I think, Danilo got hurt by some hillbillies and he is very bitter. Understand that and it is nothing new. There are some neanderthals living in the area but it does not justify to put everything down.

Besides... it is not a very hard job to find a gay-bashing foreigner/immigrant-hating neanderthal even in San Francisco or Munich or New York. Just go to a trailer park in Milpitas, only few steps from the best Oriental and European restaurants in the Bay Area. Lucky if you won't be shot on the spot.

In Munich go to some footy game - and you will land up in hospital within few minutes.

And FYI - maybe you had arguments and nasty encounter in Serbia (I did have some not very nice ones in an other nearby country) - but I was shot without any apparent reason in East Palo Alto, just for fun. That does not mean, S.F. Bay area is something really bad - it merely means, E. Palo Alto is not a place to be any time and sheriff's advise is to be taken seriously.

My workplace was in Menlo Park at that time and I had to commute through E. Palo Alto. After the incident I begun to look for an other job and resigned after I found a better one, much closer to me. No hard feeling.

Danilo, although you may have a point, I think you are being too hard on both others and yourself.

There are people who come here because they are fed up with the 'western' way of life. No I don't (necessarily) mean fed up with working hard all the time. People who come from colder, darker parts of Europe perhaps prefer life here. I know one Irish guy who retied here for no reason, he took early retirement and the guy is a millionaire. He had no connection with Serbia but decided to move.

Anyway, if either you or Ataman wants to drop me a line bganon@lycos.com

What a silly and irresponsible comment, Danilo.

Few more reasons:

#4: You have quite some children and you do not want yourself and your kids to be stuck into debt regarding college (if you are American, that is)

#5: You are not very good at playing with stocks and decided to ignore them, following the principle: "who don't know Arabic language should not speak Arabic language". At the same time the housing prices in your area quadrupled - and you just can't buy a 3-bed room house for $1.3 million.... even if others do, you consider it to be pretty irresponsible to say the least.

And at the same time you inherit a large house somewhere in Central Europe.

Now, what you do than (in addition that you more-less can keep your job in the States while being in the area). And that you can claim foreign residency + tax-free status.

Na, guess.

But I don't mind to move back to the Bay Area if you pay my mortgage and yearly travels to Europe. And my kid's tuition.

wrong on all counts, twat.

And I don't live anywhere near Belgrade.

Just a normal guy living and working where I want to.

Not a miserable whinger like yourself who probably blames everybody else for their own problems.

:)

No, John.

You moved to Belgrade for one the same reasons, myself included, that EVERY foreigner or foreigner or Serb descendancy has. You moved because of one of the following:

1) You're a failure. or running from some terrible but temporary failure.

This is the most common. Could be divorce, could be bankruptcy, could be general inability to get a career together by your 40s. Could be some banal kind of mid-life crisis. If this is "John Bosnitch, Journalist" we're probably looking at all 3.

2) You're a young, dumb schmuck and following your (likely very attractive) girlfriend around the world.

nuff said

3) You want people to take you more seriously that you would otherwise deserve.

Foreigners go to Asia to be more sexually appealing than they would be in their own countries. Foreigners come to Serbia to be more philosophically interesting. In Serbia, it doesn't take much. Just be boorish with your dull, pedestrian thoughts and you'll be considered a major thinker.
