This requires a more detailed answer than I have posted. These protestors are from all walks of life; some are already suffering from the terrible downturn in the US economy while others are intelligent enough to read the writing on the wall that sooner or later its going to catch up with them as well and others are purely trying to do the right thing and bring back the US to what it stood for the last 200 years or so. As the US economy gets worse the numbers on the street will rise proportionally.

What you have in the US is media, wealthy and politicians who are supposed to represent the people. Once it was considered an honour to enter the public service and it attracked the very bright – this began with the founding fathers; a group of people who wrote a document that was light years ahead of its time.

Today only the dim and not so bright go into politics because the smart run corporations and they can buy politicians by the dozen. George Soros is one of those smart people. You see the wealthy control the media through ownership and they tell you that you have a free press when in fact it’s all crap because they only feed you what they want you to hear and see. These demonstrations are painted as run by “pinkos” or socialists trying to change US democracy and that is the reason they are seen as leftists – anyone who tries to alter the status quo is painted as a leftists or communist. Look at how the US population has been brainwashed into believing that some form of universal healthcare is a socialist plot.

As demonstrations become more and more common the authorities will need to show that it’s the communists or boogy man that are stirring up trouble and police will turn violent against the demonstrators no matter how peaceful they maybe.

Soros like many of his peers are sharks out for a fast buck at anyone’s expense while as a front he paints himself as a philanthropist (and he does give out money to charities). Soros has a very dubious career as he has worked with the east as well as the west in search of the mighty dollar. My main dislike of the man is because he and others like him manipulate governments in countries through the democratic process.
His foundation promotes so called democracy and donates large sums of money to local politicians who are prepared to peddle his policies and with a friendly media these politicians are elected to office. When one is found out that he is not looking after the people’s interests he is replaced by another just as bad or worse. People lose faith and refuse to vote which is to the advantage to people like Soros as it keeps governments in power that are friendly to him.

You just have to look at the US system and the lengths they go to keep the status quo. During Bill Clinton’s time there was a huge loss of faith in the political parties and who should spring out of the woodwork? Ross Perot; a billionaire trying to look after the welfare of the people; yeah and pigs will fly too. Perot stopped the bleeding from two parties, much like what is happening now with the Tea Party.

The vultures have not finished feeding so the Americans can demonstrate all they like. This has gone beyond helping the situation with demonstrations – this should have been done in 2004 not 2011.

“the fact is that the US still sets the agenda and influences the planet in many respects that we are all familiar with:

That is what your media tells you as they don’t ever mention any set backs. Well if it sets the agenda why don’t they remove Assad in Syria? Even as far as Australia the western BS is peddled to the point that failings of the US are rarely mentioned by the free press. But as it set the agenda surely its taking a long time for it to be the master of all it sees especially Kosovo?

The Americans have been conditioned to see these demonstrators as “pinkos” or socialist. Soros is only interested in Soros and how he and his ilk can control the counties and the vehicle is so called democracy.

(JohnC., 9 October 2011 13:46)

When Wikipedia catches up with the reality in China I’m sure you will not mention this subject again. There are over 1 billion Chinese and to have a middle class of 350 million is very modest to say the least. It would be another thing if I was saying that China has over 1 billion middle class. Ask someone from Australia who is buying their companies, real estate etc. You might also have a look at the number of Chinese tourists visiting Australia. I very strongly encourage you to leave your shores and visit this country and see for your self.

“China can only exist when it grows” – what a silly statement. This is the very foundation of western prosperity.

“…Take the US Dollar. If Washington would declare it null and viod from one day to another one (which they easily can) China would sit on 3 Trillion pieces of toilet paper while the US would have zero debts.”

This tells me that you have no idea what you are talking about nor do you have any idea about finance or economics to boot.

Let me say this, when the Communist government collapsed in Russia one of the first things that the Russians had to do is to pay for compensation for assets seizes in 1918 to foreign companies – that is 70 years after the fact Russia had to pay money. Now would you like to rethink your statement? Also China now owns over 1/3 of the US, no that not paper money but real assets.

The IMF, World Bank and everyone western financial intuitions claim that the BRIC countries are the next powers.

I like this though “Kosovo placing an economic embargo on Serbia – this is like Chad placing the same on the US LOL. Where stamps are concerned why even the town my parents came from have their own stamps, Kragujevac.

Look at Scotland, it has its own stamps; look at Wales, it has stamps – do you want me to talk about the US where every State has their own stamps. How many times do I have to tell you that Kosovo is going now where but if you like leave you address on this site and I’ll send you stamps to prove Kosovo is independent. Its easy to make them.

Well I agree with the sentiments of most posters here. I am glad that US citizens are finally standing up to be counted to oppose the corrupt elite.

However, my opinion has little to do with getting my own back on the US, or wanting to see the country collapse. What I seek is a change in the global system of values that basically places profit above people. Ok lets not get carried away it won't happen now, due to these protests, but when change does come this protest will be remembered and perhaps called the beginning of some form of awakening.

And its vital that this is going on in the US because for all the true talk about US decline, the fact is that the US still sets the agenda and influences the planet in many respects that we are all familiar with.

sj I do have a question for you (or anybody else including even wtf) and it is a genuine one. In the US context these protests are generally seen as left leaning, many from the libetarian / right are suggesting that George Soros is behind it, that those people are a bunch of hippies and unemployed layabouts looking for benefits. Because you mentioned a deep dislike of Soros sj I'm wondering what you think of this rightist / libetarian view and their allegations.

SJ, I completely understand you try to grasp last straw for you failed and never-will-be successful wish that Kosovo will ever be Serbian again. In fact, you whole brabble circles around it and it is therefore only logical to catagolize this in that area. Nevertheless, you completely failed the topic when you claim that there are 310 Mio middle class Chinese. When you claim that then it cannot be more obvious how much you lie. There are about 60-80 Mio Chinese which live a similar life like we do in the West. But this is nothing compared to the rest of the country, which makes up 1300 Mio people.

China can only exist when it grows. This is so simple. China, however, cannot grow with it's own middle class. It is simply to small and they are not much different in consumer habit. The need the poor worker class in China the same way, the West needs it for its plastic toys. There is symbiosis between those two factions and if one crumbles, it will definitely take the one with it. Take the US Dollar. If Washington would declare it null and viod from one day to another one (which they easily can) China would sit on 3 Trillion pieces of toilet paper while the US would have zero debts. Of course, it is not that easy since this would also mean strong impact on its own people, but be assured that the US would rather do that then to make subject to a foreign power. China on the other hand will always try to keep that balance because it means growth. The US will do the same, because it mean growth either. The Wallstreet protest which I unconditionally support are on a different page and reflect the very same problem what China and the rest faces. Why do you think China suppresses freedom of speech so much? Not only to keep the government in power but also suppress their Wallstreet demonstraters which would be by the 100 of Mio on the street once that pressure would be gone. China cannot be different and needs to be that way. This is the only thing which keeps the country in tact and at one piece. Same with Russia. Moscow failed to diversify its economy. We could see that and it is unlikely that it will change because unlike the other BRIC states, Russia is in terms of population size a small country. Some companies settled there, but it won't be ever enough.

So spare you breath. We know your wishes, but those wishes are as stupid as to think that sewing on the branch you sit (in this case Europe) would help you. It does not. Serbia is a small country, encircled by NATO and EU. We saw what happened when Kosovo put an embargo on Serbia. You were losing millions. That is why you gave in with no new conditions even accepting the very same stamp which you refused to accept 3 years before. In this was only Kosovo..

Cheers!

Many have quoted the word globalization but few have a real understanding of what it means. The west explains it as “if we are doomed then all will disappear down that same rabbit hole”. That is not true; yes a meltdown of what is to come will be felt everywhere except in countries that have subsistence or barter economies, but for the most there will be life after the meltdown.
The west has been in a depression since 2007. In fact it skipped a recession and went straight into a depression. No one in the west will use the D word for fear of making a crises even worse. You talk about “BRIC cannot sell a single piece of anything” and that is the heart of the problem because 80% of the US economy is all about going to the mall and buying something and after numerous attempts to kick start their economy they have come to an end with no success. The US borrows 1 trillion every year to maintain the current status, but can you imagine what life will be like if the US had to stop borrowing that trillion dollars?
The BRIC countries have about 2.5 billion people so consumers are not that much of a problem and with these economies going at a much faster speed for them this depression is not even being felt as I post this comment. Ask any Australian if their economy is suffering and while you at that ask them who do they have to thank for that? Not the EU or US but China.
As far as Russia goes, the Chinese are after all the oil they can get and if they don’t sell to the west it will be China and India. The Russians are also copying the Chinese industrial model and opening up industry through foreign investment. I can tell you that Mitsubishi closed a plant in Australia and opened two in Russia.
Russia is not just an economy based on oil or gas but it also has vast deposits of minerals. The Russians are about to complete construction of a pipeline to China to deliver oil and gas. India wants the same to meet it industrialization plans. These countries have populations large enough to sustain their economies. Eg in the 1990s China exported nearly 50% of its production to the US – today its about 15%. China has a middle class of about 350 million. China’s production is now going to meet consumer demands from the 350 million middle class.
Serbia is a country of 10 million people with a struggling economy to match and as it is situated in Europe of course they are going to feel any downturn. I can say that it would be better to tie your fortunes with BRIC countries rather than the EU and US.
Sadly you have no concept of what is staring you in the face, but enjoy it while it lasts and as far as riots or mass upheavals are concerned I’d put my money on the US and not China as China has a reserve of 3 trillion and this does not take into account the 800 billion it has in US bonds while the US has a 15 trillion debt.

(Leonidas, 8 October 2011 17:29)
I saw one of the oragnisers for the demonstrations interviewed and he talked about how bad things were in the US. He pointed out to a couple that were with him, both were teachers and both were unemployed as they had lost their jobs recently and both had a huge education bill to pay off. They were dismissed because their state was reducing its costs and rationalizing the education system.
Ordinary people were saying that life has become so hard that making ends meet is huge problem. The people interviewed were not some dumb yokels but well educated and they were laying the blame at the feet of corporations.
When you drive down a street and you see these nice houses with well maintained lawns and gardens you would never thing anything is wrong, but it’s what is going on in those houses that is the difference. You may have neighbors who are on the brink of bankruptcy or the money has run out and no job, but they have not told anyone due to pride .They maybe just scraping to keep the house but they can only afford one meal a day.
I started work in 1974 with an accounting firm that specialized in bankruptcy matters and I saw plenty at the start of my career. I certainly hope the people do wake up otherwise hell is staring them in the face.

But it’s only the start as the west is going into a Greater Depression than anything seen in history.
(sj, 8 October 2011 14:15)

In a globalized world, the is hardly a local depression. When the West goes down then BRIC cannot sell a single piece of anything. They will/would follow depression in formation with the West, most likely even starting to crumble, because a depression starts with a recession. With a recession at hand, BRIC would feel the effects right away. In China, this would finally lead to mass riots, large scale uprisings, destruction in a measurable scale. The centralized country would finally fall apart, into many pieces. Similar will happen to Russia, since they rely completely on the oil price. We have already a good example. In the years 2008/09 when the oil price fell to 40 $ per barrel meant a economic contraction of Russia by more than 7 percent.

This is but a taste, so spare us with your "the-west-will-fall-so-that-we-can-live-out-our-nationalistic-wishes". Serbia will be among the first to feel the problems and crumbling BRIC will be the last one to help you out there.

I couldn't agree more with your comment.Unfortunately the people you're referring have made up their minds long ago and they still thing the West is their Eldorado. They cannot see that the West has run out of cures in dealing with the financial crisis.Their policy of cheap credit fuelled economic expansion in Europe and the US during the boom years. And now that the credit steroid has been removed, growth has stalled. Without growth, no nation is going to be able to service their debts.

The political system is broken too and the elected representatives have become shills for corporate interests, a bunch of greedy piss taking pillocks and mindless avatars for the Murdoch media bias. When the political system becomes enslaved to corporate interests that leads to fascism.

But people are starting to notice the nature of the future that is being slowly set before them. The logical future conclusion of neoliberalism is a corporate one-world fascist government. You don't have to be paranoid to see that and in order to get to their ends neoliberalism will be prepared to take us all to the slaughter house (through wars) and I am being serious.People must wake up and be prepared for what is in stock for them.

For all you Albanians read this article carefully and next time you want me to predict an economic outcome then here it is. But it’s only the start as the west is going into a Greater Depression than anything seen in history.
The IMF states that the EU is going into another recession early next year; no that is not true because it is only a continuation of the existing economic meltdown.
How many of you are aware that 400 Americans are collectively wealthier than 150 million fellow countrymen? How many are aware that the actions of a few have destroyed the middle class in the US?
The wealthy have become richer at the expense of the ordinary working guy and they write things like “If the movement continues to grow, it could influence next year’s presidential and congressional elections”.
It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better but the west will not survive as a power. Watch the civil unrest as things go from bad to worse.
And Tadic talks about Serbia’s only road to prosperity is the EU – Boris there is no money left in the wallet; why even the UK is starting to print money.

I think Michael Moore sums it up very well here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MuGc4nCE6g
The 'American Dream' has become an American nightmare for most, except the military industrial complex who hoards all the money, buys all the congressmen, and lobbies for more war and death around the globe.

It´s a matter of time something similar and possibly connected to protests in Greece ,Ireland etc, appears in the €U.

When €U is on fire and the Brussels politburo lies in tatters and rags a gayish voice from their very last supporter, the quisling dictator Tadic in humiliated Serbia will barely be heard: There is no alternative, €U is our future....

Cheers!
