Thomas - Gotovina was convicted of war crimes at the Hague. He is now appealing against that sentence, but at this moment he is a guilty man according to ICTY. Thats a fact.

Political motivations? How? Tadic is replying to Kosor's comments, comments that she made in public. Why didn't she make those comments in private? Can Tadic's comments be seen in context of the elections? Let me see, ok elections are likely to be held around April in 2012, thats in about 8 months, hmmm. Can Kosor's comments be seen in the context of elections? Elections in Croatia are due in early December, hmm.

'Tadic's comments also give credence to Kosor's comments' What? Yes your comments give credence to my comments - do you see what I did? Anybody can talk nonsense, but it doesn't mean it makes any sese.

'Consider the destruction wrought by many local Serbs in Slovenia'. Hmm, funny thing but there was no destruction wrought by many local Serbs in Slovenia. You might be referring to JNA, which at that time was staffed from people all over former Jugoslavija, not local Serbs.

You are suggesting that Tadic or Serbia doesn't have the right to state an opinion on an issue that directly impacts Serbia because of past history? Those Croatian Serb refugees are for the most part living in Serbia, why should their voices be forgotten?

My thoughts are always above all with those that have to live the situation, not those on high. Perhaps Tadic's comments don't make things easier for Croatian Serbs right now, but its not Tadic's fault that Kosor venerated a convicted war criminal - she did not have to do it. It is Kosor's fault.

@bganon

The case of Gotovina et al is on appeal, so any criticism by Tadic is a moot point because legal proceedings are still on foot. Indeed, there are strong grounds for appeal as Orie's conclusions arguably involved jurisdictional error.

It is also hypocritical for Tadic to accuse Kosor of political motivations in her comments when by commenting, he is doing the same. What ever happended to the practice of a diplomatic note or discussing such things through diplomatic channels or seeking redress for any grievance through the ICJ. Can't Tadic's comments be seen purely for domestic consumption in the lead up to Serbia's domestic elections?

Tadic's comments also give credence to Kosor's comments.

Tadic, by intejecting himself into the domestic celebrations of a neighbouring country, reinforces the perceptions that Serbia will never cease territorial pretensions on neighbouring states, and thus create resistance to the return of Serb refugees, because they will be manipulated/willing participants in rebellion and destruction of state institutions. Consider the destruction wrought by many local Serbs in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo because their loyalty was Belgrade and not Ljubljana, Zagreb, Sarajevo or Pristina.

Tadic's comments in this case represent an own goal and go against the insterest of the principles and people he professes to represent.

Big words coming from Serbia. Perhaps we can look at how many times the word "Kangaroo Court" is used by Serbs when Serbs are on trial or indicted for war crimes by the Hague. The Hague is seen as one of the tools used against Serbia by the "Empire" and her allies. But suddenly when it isn't a Serb who is tried, the Hague is an oasis of justice and accountability? Doesn't anybody see the problem here?
(Marcus, 8 August 2011 21:04)

Hmm, quite possibly because it is seen as a kangaroo court against Serbs, and despite that Gotovina and co were convicted may actually mean that they are indisputabaly war criminals that not even this kangaroo court could deny. Which would in turn highlight the bad form of Kosor's comments.
I doubt that any Serb, in any context would describe the Hague as an oasis of justice or accountability, as this has not been demonstrated (in my humble opinion).

Quite a bit of coverage in the British press about the substantial section of the Hajduk fans who were happily giving the Nazi salute in both games against Stoke City in the Europa league in the last couple of weeks.

A very sad sight in 2011.

You are wrong. At the time of operation Oluja an albanian family was interviewed by a television team. They had been kicked out of Croatia for a reason they did not know. Croatia saw an oportunity to get rid of all unwanted people and they did.
I will give you another example of how much croats hate albanians. In a croatian club in Malmoe, Sweden a friend of mine was at first refused entrance to the club. He went there with a croat friend. The people at the door thought he was albanian and told his friend "no albanians, no albanians". This friend just laughed and said he was swedish. They appologized and let them all in. Croats used albanians to fight their common enemy the serbs. You albanians think the croats like you but believe me the don't.

Ivan gypsies have been attacked in Croatia on numerous occasions picked up by Zagreb's media - your mentioning jews in Croatia is unfortunate at best. As for Albanians I have no doubt that if you had a territorial dispute with any minority you would do the same to them as you did to Serbs in Oluja.

As far as this nonsense that Milosevic was a nationalist, its high time people got a grip - he put the clothes of a nationalist on for a period but he was not a nationalist. You can argue that he (or Dacic) were power hungry opportunists, as almost all Balkan politicians are.

In other words Milosevic (like many leaders) didn't have any ideology, until people like you understand that you will never hope to understand the relationship between power and state in the Balkans. In Croatia however, there were a number of real nationalist politicians, either because they really believed that, or because they believed that the population was truly nationalist.

Tadic's position is correct, by the 'international' standard Gotovina and company is a war criminal. For Kosor to glorify a convicted war criminal is in bad taste at best and at worst supporting war crimes. Its ridiculous Kosor did not need to glorify Gotovina, all she needed to do in the Croatian context is to do what they all do - to say that Oluja was a necessary move - then they wave their flags and get all excited etc etc etc...

This just proves who caused the war in former Yug. Croatia is the most racist and intollerant country in the Balkans. It has no minorities because they were all kicked out or killed. Before the war serbs, jews, gypsies and even albanians lived here. No they are all gone. Either killed or forced out.
(Hank the Tank, 8 August 2011 10:07)

Albanians, Jews, Gypsies still live in Croatia because they didn't attack Croatia, Croatians have no problems with them.

"He said that war criminals must never be glorified and recalled that representatives of the democratic state of Serbia, which had been cooperating with the Hague Tribunal and had delivered 46 indicted war criminals to the international war crimes court, had never done anything similar."

Correct. But only because Serbia at the moment, fortunately, hasn't a government made up of nationalistic extremists, like it is the case in Croatia.

Tadic is a smart man and needs to protect his leadership. He had to make a comment regarding Kosor’s statement – reason being only to satisfy the Serbian Nationalists Right. Imagine the consequences if he didn’t.

Tadic knows who was responsible for the wars in the former Yug.
Tadic knows that it was Milosevic’s policies and refusal to accept the Z4 Plan that lead to Operation Storm
Tadic also knows that the Serbs were ordered to evacuate from Croatia by their own leadership.

Tadic would not have apologised to Croatians if he had thought the Serbs were not responsible for the crimes committed.

It is very sad but true. For crying out lound they still have the same symbol on their flag that they used when they were with the NAZI'S slaughtering more than 800 000 civilians in Bosnia alone!!!! A great pity the Croats came out of the Yugoslav wars smelling of roses. The only odour emanating from their 'war of independence' is that of burnt villages and dead civilians. They bludgeoned, massacred, and ethnically cleansed their way to 'victory' with a little help from their foreign sponsors. All those blithely trapesing down to Dalmatia for their summer hols know nothing of their hosts, and what they're responsible for. If they did, they'd never set foot there again.

Quite a bit of coverage in the British press about the substantial section of the Hajduk fans who were happily giving the Nazi salute in both games against Stoke City in the Europa league in the last couple of weeks.

A very sad sight in 2011.

Please go to [link]. I think that most Serbian people actually don' know what had been done to Serbian people in Croatia and rest of Balcan,in last century.***…** watch this and you will see crimes, that even Hitler could not believe could happen. Seing this, you tell me if Serbs were wrong to take up an arms and protect themselves in this last Balcan war. If Serbs are not aware of these crimes, how can rest of the world know. Croats covered up their crimes in very cleaver way.

Thomas- Serbia having territorial ambitions on neighbouring states? Are you sh***ing me. We are trying to preserve what is ours, and nothing more.
