Actually, there are a lot of factors to the difference in birth rate. One of them is the abortion rate, or pregnancies not finished. Apparently in the second half of the last century it was in average around three times higher in Serbian women than that of Albanian women. It means that Serbian women or families chose not to have a baby three times more often than Albanian women or families. Now, how does one explain that statistic? I'll leave it to you genius.

dalmatino - I get it, you are telling me that the poorer one is, the more likely one is to have children?

Well I don't know what country / village you are from, but you will find that those in urban centres around the world people tend to have children when they can afford it. That is certainly true of Belgrade.

Good luck with getting the missus to pop them out by the way.

"Ho-hum, gays are really selfish with these parades, the enormous amount of money spent on security, that cities around the world cannot afford"

Most cities don't need security. Most cities, the only cops there are those gay cops marching in the parade.

@Ratko.

Actually, I'm not much interested in gay parades myself. I find them annoying for much the same reason many people do. I do, however, support tooth-and-nail the right to have them

Are the gays not Serbs? Do the gay Serbs not have the same hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections and passions? Are they not fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as we heterosexuals are? If you stab them, do they not bleed? If you kill them, do they not die?

And does the Republic of Serbia not have an obligation towards both its international commitments (UN) as well as its own citizens in terms of ensuring their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly? As far as I know, also in Serbia there is legally no difference between engaging in a homosexual or heterosexual act, given that it of course takes place in private between consenting adults. What kind of country would rather heed to the criminals and hooligans who have demonstrated nothing but contempt for their own capital city, than to protect a minority within the Serbian nation in exercising their human rights in full compliance with their own Constitution to peacefully assemble?

Where are the great 'political legalists' and defenders of the Constitution on this issue, and where are all those who before them cheered to the words "No one should ever dare to beat you again!"...??

"if the government wants to encourage a higher birthrate it would do well to either improve the economic situation or to give incentives to those that want children."

I always wondered what your secret was. Apparently it's Kosovo's economic progress that motivates you Albanians to generate the highest birthrate in Europe. Thanks for the recommendation. Now Serbs have something to aspire to.

it's time for us to make some social progress, this parade harms no one, and there are thousands of more important and newsworthy issues to worry about in this beautiful country. wake up and accept people for whoever they are and the lifestyle choices they make. that being said I myself would never attend to support or protest.

Ho-hum, gays are really selfish with these parades, the enormous amount of money spent on security, that cities around the world cannot afford, is a statement that gays care about their own causes than the communities they live in. I say, if you want to hold a parade, whoever you are, pay for police protection from your own pockets, and be my guest, hold as many parades as you want.

What is the bigger shame to choose to be an ally and friend of a well known criminal whose men stole, looted and murdered throughout Serbia and the former Jugoslavija, or is it to allow a peaceful march?

This nasty piece of work should stop being so obsessed with homosexuality..

Oh and if the government wants to encourage a higher birthrate it would do well to either improve the economic situation or to give incentives to those that want children. No banning of the democratic right to protest is going to improve the birth rate - except in the mind of a fool perhaps.
