The things Tadic is telling sound all very reasonable. Probably Merkel wanted to test the waters, though it should have been clear to everyone that the demands to give up Serbian institutions in northern Kosovo was a silly one.

I still see much more important things to be done for EULEX in the southern parts of Kosovo, the hotbed of crime. Priorities, you know.

Serbia is violating 1244 for 12 years now.

This systematic violation must be discussed in UN SC. It is due time. Or Serbia will respect fully 1244 or needs to face consequences- Kosova must be allowed to exercise her authority over her entire territory just as Serbia was allowed to do in Presheva valley in 2000.

Serbia will dismantle it as soon as they see that Frau Merkel wasn't joking when she said that Serbia would be excluded from the EU as long as they continue playing games. Milosevic tried to sweet-talk and threaten the West into giving him what he wanted and it turned out to be a miscalculation on his part. Serbia can not set the ground rules for EU membership or Euro-Atlantic integration - it has to comply with the rules that are set by member countries and Germany is a key member country of both the EU and NATO.

A solution of joint police and courts made up of local people, together with EULEX would be the most one could hope for. Wait a minute, that is Ahtisaari's plan. We keep going back to it. If only we could get Serbian politicians to present the Ahtisaari's plan provisions as their ideas, we would be done.

It is obvious that Serbia wants dhe devision of Kosovo as a "compromise" to accept Kosovo independence. In other words to use northern Kosovo as a barganing chip. 100 per cent Serbia should not and will not be allowed in the EU without recognising Kosovo independence as a whole. Tadic is right, if only in rhetoric. Serbia should think and endure long term, as they did with the 500 year Turk occupation. The EU, similar to other western institutions and nations will come and go. Serbia will remain. I vote for the status quo.
