@The Truth Chicago

I cannot help but think that even though you credit Serbian weapons, you just cannot help but mention how Croatian weapons are of good quality, I dont know maybe its because you and your anti-Serb views cant help but see that the Serbs have far superior engineering when it comes to weapons, how on earth can you say that Croatian weapons may be better? My own personal experience and testimonies of many people (mostly Croats) tell me that Serbian weapons are far better.

The fact is that Croatian weapons are no good, maybe thats why that even though there are approximately 100,000 of the Croatian HS VHS (poor FAMAS copy), there are infact about 142,000 Zastava M70s(Yugo AK) still in service also, they obviously cannot rely fully on their own product to fully get rid of the M70.

I just do not understand why you think that this new Montenigrin company will be producing such great quality that will match up to Zastava and attract more buyers, when those same buyers can hop over the border, by the weapons probably more cheaply and in greater numbers, as they are so well established. Zastava's income was at $156.44 million which was up from the year before. Lets be honest 'The Truth Chicago', your hope and belief in the Montenigrin weapons is rather deluded, just accept that the Serbian company Zastava Arms produces the best weapons in the region and they will continue to do so, Montenegro's new developments are no match for Zastava's long established expertise.

Except for the internal police force, who do they think will be buyers for these weapons? Its not exactly a market whithout competetion.... and the montenegrins are not known for making quality products. But sure, I do belive that they will win over the Austrian Glock in the world market ;-)

Anything's better then Austrian Weapons, Our Army uses the Styrs, which are worse then anything we previously used, Their akward shape makes it impossible to aim, not that you can fire more then 200m straight anyway. Looking forward to the New Kalashnikov though, maybe we'll be able to replace our Styrs

I have read some drivel in my time but this has to be the best so far.

“…the Sig-Sauer P226 …. Its considered the best pistol in the world. Its a personal favorite of mine. This is a Democracy. Montenegro can hire….”

Who declares this pistol to be the best in the world???? The west? They also declared the M16 to be the best assault rifle in the world and it turned out to be a piece of scrap metal that would not work in sandy environment such as in Iraq – Jessica Lynch comes to mind but I see that her original story about her M16 does not appear anywhere on the internet. But let me rely that to you – during an interview she stated that her rifle jammed and could not fire because it had sand in it.

During the early period of the Iraq invasion US troops refused to use superior weaponry because in the worlds of one infantry man, a sergeant, they were a heap of c***. The offiers were told to force their men to use only US weapons, but some were smart and kept quite others told even 3 star general to either go on missions with them or shut up because they did not know what they were talking about.

Another soldier said that they were surprised by the quality and durability of the AK47 “you can leave it in water overnight, then take it out and it fires without problems”. And this rifle was used by US soldiers in close quarter combat; again preferable to what the US military issued. That is why you do not have M16s anymore but the M4, which is a simple design much based on, wait for it, the AK47.

But I see that only “democratic countries” make superior weapons but if that is the case why is the US and NATO packing up with tail between their legs in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dear Illicit,

Montenegro has been in the West's pocket since 1997. They need small countries to act as third parties when exporting weapons to countries that have an arms embargo on them. Otherwise they have to use 'private' companies. Nothing illegal here at all. Of course small arms by far produce the greatest majority of casualties in conflicts, the US being one of the biggest exporters who refuse to sign up to UN treaties on the control of small weapons, who still export cluster bombs (now rebranded 'sensor fuzed weapons') and still give military aid to countries that use child soldiers, now for the second year running (see the link below).

Wow, many of you that have commented here are pretty ignorant. I know Serbian's are jealous of the progress that Montenegro has made since their independence and the overwhelming support that the international community gives them from China to America to Europe! They do have a long and honorable history of being true warriors and taking pride in their firearms. It would only make sense that they carry on a positive tradition by producing quality firearms. The former Yugoslavia did produce quality firearms, then with the breakup the factories were in Serbia so Serbia inhereted them. I wouldn't exactly take much credit for Serbia having been the original manufacturers. Those factories were in place long before the current Serbia under the country of Yugoslavia. Again, i'm not knocking the product, Serbia does make quality firearms. Croatia's firearms are actually very good and comparable if not better then the Serbian firearms. I disagree with the poster below about the Croatian stock being junk.

Montenegro is a tiny country, but with this in mind it makes for an ideal environment for making quality firearms. They are located on the sea so they will have cheaper shipping and export fee's which will keep the cost of the firearms down. They don't have to make mass amounts of weapons and instead they can focus on quality rather then quantity. This company will be purchasing their manufacturing equipment from European companies most likely which is where the top companies in the world purchase from like H&K, Sig-Sauer, Walther etc. A swiss is involved with this company as well which is positive. Switzerland is where the Sig-Sauer P226 was designed, but manufactured in Germany. Its considered the best pistol in the world. Its a personal favorite of mine. This is a Democracy. Montenegro can hire on a contract basis experienced and competent firearms designers that may have worked at H&K or Sig or Walther and have them produce some good designs. You can buy anything that you want in this world if you have the money and are willing to spend it. Just because it's in Montenegro doesn't mean that the company only has to hire Montenegrin designers. The firearms world is like any other business. You pay for what you get. I have a great feeling though that Montenegro will do what it takes to produce solid quality firearms and the world will take notice. Congratulations Montenegro!

God only knows why the Montenigrins have started to produce small arms. It is rather common knowledge that the Zastava Oruze (Zastava Arms) company in Kragujevac, Serbia, produces the best small arms certainly in the Balkans, but possibly even a lot better than many former Warsaw Pact states. The Croats managed to produce a decent pistol, the HS2000, but thats about it, I owned a PHP pistol which was the first Croatian made pistol, and it was awful, it fired a burst fire randomly despite the fact that there is no burst fire option. And the VHS rifle (FAMAS copy) is so poor that if one drops it on the floor it can brake completely, what awful durability.

My point is that if the Croats couldnt produce a great arsenal of weapons then the Montenigrins have no chance. If they had any sense they would continue to purchase weapons from Zastava and probably with good deals, not forgetting that Zastava produce very good small arms.
