Good there will be no more EU by then. Serbia should not join the dictatorial federation called the EU dictated by Belgium, France and Germany. Judging by the events in Greece and how many countries openly apologized for recognizing Kosovo: Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Malta, Portugal I would not want to join that club because once you're in there's no leaving. Serbia is the only nation which remained free and resisted globalization, with the loss of Kosovo as the price.

Another 'kiss of death' from the mighty slovenes? Did they give back the german ambrust anti-tank missiles so kindly lent them to fight for their independence?

What Croatia Prime Minister is saying is nothing new to Belgrade. Many Serbs in Serbia supports Ratko Mladic. Albanians in Kosovo supports Ramush Haradinaj. There is no excuse for croatia's EU membership. I mean how far Croatia has come since the war. Croatia is closest to the EU membership  among the Balkan countries. Serbia has a problem with Kosovo, Kosovo has a problem with Serbia, Bosnia-H has internal problems, Albania is another story, Macedonia has problems with Greece. Croatia had problems with Slovenia, but it certainly solved. If you see the overall view of Croatia's work towards EU then they deserve EU membership soon.

I agree with you Bob, I think Croatia has still a long way to go i'm afraid. But then again Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are in why shouldn't the Croats? Here in the UK and I speak for myself were horrified that the Yugoslav conflicts happened in the first place and we all knew here who was stoking the fire. But then again my Serb friends tell me that at the height of the war Milosovic and Tudjman were talking on the phone whilst their armies were fighting one another. this just shows how silly it all was for what I ask?? I just hope now that the EU will lock all the Western Balkans into a more economically benefical Europe where ordinary people can enjoy better economic prospects, healthcare and education. Lets hope shall we?

I don't agree with you about Croatia being suitable for the EU.

I think it is still far too proud of its fascist past.

The behaviour of the Croat Prime Minister in her greeting of Croat war-criminal generals Gotovina and Markač is enough for me to say that Croatia should wait another six years before it is allowed to joint the EU - and do lots of self-flagilating penance in the meantime.

It is also suspicious that Germany supports a country like Croatia so strongly - the fascist association smells strongly.

The whole of the Balkan conflict could have been avoided if Germany had not been so strong in supporting Croatia's secession from Yugoslavia.

Croatia had graffiti on the walls about 'Serbs hanging from the willows' long before the conflict kicked-off.

Croatia is no innocent. Croatia should NOT be allowed in the EU yet - that would be a mistake.

Who really cares what this German agent thinks? In order to keep its independence, dignity and economic freedom, Serbia needs to stay out of this German controlled immoral club.

I don't think it's so bad for us to have to wait a whole decade to join the EU. It's only more time for us to develop our country and turn Serbia into a Balkans Switzerland, and by then we won't be interested in joining the EU. We'd only maintain strong trade ties similar to what Switzerland is doing right now. Hail independence! Say no to Berlin-Brussels servitude!

For those who live in the EU it is more of a nightmare than a dream.

Serbia has not had much luck in its history, but as things are shaping up it is possible that Serbia will escape the fallout from the EU’s (almost) inevitable collapse.

Long Live Serbia! To Hell with the EU!

" done enough " What has Serbia done to earn EU candidate status? That Belgrade is dreaming of Europe but also finances the extremists in the north of Kosovo at the same time. The only country in the Balkans who really earn joining the EU is Croatia. EU not to Kosovo, not to Serbia

How things can change ...and quickly .. until some months ago Serbian politicians were dreaming of a possible Eu entry in 2013 or 2014 at worst ...now 2019 is the new target..keep on dreaming...

This is good news, and sounds more realistic than anything I have seen so far. Anyone who thinks Serbia could gain membership sooner, is in fact dreaming. But, it would be nice to see Serbia get candidate status in the next year.
