After numerous trips to all countries of former Yugoslavia, I still find one thing astonishing. Every side regards itself as a victim:

- Serbs are the victims of Croats, Albanians, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Americans & Germans.
- Monenegrins used to be the victims of Croats & Albanians, but now regard themselves as the victims of Serbs.
- Croats are the victims of Serbs, Monenegrins & Bosniaks.
- Bosniaks are the victims of Serbs & Croats.
- Slovenians are the victims of Serbs, Croats & Austrians.
- Albanians are the victims of Serbs & Macedonians.
- Macedonians are the victims of Albanians, Greeks and (sometimes) Bulgarians.
- Everyone's a victim of the Roma.

It's pretty much the same attitude that you can find in the discussions on this website.

Yes, this might have been one reason for Thaci causing more trouble in the north: It was announced that KFOR planned to reduce the number of personnel in Kosovo. With the almost non-existing economy, some 1000 less KFOR troops spending money in Kosovo would further increase the poverty.

I'd go even further. Both the Serbian mafia in northern Kosovo & the Albanian mafia in southern Kosovo would like to keep the status quo. Current events are helpful for both sides: The situation will remain unstable.

Well said. It seems that extremists on all sides love nothing more than to find excuses for their own personal failings. And as we are all aware , 'excuses' are a poor and distant cousin to the 'reasons' why things occur.

I.E - 'reasons' have no human consiousness relating to the cause of an event. For example - "the 'reason' the plane crashed was a failure in a hydraulic line." Here there was no human weighing of options or decisions - no active human conscious decision makeing - The resulting failure was totally outside of any human action or reaction.

Not so with 'excuses'. ALL excuses will have their root in a specific human decision(s). Excuses are actions that have been , to varying degrees, premeditated and an active consious decision was made.

Excuses attempt to justify our (often bad/negative) actions as somehow being the result of someone elses even greater bad/negative action. Its the " its not my fault - they did it first" mentality. As if somehow our actions and decisions that have led others to suffer , are now justified.

There are infinate 'excuses' offered for the wars and current situation in the Balkans. All the troubles can find their cause in human decisions , consiousness and actions. 'Excuses' offer an avenue for the feeble minded to justify their own failure. Reasons offer the greater mind an oportunity NOT to blame others for their actions , but to attempt to find a greater understanding and hence , to actually pursue a personal/ social / philosophical 'truth'.

Not so fast yourself! YOU are the one who is confused big time.

The word "multiethnic", as I understand it, refers broadly to people from different racial groups, as in Serbs, Albanians, Germans, Greeks, Arabs, Chinese, Red Indians, Eskimos, Zulus, etc. So multiethnic gangs would refer to gangs coming from more than one ethnic group.

You have confused multiethnic with multinational. A "Croatian Serb", "Bosnian Serb" and "Kosovo Serb" refers to a SINGLE ethnic group from different countries -- in this case Serbs from Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. They are multinationals but not multiethnic since there is only one ethnic group.

In the same way that ethnic Albanians from Albania, Montegnegro, Greece, Germany, Yankee Land etc are not multiethnic (since there is only one ethnic group) but multinational (since these Albanians come from different countries).

Referring this comment we get impression that Serbs are the most peaceful people in the world victimized by their neighours. Was any Albanian killed, any home burned, and mosque destroied by Serbs in Kosovo???? Because you are not honest at all, except Russian and some dictatorial states, no body tursts you anymore. After numerous trips to all countries of former Yugoslavia, I still find one thing astonishing. Every side regards itself as a victim:

- Serbs are the victims of Croats, Albanians, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Americans & Germans.
- Monenegrins used to be the victims of Croats & Albanians, but now regard themselves as the victims of Serbs.
- Croats are the victims of Serbs, Monenegrins & Bosniaks.
- Bosniaks are the victims of Serbs & Croats.
- Slovenians are the victims of Serbs, Croats & Austrians.
- Albanians are the victims of Serbs & Macedonians.
- Macedonians are the victims of Albanians, Greeks and (sometimes) Bulgarians.
- Everyone's a victim of the Roma.

It's pretty much the same attitude that you can find in the discussions on this website.

You wouldn't have smuggling if the border was kept open. The albanians and the americans decided to starv the serbian population. If they don't allow a normal flow of food and other goods to reach ordinary people then they have to find alternative ways to get it.

Taking action against mafia structures indeed sounds like the most promising step towards peace in former Yugoslavia. Obviously, this also includes the Albanian mafia, the Croat mafia, the Bosniak mafia, etc.

Well said. It seems that extremists on all sides love nothing more than to find excuses for their own personal failings. And as we are all aware , 'excuses' are a poor and distant cousin to the 'reasons' why things occur.

I.E - 'reasons' have no human consiousness relating to the cause of an event. For example - "the 'reason' the plane crashed was a failure in a hydraulic line." Here there was no human weighing of options or decisions - no active human conscious decision makeing - The resulting failure was totally outside of any human action or reaction.

Not so with 'excuses'. ALL excuses will have their root in a specific human decision(s). Excuses are actions that have been , to varying degrees, premeditated and an active consious decision was made.

Excuses attempt to justify our (often bad/negative) actions as somehow being the result of someone elses even greater bad/negative action. Its the " its not my fault - they did it first" mentality. As if somehow our actions and decisions that have led others to suffer , are now justified.

What you have written Mike is 100% correct.
There are infinate 'excuses' offered for the wars and current situation in the Balkans. All the troubles can find their cause in human decisions , consiousness and actions. 'Excuses' offer an avenue for the feeble minded to justify their own failure. Reasons offer the greater mind an oportunity NOT to blame others for their actions , but to attempt to find a greater understanding and hence , to actually pursue a personal/ social / philosophical 'truth'.

'Excuses' allows cowardice an avenue of escape.

And there are ALOT of 'excuses' in the Balkans.

Not so fast yourself! YOU are the one who is confused big time.

The word "multiethnic", as I understand it, refers broadly to people from different racial groups, as in Serbs, Albanians, Germans, Greeks, Arabs, Chinese, Red Indians, Eskimos, Zulus, etc. So multiethnic gangs would refer to gangs coming from more than one ethnic group.

You have confused multiethnic with multinational. A "Croatian Serb", "Bosnian Serb" and "Kosovo Serb" refers to a SINGLE ethnic group from different countries -- in this case Serbs from Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. They are multinationals but not multiethnic since there is only one ethnic group.

In the same way that ethnic Albanians from Albania, Montegnegro, Greece, Germany, Yankee Land etc are not multiethnic (since there is only one ethnic group) but multinational (since these Albanians come from different countries).
