, wounded, but alive, second shows him dead with a fresh bullet in his head.

@somehow, it shouldn't surprise me to hear so much sympathy and "brotherhood" from the usual suspects here. Hey, if you love gadaffi, you'll really love present day iran, N korea, syria, belarus etc. Hint hint.

Now after months of NATO-led bombing campaigns and the destruction caused by the 'freedom-fighting-rebels' armed with U.S. military weaponry.

You are so right!! I remember seeing news reports with the rebels using all those AK-47's( U.S. made) RPGS(U.S. made) and Russian tanks(U.S. made). Do you think no one else sees news report from Libya and what weapons they have? Save time and just put "I hate America,NATO and anybody else that isnt like me".

He's finally gone, but how many had to die for us to see this moment of liberation. the story is always the same, just the names and details change.

i have absolutely no sympathy for him, he was an evil mass-murderer. but i have a great deal of sympathy for all who had to suffer and die to make this day possible. may they rest in peace.

While I'm no major Gaddafi supporter, lets look at the facts. Prior to this 'uprising', Libya was a country with immense infrastructure, free health care, and free education provided by the government. Now after months of NATO-led bombing campaigns and the destruction caused by the 'freedom-fighting-rebels' armed with U.S. military weaponry, Libya is a wasteland of rubble. Are the citizens of Libya better today than they were a year ago?

Sure they now have 'freedom' but perhaps in just a philosophical sense - in reality, individuals have little to no freedom...unless they're wielding a sub machine gun on top of their pile of junk.

Slaves in the Roman Empire were even better; they even had free housing and free food - their owner fed and housed them

Dude, if the Libyans are not asking that, there is no need for you to be more Libyan than the Libyans...

Leonidas

pre 12 godina

Had Gaddafi blown up a Greek plane your entire mentality and position would be the complete opposite because that is how hypocrites like you work. But because his victims were British, American, French, Chadian and Libyan you don't care and just like to criticise the west because Greeks weren't victimised. But had Gaddafi had killed a hand full of Greeks he'd be the worlds most evil man in the world according to you. You'd be the first to complain!

At least we will now witness the first elections in Libya in over 40 years, even if their democracy is only up to Russian standards. Better than nowt!

Yes you say that Libyans are no better now than they were a year ago, but where will Libya be in ten years time compared to a year ago; that is what is important.

I still remember you saying that is clear that Gaddafi has defeated NATO, how wrong were you. Yes Gaddafi's body may have been dragged through the streets but he got off easy, he deserved nothing more.
(Ian, UK, 20 October 2011 22:56)

On the contrary the hypocrites are the British politicians and their supporters like yourself. My jibe wasn't against the people who died in Lockberie but against the double-faced politicians who did sacrifice any principle and any morality in the pursuit of the black stuff called oil.Back in 2004 when war criminal Blair met Gaddafi in his tent he was eulogising Gaddafi for his successes against Al Qaeda and he proposed to him to fight terrorism together. At the same time Blair secured contracts for British oil companies worth £1 billion. So much for the Lockberie victims.

Now if you think that Libya will revert to democracy you're clearly deluded. Democracy needs traditions, culture and institutions to be implemented whereas Libya is a tribal society.Furthermore, what makes you think that Gaddafi's ex-ministers and the Islamists that make up the rebels council want Western style democracy? They've already said they want to establish a moderate Islamic country.Whether Libya remains a moderate Islamic country remains to be seen.

Now it's pretty clear the worst scenario for the West and its leaders would've been the arrest of Gaddafi. Wounded in both legs, and shot in the head, he couldn't have run away too far.So why killed?

Well had he been brought to trial, his close contacts with Western government leaders, banks and businesses would've have revealed the extent to which the people of Libya and the citizens of the West have been betrayed by their leaders - yet again - in pursuit of riches for the elites.Thousands of Libyans have been killed, or wounded. The majority will have been innocent victims caught on the wrong side of the fence.Simply Obama,Cameron and Sarkozy are not better than Gaddafi. At least Gaddafi had the balls and fought until the end and didn't take the easy option given to him and his family-exile.

I'll be the first to admit that Blair and Bush are war criminals. Ideally I'd of liked to have seen Gaddafi, Blair and Bush all tried for war crimes amongst other crimes. But because Blair and Bush have unfortunately got away scot free doesn't mean Gaddafi should too.

Aleks

Gadaffi was executed. The guy who found him said he told them 'not to shoot' and 'what have I done against you'. Hardly the words of a heavily injured man. It's much too early to know what kind, if any blowback, there will be. 10,000 SAMs are still missing. If even one airliner comes down over Europe it will turn very nasty for european politicians very quickly.

Belgium has recorded and 'exponential increase in asylum seekers from Albania' this last month (if I recall correctly, about 40 p/m to 240 p/m). One 22 y/o albanian man 'fell off' a eurostar high speed train when he was sent back to Belgian by British police yesterday, disrupting services for hours. How long is Belgium going to agree to Albania in Schengen if nothing changes?Albania still has a speedboat ban imposed by Brusels no? Albanians from Albanian can no longer .pretend to be fleeing persecution in Kosovo or claim to be 'Yugoslav'. Europe has got wise. As the police in any european country or just pop over to the EUROPOL website and inform yourself. There are no favors left and no fast track.

Nah I think you'll find that oil companies such as Shell and BP will get back to drilling in Libya now that this "temporary disruption" is now over.

I'm no warmonger, I think it is a shame that it ended in civil war. I think it would have been better if Gaddafi had listened to the will of his people and just stood down. But his stubbornness has ended in his death and I cannot say I'm sorry or saddened. The Civil War started because he refused to give up power.

Had Gaddafi blown up a Greek plane your entire mentality and position would be the complete opposite because that is how hypocrites like you work. (szemi, 20 October 2011 18:37)

Kosovo passports aren't recognised by Greece. We don't have an embassy and without an embassy Albanians cannot get visas for Greece.Only last month the Greek foreign minister repeated again that the position of Greece regarding Kosovo will not change.

However, one Albanian practice that has been noticed recently by Greek immigration officers is that a lot of Asian illegal immigrants in Greece are carrying Albanian passports which gives them the right to move to Europe freely.I think some Albanian government officials are making some serious money.

Really??? You are very ignorant on pre-2011 relations with the Gadaffi regime.

What about Gaddafi praising the Lod Airport massacre in May 1972?

What about Libya burning down the US embassy in Tripoli in December 1979?

What about Gaddafi praising the assassination of Anwar Sadat in October 1981?

How about Libyan diplomats shooting 11 civilians and murdering police woman Yvonne Fletcher from inside the Libyan Embassy in London on the 17th April 1984?

What about Gaddafi supporting the Rome and Vienna airport attacks in December 1985?

How about Pan Am Flight 103 aka the Lockerbie bombing where the Gaddafi regime was responsible for the deaths of 270 civilians (43 Brits)?

How about the 1986 Berlin discotheque bombing where 229 people were injured and 3 were killed?

How about in 1986 when Libyan state television announced that Libya was training suicide squads to attack American and European interests?

How about Gaddafi's brother-in-law Abdullah Senussi bombing French aeroplane UTA Flight 772 in which 170 civilians lost their lives?

How about all the 'donations' the Gaddafi regime gave to the IRA? In one single shipment from Libya to the IRA there was 20 tonnes of weapons, including HMGs, 36 RPGs, 1000 detonators, 20 SAMs, Semtex, 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition and £2 million cash. And this is just ONE of the many shipments of arms Gadaffi sent to these terrorists, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of British civilians.

How about Gaddafi declaring a Jihad on Switzerland because of the Swiss ban on minarets?

How about Gaddafi's son claiming that he would "wipe Switzerland off the map" all because he was arrested for attacking and causing bodily harm to hotel staff in Switzerland?

How about the 35th G8 summit when Gaddafi publicly called for the dissolution of Switzerland, its territory to be divided among France, Italy and Germany?

I'm not going to even bother mentioning Israel.

You still think the West didn't have a problem with the Gaddafi regime until 2011?

Today we should remember all those who died as a result of Gaddafi.

I still remember you saying that is clear that Gaddafi has defeated NATO, how wrong were you. Yes Gaddafi's body may have been dragged through the streets but he got off easy, he deserved nothing more.

Leonidas

Had Gaddafi blown up a Greek plane your entire mentality and position would be the complete opposite because that is how hypocrites like you work. But because his victims were British, American, French, Chadian and Libyan you don't care and just like to criticise the west because Greeks weren't victimised. But had Gaddafi had killed a hand full of Greeks he'd be the worlds most evil man in the world according to you. You'd be the first to complain!

At least we will now witness the first elections in Libya in over 40 years, even if their democracy is only up to Russian standards. Better than nowt!
