icj-of couyrse it is. Anyone can legally DECLARE independence. I will declare independence and start my own country. No problem.
(Jeff, 15 October 2011 19:30)

Nobody said anyone can legally declare independence. If you declare independence, please let us know the country you live in and what the declaration says so we can assess whether (a) it is in accordance with the constitution of your current country, and/or (b) it is in accordance with international law.

If the place you live in is called Kosovo, your declaration's text is the same as Kosovo's and your declaration was dated 18 Feb 2008, then yes, you are OK with international law but still in violation of Serbia's constitution.

My point is that even KFOR, or as it should be better called NATO under a disguise, cannot do what you Albanians want them to do and that is use force to finish this off once and for all. KFOR making announcing deadlines is designed to put pressure on the Serbs, but it is also a stupid tactic because it makes KFOR look impotent when they constantly extend it.
(sj, 15 October 2011 00:00)

Yep, KFOR will not do anything. As far as KFOR is concerned, the Jarinje and Brnjak border crossings are open. True, good’s traffic from Serbia to Kosovo or vice versa cannot pass from there because of the barricades, but that’s not KFOR’s fault and in any case there are other border crossings the good’s traffic can pass from after it’s been inspected from Serbia and Kosovo customs. So, if N. Kosovo inhabitans are fine with the incovenience of more difficult movement, that's fine for KFOR, too.

I keep on telling you that it’s not really the Serbs, but another force that is brewing this pot of tea and the United States of Halfwits has to grin and bear it. Your support is far too busy trying to ignite a war with Iran, which would be nice to see as this one would have no end to it LOL, LOL. You should hear Robert Baer’s interview on this subject – absolutely riveting.
(sj, 15 October 2011 00:00)

I don’t think the war is nice; why would you be happy to see hundreds of thousands of Iranians die ?! I don’t like the policies of Iran, but that does not mean I’d think it’s nice to see its population killed. I did not like the policies of Milosevic, but that does not mean that I thought it was nice to see Serbs being killed.

The US has already offered the Serbs complete autonomy in the regions they occupy and that was done without conferring with any Albanians.
(sj, 15 October 2011 00:00)

Of course there is no need to confer with anybody because Kosovo’s Constitution offers that and Kosovo Constitution cannot change without K. Serbs’ consent. US had already conferred with Kosovo’s Constitution.

The Serbs don’t want autonomy in their own country and there is nothing that the US/EU/NATO/KFOR/EULEX/LUX SOAP POWDERS can do a thing about it.
(sj, 15 October 2011 00:00)

Of course nobody can do a thing about it; autonomy is a right that Serbs may or may not choose to exercise. Nobody, nowhere in the world, is forced to exercise a right – otherwise would no longer be a right, it will be an obligation. And there is no obligation in Kosovo’s Constitution for anybody to be autonomous. So again the UNMIK/US/EU/NATO/KFOR/EULEX/LUX SOAP POWDERS are following Kosovo's Constitution.

New day- semantics as usual. The spirit of the resolution clearly supports Serbia's territorial integrity, with kosovo in it. You can twist the words all you like, but 1244 speaks for itself.
(Jeff, 14 October 2011 20:29)

You may or may not be correct. But one thing is certain; Kosovo's UDI is in accordance with 1244

No I am not disappointed as I do not want to see one of my fellow Serbs scratched let alone hurt, but I can see that you are not very happy. My point is that even KFOR, or as it should be better called NATO under a disguise, cannot do what you Albanians want them to do and that is use force to finish this off once and for all. KFOR making announcing deadlines is designed to put pressure on the Serbs, but it is also a stupid tactic because it makes KFOR look impotent when they constantly extend it

KFOR now argues that they are working in line with UN Resolution 1244 but did this same resolution not clearly indicate (and command) that Kosovo was and is to remain a part of Yugoslavia / Serbia in its sovereignty? Talk about double standards!

(Slobodan Maric, 14 October 2011 09:05)

The answer to your question is a HUGE no. 1244 outlined the plan of removing all control over Kosovo while not upsetting current (1999) international bundaries UNTIL a final resolution of status of Kosovo. It was never predetermined what that status would be.

however, if the invitation was extended to go north and enjoy some Slivovica - then I'll be there.
(Meti, 13 October 2011 12:20)

I guess it's pretty serious, the Skenderbeg is, however can mean besides the known personality two things:

#1: knock-off of the Serbian Karadjordje steak. Size does matter and it certainly does resemble a certain body part.
#2: a fluid what does beat the best French equivalent easily and costing about 50 times less.

I am for both, except that the #2 never if I drive that day. And more than one of #1 a day is probably a suicide, the size is often gargantuan.

alban

pre 12 godina

Srboljub oh yeah true. the kosovar albanians had everything. this is the classical serbian theory. the croats had everything, the bosnians had evertyhign, it was the serbs who had nothing so they decided to fight all of them!!!

bellaciao

@Srboljub, @Alban

I mean, when will you arrive in the year 1389 or do you want to go deeper back into history? Have a drink, rakija connecting people! And then try to realize that it is impossible to impose a political system against the declared will of the overwhelming majority of people. It was impossible for Slobo, it is unacceptable when "the Snake" is trying to do it in the North.

Srboljub

pre 12 godina

alban-historical revisionism as usual. The kosovo Albanians had everything, were treated better than anybody else and produced nothing. Only when the KLA started ambushing JNA patrols and killing and intimidating did things change, and then not much.

alban

This is brilliant Daniel. Prishtina is apparently exercising Milosevic like policies in the North...in a territory where its authority does not run. Even the biggest of dimwits can see the oxymoron here. The Serbian army sure as hell behaved like invaders. Who knows how it might all have panned out had they treated their citizens with a bit more humanity. Maybe the Albanians might not have rebelled

Slobodan Maric

pre 12 godina

The world is still coming to terms with the fact that not all European nations, like Serbia very much is as it stands in the heart of Europe, dance to the music played in Brussels or other EU Capitals.

Yes, we Serbs are hard headed! Yes, we are a pain in the neck and Yes, we do fight tooth and nail for justice.

This is just one such case! May I remind you ungrateful bunch of WW2 Allies that it was Serbia who spilled her son’s blood for the fight against the tyranny of the Axis powers. The same powers that Albania had sworn to defend in their fight against the Serbian Orthodox race in Kosovo.

As for Germany!!! Well, there is a story indeed. Let's go back to 2004 when the Albanians went out on another one of their violent rampages and destroyed ever more Serbian properties, including a vast number of churches. I remember the valiant methods that the Germans used in defending the Serbian well being. In fact, I remember them standing around and watching the Albanians on the rampage whilst arguing that it was not their job to get involved.

KFOR now argues that they are working in line with UN Resolution 1244 but did this same resolution not clearly indicate (and command) that Kosovo was and is to remain a part of Yugoslavia / Serbia in its sovereignty? Talk about double standards!

We have never asked the Germans to be our serfs or to kill poor Albanians for us. We have only and always asked the world to take our very legal views into consideration before making decisions which could lead to another violent episode of killing in the Kosovo region for which we, the Serbs, will inevitably get the blame for!

The Germans will learn that if you come to the table as a friend you can take the last piece of bread from our table and we will bake you another loaf too but God help anyone who tries to screw us Serbs. Oh yes, the ultimate power of superior weapons and manpower that the KFOR has to throw at any Serb uprising will ultimately quash the “rebellion” but the overall damage will haunt the EU and the rest of the world for another two bloody decades – and all because the EU and the USA have made up their mind to bring the Serbs across the former Yugoslavia to heel.

Theft of land = illegality
(Steve B., 13 October 2011 16:46)

Absolutely correct... For example, when Serbs stole the land from X who was living in Kosovo Y years ago, that was a pure example of illegality.

I'm leaving it to you to give a name to the X (but please don't come back with the Illyrians fairtale) and a value to the Y. I'm fine with whatever you come up.

Yeah, kind of disappointing for you that they are exercising restraint instead of rushing in and slaughtering a few so that you can wave the ultranationalist banner claiming injustice. Now you will have to settle on a peaceful means to the end and it will just fade away and in 2 years no one is going to remember it.

Hint for the Serbs, next time you want to try and drum up international support for the injustices of the Serbs, it needs to be real.
The claims of inhumanity due to shutting ff electricity due to non payment did not work.
The claims of a humanitarian crisis due to the removal of illegal phone towers did not work.
The claims that instilling customs in the north will never work.

We know Daniel, that's why the Serb army left Kosova
(alban, 13 October 2011 13:18)
Although Serbs were not occupiers of Kosovo except in your mind, they had to leave because there was an overwhelming number of Albanians, many of whom wanted an independent state. Thus, Serbs were seen as occupiers and they were forced out, although it wouldn't have happened without Western intervention and that cannot be denied. Now, Albanians are inflicting Milosevic like controls over Serbs in the north and the Albanians will eventually leave. It is as inevitable as the sun rising tomorrow.

They can only deal with Serbs when they outnumber them 6 to 1 like in the enclaves south of the Ibar. When there are more than 5 Serbs in one location, you call the big dogs..Germans and Americans to solve your problems..because you are cowards and cannot deal with them on their own.

God willing this Occupy Wallstreet movement succeeds, Kosovo Albanians can kiss their project goodbye. Not because the protestors are pro Serbs or anything, but that America will stop funding projects that are of no benefit to their people.

(Ari Gold, 13 October 2011 11:01)

For those that were friezed in the past 20 years:

Kosova faced Serbs in 1996-99 when the proportion was:

12 million well armed Serbs with tanks and warplanes and heavy artillery

against

2 million Kosova were only a tinny minority had some rusted Kalashnikov.

Another news: the Serbia's greatest "enemies" impose heavy limits to Kosova's defense capacities with limiting 2,300 lightly armed KSF and 6,000 police forces.

SO today you have your great and brave warriors of north (read MUP and other Serbian security apparatus there) that go in panics when ROSU gose even close to them even in 20km distance. Just for your record:

not ROSU but the entire Kosova's police has only 2 armored vehicles.

Yes you are right. Unfortunately Kosova is not truly independent as if it was it would have solved the issue of the north just as Croatia did. It will create serious defense capacities and solve this in 48 hours.

Ari Gold

pre 12 godina

If Kosovo was truly independent, then Albanians could close routes themselves. They could on their own, deal with the issue of the "rebellious Serbs in the North". Except they cannot.

This would mean that the only thing that is funding the Albanians would disappear and they would have no one but the Serbs to look at.

You may or may not be correct. But one thing is certain; Kosovo's UDI is in accordance with 1244

So again the UNMIK/US/EU/NATO/KFOR/EULEX/LUX SOAP POWDERS are following Kosovo's Constitution.

icj-of couyrse it is.
