Well the UK, US and Germany are not the ones living in Kosovo. Albanians have stated that they don't want to live with Serbs so why should Serbs have to live with Albanians if they don't want to? The West don't want to partition Kosovo for their own selfish reasons and not because its the best solution currently.

MikeC,

I must disagree with you once again. The only reason the West will not allow a partition of Kosova is because they feel Serbia should be punished for their aggression toward their neighbors during both Balkan wars, i.e. at the beginning and end of the 20th century, plain and simple. The Serbs are not the only ones with long memories.

There is no such race of people. People living there are either Albanian or Serbian and in minority cases Roma.
If you feel that you are Kosovar then why do you speak Albanian and fly the Albanian flag?
Inventing a whole race is ridiculous. Do you honestly believe that anyone actually thinks there is a race of people called Kosovars living in that region?
(Peggy, 15 September 2011 23:01)

Nobody has said that the Kosovars are a race. It'd be like saying Australians are a race. You're the one who has brought up race for some reason. 'Kosovar' is the Demonym for someone from Kosovo. Asking a Kosovar why they speak Albanian is a bit like asking an Australian why they speak English.

Sorry to disappoint you but Albanian, Serbian, Roma, are not races they are ethnic distinctions of the same race. In other words more alike than different.
As far as the term Kosovars, to the rest of the world Serbians were once recognized as Yugoslavians, it is only the local tribal mentality that separates these.
Do you think that a Serbian with a US passport will be considered Serbian anywhere else in the world, no they will be considered an American. They can teel everyone they are Serbian and the reaction will be OK and then that person will tell everyone the American wants to be called a Serbian.

At the rate you are going, you will alienate everyone with your collective lack of common sense and excessive stubbornness. Serbia's stubbornness throughout the years, along with its unilateral moves is actually working mighty fine for us.

Let's start with hundreds of violated cease-fires in Croatia and Bosnia, at the time when Britain, France, Italy, and many other countries were actually Serbian allies. Then the refusal of the Z4 plan in Croatia.

Serbia even went as far as quickly adopting a constitution that pre-determines the status of Kosovo (without allowing the residents of Kosovo to participate in the Referendum), thus violating UNRes 1244. This was the final straw that triggered the declaration of Independence in 2008.

Eventually, Serbia's excessive stubbornness will irritate the "internationals" to a point where KFOR will actually facilitate the unification of Kosovo with Albania.

Keep it up, it is working really well for us down in Kosovo.

"Brussels and Washington say that borders cannot be changed but they would come to terms with the idea if Priština and Belgrade reached an agreement"

This makes no sense. If borders cannot be changed, then there would be no independent dream state of Kosovo (which only exists by changing the borders of Serbia). So there's no good reason why the borders of Kosovo cannot be changed. The EU and USA only have to admit that their (good) idea and illusion of creating a multi-ethnic Kosovo has miserably failed because neither Serbs nor Albanians in Kosovo want it.

Interesting, as the above would be just what Serbia dreams of – which is to make sure that Kosovo fails as a state, just like Bosnia is currently failing due to Dayton.

Now that we are talking about "dreams", I was actually thinking more along the lines of a referendum, where the Kosovo residents say “Screw Ahtisaari Plan, and join Albania”. That gives Kosovo a UN representation, a NATO membership and no blessing is needed by Serbia, or its commie allies at the UNSC.

Again, Serbia refused to actively participate in the UN sponsored status dialogue process that took place in 2006/2007.

Inventing a whole race is ridiculous. Do you honestly believe that anyone actually thinks there is a race of people called Kosovars living in that region?"

It was the same analogy that was used during the Serb attempts to wipe Bosnia from the map. They were saying "there is no such thing as Bosnian/Bosniak - there's only Serbs and Muslims".

However, you are free to say whatever you like, but I am a proud Kosovar!

Mendo

Yes Mendo. If you read what I wrote I did say that partition was the best solution CURRENTLY :)

"However, it seems as if the UK, US and now Germany remain resolutely opposed - for whatever reason."

ICJ

Well the UK, US and Germany are not the ones living in Kosovo. Albanians have stated that they don't want to live with Serbs so why should Serbs have to live with Albanians if they don't want to? The West don't want to partition Kosovo for their own selfish reasons and not because its the best solution currently.
(MikeC, 15 September 2011 16:29)

Funny. So.. are there US Americans? Are the Australians? Is there an US American race, an Australian race? Ever heard of the term 'citizenship'?

(Analyst, 16 September 2011 08:01)

Ever heard of the term inforced 'citizenship' or 'citizenship' taken under pressure?

Oh, now the racists are coming up here. Funny. So.. are there US Americans? Are the Australians? Is there an US American race, an Australian race? Ever heard of the term 'citizenship'?

With all the mixture, the members of the 'Serbian race' are probably only a few 100,000 :)
