The ring leader considers himself to be a Macedonian but no one could prove his citizenship till now.
The proof so far:

Will not translate the entire thing, I am lazy.
But as they write:
"A bûnügyrõl elsõként a Magyar Televízió Híradója közölt információkat, még csütörtök este. Másnap arról számolt be a hírmûsor, hogy a macedón férfi mutatta meg a helyszínt a rendõröknek, és feltehetõen nyomozási alkut ajánlot"
Or:
"The news os Hungarian TV was first who provided information, first Tuhrsday evening. The next day they reported, the Macedonian man did show the place to the police and probably made a plea deal"
More (in the begin):
"A hatóságok a ... bûnbanda feltételezett vezetõjét is letartóztatták, ám azt egyelõre nem tudni, hogy a férfi milyen állampolgárságú. A kihallgatáson macedónnak vallotta magát, ám ezt eddig nem sikerült hiteles dokumentumokkal alátámasztani"
Or:
"The authorities arrested also the probable leader of the gang, but it is not known, what citizenship he has. During the hearing he did say to be a Macedonian but that could not be verified with any official document yet.
What is really odd (not!) is that here immediately some go into full-attack mode at the word "south Slavic", some go into a full defense mode and of course a major news agency (Reuters) just unprofessionally writes what would make other political things easier sell to the herd later.
They are a bad shepherd - got with pants down.
