Homosexuality isn't curable but homophobia is. The main reason of organising a pride parade in Serbia is to show how incredibly homophobic and also violent in relation to diversity some parts of the current Serbian society are. It's simply throwing light on the massive problems you will have to deal with sooner or later.

Ataman maybe sexuality is complicated but one's opinion on it does not have to be either simple minded or hypocritical.
Most Americans or US / Canadian influenced people might connect Canadian pride with other marches. I consider myself pretty globally aware, but I've never had the desire to type 'Toronto gays' into Youtube. On this one at least I'll remain 'uneducated'. It doesn't concern me. What is of concern to me is that those that choose to take part in this march in Belgrade are protected - prescisely because they have been beaten to a pulp in the past.
For me its a case of both intelligence and of not being a right wing biggot. To be intelligent would make one understand that although one might feel 'grossed out' by watching two men going at it, does not mean that said men should be beaten up, it does mean to think 'hmm I don't much like that, so I won't watch, thanks'. A right wing biggot of course quite often has been brought up to believe certain things, again, without thinking - you know that it is the end of the world, that God will strike gays down (and if he doesn't its ok to strike down gays, or to cheer, or look the other way when it happens).
By the way this ??? character is / was of course that usual troll wtf, who is so cowardly he doesn't even have the guts to post under one of his 'recognised' monickers. I know a lot of independents in the US are sympathetic to Ron Paul, but to think how many right wing creeps are hiding within the libetrarian movement, eh Mr 'Quisling'?

The motives are....
1) Sexuality is pretty complicated thing. According Freud homosexuality is in everyone, in most people dormant and some just can't deal with it. Not an expert on that - but it could be.
2) Most people connect the gay parades with the pretty disgusting pictures in Toronto (or in some American cities). What they do not know - 99.99% of LGBT has nothing to do with these pictures. It is also of human nature: the leadership of any organization, be it LGBT, human rights, Apple user group (and so on) could become corrupt at one stage and do certain disgusting things for the money.
For instance - long ago - I was cheated badly by German MAC (Apple user group) leadership... they extorted a mere 100 DM or so from me, illegally. On the phone they told me, they do such things on the regular basis.
I fail to see a major difference between that action and that LGBT leadership of Toronto goes into setting up pretty shocking street scenes - just to get more money and more visitors and more people talking about them.
This should not make anyone hate Apple Mac OS or hate, say, Chaikovsky music (he was gay, by the way). But I have my opinion about the LGBT leadership of Toronto, certain leaders of MAC E.V. of Germany and Robert Leonard Rope.

I simply can't believe that some of these opinions exist.
I grew up speaking Serbian at home.
It's simply beyond me what Neanderthals some Serbs are. Visiting Serbia for 2 years and reading this forum was a real wake-up call.
I used to think of myself as being of Serbian decent. That's still true, of course but, after my protracted visit here, I'll never consider myself as being in any way, shape or form "Serbian".
It was good, I suppose, to spend some time here and clear that little matter up.

Just don't see what the big deal is about having a parade.
Why are people so frightened of it? Because it doesn't tally with their upbringing, what they were told was right or wrong?

The usual homo-bomb did explode. Unfortunately looking at the pictures I do see, why the way parades are hold do hurt LGBT community horribly.
The pictures are indeed disgusting, but we have to remember: they are NOT about gays in general, they are a sick branch grown becau$$$$$e of a $$$$$ingle rea$$$$on certain LGBT community leader$$$$ feel in, say, Toronto... and their need$$$ which are totally different from the needs of 99% of the LGBT.
So what's happening to my understanding:
- in places like Belgrade, Budapest, Minsk, Moscow... (you name it) the people who belong to LGBT feel marginalized or what-not and they want to organize a parade.
- other, "normal" people strongly oppose, citing precisely the already seen disgusting pictures... without knowing that these pictures do NOT reflect the needs of LGBT people, they do reflect MONETARY needs of certain activists - be their name damned - and the way they organize these parades just to extort more money. It's greed, not sex.
It is extremely unfortunate that precisely that picture gets translated.
So if it is about a parade with taste - by all means, please. I do not care less on my side about these parades, only just for everyone to know: usually it starts with anti-gay, than continues with anti-Gypsy agenda which grows into anti-Semitic and finally into anti-Serbian as usual. Best to be stopped from the begin on.
Now if it grows into something like on the pictures - that is completely different story. There is such thing as public taste and unfortunately some people can do EVERYTHING for the buck.

Oh, they do (as far as I know). The problem with Toronto is - if you read the blogs - to my understanding that the organization needs money. So they act like a hooker and whom you see on the pictures are essentially hookers, at least in their mindset.

I too live in a western city, I was born and still live in London, my parents are both Serb, my father having moved to the UK at 4 years old and my mother being born here. Now I was not brought up in an authoritarian household, but I have always been against gay pride, it is nothing to be proud of at all. FYI, Danilo and I have been contributing to this site on a variety of topics for quite a while, and just because our names are Serbian doesn't mean that we ought to be homophobic, as you are. I'm not even gay, but because I live in a Western city where most of the population has long since moved beyond this type of biggotry and support equal rights for all citizens, I find the prevailing mindset in Serbia to be extremely repulsive. The scientific community has firmly established that homosexuality is a natural biological occurence. For instance, it is common that in families with a large number of boys, the youngest son will turn out gay. I'm not a scientist myself and couldn't offer an explanation on the genetics, but then I have no trouble trusting what my doctor or dentist tells me so why should I doubt the rendering of science on this matter?
The same way American republicans (Tea Baggers in particular) drive me insane with their nonsense over taxes, the US Constitution or Obama's place of birth, homophobic Serbs cause me much indigestion. I'm pulling for Serbia to move out of the dark ages and when I read these stories I can't say that I see that happening anytime soon.

I'm guessing it's going to be another fun time in Serbia just like last year. Is Serbian society ever going to grow up? Is there any point to me still caring or bothering to even think about what's going on there anymore? FYI, Danilo and I have been contributing to this site on a variety of topics for quite a while, and just because our names are Serbian doesn't mean that we ought to be homophobic, as you are. I'm not even gay, but because I live in a Western city where most of the population has long since moved beyond this type of biggotry and support equal rights for all citizens, I find the prevailing mindset in Serbia to be extremely repulsive. The scientific community has firmly established that homosexuality is a natural biological occurence. For instance, it is common that in families with a large number of boys, the youngest son will turn out gay. I'm not a scientist myself and couldn't offer an explanation on the genetics, but then I have no trouble trusting what my doctor or dentist tells me so why should I doubt the rendering of science on this matter?
The same way American republicans (Tea Baggers in particular) drive me insane with their nonsense over taxes, the US Constitution or Obama's place of birth, homophobic Serbs cause me much indigestion. I'm pulling for Serbia to move out of the dark ages and when I read these stories I can't say that I see that happening anytime soon.

This is the first bit of sense someone in that government has come out with. The truth is probably most people in the government do not agree with homosexuality and the sick parade they wish to participate in, they seem to think that just by holding it the EU will now see Serbia as accepting what Markovic correctly called an ill parade of people. But the truth is last year not only did we see the violent and angry reaction of people on the day of the parade, but the day before on the peaceful protest against it, where thousands marched against it, thus showing what the people of Serbia really believe. But as usual, the government will go against the wishes of the people, and even of the police officers. A cousin of mine works for the Zandarmerija, and he felt awful about having to defend the parade, but the fact is if he didnt do so he would lose his job, the police are political just like when Milosevic was around.

To Nenad and Danilo, and for that matter those like you. Nobody is forcing you to go to Serbia, in fact, if you think that way then it is best you stay away from Serbia. All people like you are nothing but people with no principles, the types who move with whatever the times say is correct, no matter how obscene it is. I too live in a western city, I was born and still live in London, my parents are both Serb, my father having moved to the UK at 4 years old and my mother being born here. Now I was not brought up in an authoritarian household, but I have always been against gay pride, it is nothing to be proud of at all. At the same time I dont want to lynch gay people, but I ask myself, why cant they keep their disgusting lifestyle to themselves??? As the Toronto pictures show, a man is allowed to walk naked in the streets and not arrested simply because hes gay and hes being proud, had this not have been a gay pride parade he would have been arrested, and rightfully so.
Forcing a lifestyle on a nation where the vast majority of people are opposed to it is often seen by dictatorships, despite the fact that Nenad and Danilo types are liberals who should in theory be against such things, so theres a massive contradiction.
As for your 'Modern Serbia' idea, please, your wasting not just others' time but your own. So because time moves that means tradition and culture has to be destroyed? Truth doesn't change just because time does. Maybe you would be better off meeting up with Cedomir Jovanovic of the LDP, and doing whatever it is you people like to indulge in.

Homosexuality isn't curable but homophobia is. The main reason of organising a pride parade in Serbia is to show how incredibly homophobic and also violent in relation to diversity some parts of the current Serbian society are. It's simply throwing light on the massive problems you will have to deal with sooner or later.

Oh, they do (as far as I know). The problem with Toronto is - if you read the blogs - to my understanding that the organization needs money. So they act like a hooker and whom you see on the pictures are essentially hookers, at least in their mindset.
I know several people one would call "LGBT", some are OK people, some (one) was famous - and with her passing away unwillingly we became richer :(( Some (a regular of B92, guess who) is a nut case and a bigot. Except that idiot no one I know would ever participate in such circus. The regular idiot of B92 did and was proud of it. That tells all.

I grew up speaking Serbian at home.
It's simply beyond me what Neanderthals some Serbs are. Visiting Serbia for 2 years and reading this forum was a real wake-up call.
I used to think of myself as being of Serbian decent. That's still true, of course but, after my protracted visit here, I'll never consider myself as being in any way, shape or form "Serbian".
It was good, I suppose, to spend some time here and clear that little matter up.

Most Americans or US / Canadian influenced people might connect Canadian pride with other marches. I consider myself pretty globally aware, but I've never had the desire to type 'Toronto gays' into Youtube. On this one at least I'll remain 'uneducated'. It doesn't concern me. What is of concern to me is that those that choose to take part in this march in Belgrade are protected - prescisely because they have been beaten to a pulp in the past.
For me its a case of both intelligence and of not being a right wing biggot. To be intelligent would make one understand that although one might feel 'grossed out' by watching two men going at it, does not mean that said men should be beaten up, it does mean to think 'hmm I don't much like that, so I won't watch, thanks'. A right wing biggot of course quite often has been brought up to believe certain things, again, without thinking - you know that it is the end of the world, that God will strike gays down (and if he doesn't its ok to strike down gays, or to cheer, or look the other way when it happens).
By the way this ??? character is / was of course that usual troll wtf, who is so cowardly he doesn't even have the guts to post under one of his 'recognised' monickers. I know a lot of independents in the US are sympathetic to Ron Paul, but to think how many right wing creeps are hiding within the libetrarian movement, eh Mr 'Quisling'?

Why are people so frightened of it? Because it doesn't tally with their upbringing, what they were told was right or wrong?
In this day and age when the political and global system has become so diseased and decayed certain people with rather odd priorities choose instead to get hot under the collar because of a protest meeting?

The motives are....
1) Sexuality is pretty complicated thing. According Freud homosexuality is in everyone, in most people dormant and some just can't deal with it. Not an expert on that - but it could be.
2) Most people connect the gay parades with the pretty disgusting pictures in Toronto (or in some American cities). What they do not know - 99.99% of LGBT has nothing to do with these pictures. It is also of human nature: the leadership of any organization, be it LGBT, human rights, Apple user group (and so on) could become corrupt at one stage and do certain disgusting things for the money.

The usual homo-bomb did explode. Unfortunately looking at the pictures I do see, why the way parades are hold do hurt LGBT community horribly.
The pictures are indeed disgusting, but we have to remember: they are NOT about gays in general, they are a sick branch grown becau$$$$$e of a $$$$$ingle rea$$$$on certain LGBT community leader$$$$ feel in, say, Toronto... and their need$$$ which are totally different from the needs of 99% of the LGBT.
So what's happening to my understanding:
- in places like Belgrade, Budapest, Minsk, Moscow... (you name it) the people who belong to LGBT feel marginalized or what-not and they want to organize a parade.
- other, "normal" people strongly oppose, citing precisely the already seen disgusting pictures... without knowing that these pictures do NOT reflect the needs of LGBT people, they do reflect MONETARY needs of certain activists - be their name damned - and the way they organize these parades just to extort more money. It's greed, not sex.
It is extremely unfortunate that precisely that picture gets translated.
So if it is about a parade with taste - by all means, please. I do not care less on my side about these parades, only just for everyone to know: usually it starts with anti-gay, than continues with anti-Gypsy agenda which grows into anti-Semitic and finally into anti-Serbian as usual. Best to be stopped from the begin on.
Now if it grows into something like on the pictures - that is completely different story. There is such thing as public taste and unfortunately some people can do EVERYTHING for the buck.
Sorry, ??? did mix two completely different things. And such disgusting circus like in Toronto has to be banned, regardless, gay or not gay. The pictures make me vomit. But we never know - last year the gay parade in Zagreb had pretty disgusting motto... there is clearly a border to be set.
For instance if I would walk around Pionir Park naked in the middle of the day and make sex with my wife in the front of the office of Tadic - than the police will come and take us into custody. Even if it is a hetero-sex... probably because most people will find such act disgusting.

But there are clearly beyond the border between "good taste" and "disgusting mob". The pics are disgusting - basically an orgy was choreographed, publicly with the hope it will bring money to the ones who are on the top of the LGBT food chain in Toronto. Yuck, that should not happen anywhere.
The worst is - as you see - these things cost the LGBT communities in countries like Serbia a lot. We can say - if I recall, you are member of LGBT in Serbia - the fat cats of Toronto did have it at YOUR cost.
And would it be a hetero parade like that in Toronto, don't worry, I would say the same thing.
