If I were Serbia I would build more underground subways and the like - including ones which went under the Danube. They wouldn't be so vulnerable to NATO bombs.

This bridge is symbol of an irresponsible, unaccountable, greedy and selfish government which do not concern about their citizens and about what they really need. Also we are very poor country and we don't need such expensive project especially if we know that our government took a loan for this investment. We still don't know how much is going to cost that bridge at the end, and that is a reason why we already call that bridge HALF MILLION BRIDGE although we still didn't chose official name. The main reason for representing bridge in this moment is to attract voters because presidential elections are going to held next year.

Build them and they'll use 'm

Forget your fancy trains. How about some of them public outhouses y'all be talking about? I'm tired of warshing your dang alley walls and stepping on other folks presents left there for your politicians like milk and cookies for Sandy Claws.
That's why I quit drinking beer, cold spritzers and co-cola when i visit. Now I only drink hard likker with no ice,'till you build some.

Happened to be drinking a spritzer on a nearby riverboat and thought I'd check it out.

It is a beautiful bridge and will become one of the landmarks of Belgrade, put on postcards, spied from airplanes etc. I had expected mostly the older generation to turn out - in those posessing the 'communist' mindset bridges, roads are always uber impressive (me I'd prefer an underground system), but there were all kinds of people around. I suppose people wanted to feel good about something and on a wonderful sunny day it was a good view.

Now its time to build a metro...
The bridge itself has many lanes and a couple of extra lanes for when the metro is built. It will really ease some of the traffic pressure. Additionally its impressive from the perspective of us in this country that are so used to delays of one kind or another, this looks both well built and is on schedule.

So a good thing. But of course its no accident that this bridge has been built in time for elections next year and it shouldn't be forgotten that it was more expensive than similar bridges of its type.

Yes it might win a few votes, but in the end its a minor factor when people decide who to vote for.

Now its time to build a metro!
