I would rather see all this something like a party. You go to a party to feel good and to celebrate something. You are expecting to be friendly to everyone - but of course you will have most drinks with the people who speak your language. So I am rather looking at it from the positive point of view.

As for Poles... sadly, in last 400 years many things were screwed up by rulers of both countries. Much blood was spilled because of greed and treachery on both sides. Lately the Poles got the worse deal - simply because they got smaller and less powerful than they used to be in 1600-s. In 1600-s we got the spanking.

And yes, most of that Polish-Russian-Ukrainian bloody conflict was initially due rivalry of few men for few women and also due greed on both sides. Sounds familiar, isn't it?

With all due respect to this president and his country, but if it weren't for the EU, the European banks and Western companies who invested heavily on dilapidated and unproductive factories the Czech Republic and it's former partner Slovakia, they would not be anywhere close to where they are today: they both enjoy the privileges of medium/small sized economies by EU standards i.e. not by Soviet Standards, more over they also enjoy freedom of movement amongst many other perks.
They should also be thankful for their Habsburg heritage and historic links to the German-speaking nations... otherwise they could've ended up like most of their neighbours in the Balkans.
Countries like the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary etc need the EU more than they'd like to admit simply because they need to promote their national interest in this world which is increasingly being dominated by the economic powerhouses like China and India. I think this president is still living under the communist shadow and blighted by a romantic dear I say 19th century nationalist vision of ‘national sovereignty and independence’. For nations such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia and most of Eastern Europe these two things have stopped existing since WW2 gentlemen and ladies.

Vaclav Klaus' frequently says Margret Thatcher and Milton Friedman are his role models. I hope all those people in Serbia applauding him are aware of his extremely unsocial, neoliberal economic positions.

gajo, poland does not want that. They have always been against Slavic Unity. Heck, they had an apartheid repression on Orthodox Christians in their borders in the 1930s. They prohibited us from owning land, they closed over 100 of our churches... and on top of that they are always against Russia. We can do without Poland in the slavic union.

Then problem two is how to prevent economic domination of one side. Slovenia for example got richer and richer and richer in the former yugoslavia as time went on. The same can not be said of the other republics. Wealth inequality increased in the Slovenian favor. So I am not sure that a slavic union is prepared to address problems of inequality.

Nothing to add, he is right.
The human rights versus civil rights is a very interesting question because so many times the civil rights were violated by powers which did pretend to do that while caring about human rights - usually a lame excuse.

EU, EU, EU ... forget that. It's Germany's evolved idea of fascism is responsible for all this crap. It's always them. How much proof you need?
