Keep the road at Rudare junction blocked, it shows that the local population will not lie back and let this breach of UNSCR1244 take place without the knowledge or approval from the International community. If this indeed was the case or once more untruths are told, then either the pristina mafia or EULEX command staff should leave and let more transparent and capable bodies take control.

"There is no doubt in anyones mind that Serbia is the winner of this latest spectacle. "
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

There is no doubt that there is NO winner in this Kosovo kindergarden. Except for people who take advantage of the situation: Smugglers in the North, and the big smugglers in Pristina. See it as a drug mafia war (hmm, a good comparison, if you have Thaci's 'carreer' in mind): One group (Pristina) wants to extend its territory, the other local group (Serbs in the North) is opposing it. It's not about 'law and order', just about influence for the criminal business.

But I think, the U.S. KFOR contingent did step outside of it's mandate as they closed the border and put a sign that it's closed.
(Ataman, 30 July 2011 04:50)

KFOR is in charge of security in Kosovo according to 1244 and it closed the border due to security reasons. If KFOR has stepped outside of its mandate rest assured that KFOR's superior, the Security Council, will order it to come inside the mandate.

Thachisvili's days are numbered. Even his most ardent backers can no longer ignore his behavior after his most recent 'diplomatic action'. The US is now telling the EU behind closed doors that "If you don't do anything, we will." The US has forgotten that Europe is not part of the US. But that is what there is to expect of a rapidly diminishing empire as it lashes out more and more over its demise, building up new enemies, creating new ones and regularly upsetting its supposed allies.

Continue to protect what is yours. You have about 95% of the world population behind you.
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

I have spent many years in the Balkans and Kosovo and I can tell you honestly directly from my heart; 90% of all Kfor, Unmik, Eulex, OSCE and others, support Serbia when it comes to sovereignity of Kosovo. Absolutely no doubt and crystal clear!
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

Not that it matters what they think as they are there to follow orders, but did anybody took a vote of them?! For some reason I missed that news !

Resolution 1244 is in full force according to UN. Eulex works under it and must abide it.
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

Absolutely. 1244 is in full force and everybody must abide it as Kosovo did by declaring the UDI in accordance with 1244

And again, Kosovo is NOT a country according to the vast majority of the world and especially the UNSC.
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

Well, not sure how you define "majority" but 109 countries already said that Kosovo is a country when they agreed for Kosovo to be a member of IMF and World Bank. In this case, I think, you missed the news ! As for the UNSC, it has not expressed its opinion on the matter, yet. Let me know when that vote happens and so it expresses the opinion and we can discuss then.

There is no doubt in anyones mind that Serbia is the winner of this latest spectacle.
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

Nice ! Everybody must be happy, then

The advice now is to regroup, prepare for new BIG roadblocks if necessary. Make mobile phone chains to fast get people together. DO NOT engage Kfor with weapons. Struggle, because one cannot steal a bit of a sovereign country by suddenly proclaim it independent. Remember, in the end, right ALWAYS win over wrong. Always.
(Staff, 29 July 2011 23:51)

Absolutely, right always wins and it has already done so :)

Georgian president admits that Russia recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia because of West recognising Kosovo.

My dear friends, if Kosovo really is a unique case then if there is one person who would be a specialist on subject would be the Georgian president.
If the Georgian president would recognise Kosovo - because South Ossetia and Abkhazia are so totally differernt - that would be a strong argument for Kosovo being a unique case.

"1244" is made of rubber - everyone tries to stretch it as far as possible, ICJ included.
With some exaggeration we can say - Moon is part of Serbia and Belgrade is part of Albania because none of these statements does contradict 1244.

Probably it was made by intent vague enough.

Now about NATO: KFOR / NATO is not a loser. They have clear mandate what and how to deal with military and military-like structures (JNA, VS, KLA) - but they have absolutely no mandate how to deal with people's uprising.

This is why there was no action in 2004 as Albanians made some sort of uprising pogroms included - and now we have a Serbian uprising with a pogrom at the admin line crossing and one police fatality. This is outside of KFOR mandate and all they can do is to improvise, their hands are totally tied.

That means of course that Albanian or Serbian civil population can do what they want within very broad tolerance. They can make a pogrom on each other's territory or burn, say, Emona supermarket - KFOR will just struggle with what they can do.

But I think, the U.S. KFOR contingent did step outside of it's mandate as they closed the border and put a sign that it's closed. That of course is nasty for... you or me. It has absolutely no effect on Big Business. The small people got f-ed up as usual, who rely on busses, cars and camions. This all is a sad circus to entertain the crowd both ways.

Newspapers in Western Europe say two things.

(1) This hurts the Albanian cause as the UN and EU really did not like this unilateral action by the Albanian side.

(2) This hurts the Serbian cause as the West does not like to see border posts demolished and KFOR troops being shot at.

So: both sides lose! Taxpayers in Western Europe will become less and less willing to pay for Kosovo province/region/whatever.

maybe the KFOR troops will strike at night when there's like 5 people in the roadblocks?

KFOR will stick around for a while but sooner or later those roadblocks have to go.....if we wait this out it will be a matter of time until they run out of food.

Thanks,

Obviously, someone above the General's paygrade explained to him that according to UNSC Resolution 1244, Kosovo is Serbian territory: if it were otherwise, the entire planet would have recognized Kosovo immediately: there would be no issue. He was instructed obviously to at least create the appearance that international law matters, since he is there pursuant to said resolution. Kosovo won't be a UN member and will never be a EU member without Serbia's recognition. It has gone as far as it can go.

They say that a week is a long time in politics but in the Balkans, everything can change in a day and today it did. This time yesterday, K-Serbs were facing an uncertain future. The odds were stacked against them. Faced with a murderous kleptomaniac in Pristina who sought to control and dominate them and the might of NATO, the stood them down and NATO blinked first. The Serbs of Kosmet, perhaps the most embattled people on the planet, after the Palestinians stood their ground. While we may wonder of the conviction of the DS led government in Belgrade to hold onto Kosovo, today their brethern in Kosovo reminded them of their responsibility. They are the heart and soul of Serbdom everywhere, unflinching, dogged, unyielding and true to their cause. They scored a huge victory today and have inflicted on NATO and Thaci an embarassing climbdown. I say tonight, God Bless them.

This decision is very wise from a wise man. All credit to Buhler for stopping this madness that the circus men in Pristina has started.

I know from different parts of the world collegues of mine that Pristina has hit a wall by this extremely bad decision. Many many diplomats, leaders, press columnists, UN, Eulex etc has condemned Pristinas terrible move. The funny thing is that the K Albanians are very easy to mislead. (I dont know if it has anything to do with their past communist era or minor general education). Thaci has manage to blame the Serbs for the killing of a innocent policeman. (Its true that the one who shot is a criminal, but half the guilt is, according to educated people, the one who sent him on a suicide mission that was bound to fail. No doubt. Period.)
UN is furious, Aston with most of the EU are very angry, the Swedish FM made very good comments earlier about the "circus Kosova".

I would like to give some advice to Serbs in Kosovo. I hope that someone there is reading this and transfer it (maybe translate if necessary) to the brave people there.

This Buehler is an idiot. Why? Well apart from giving ultimatums what messages did he send? He gave the message that in the future Serbs should not believe what he says. He gave the message that the reason he didn't move through with his forces is that the Serbs were armed - the message being that Serbs should arm to prevent anything like this in future. And he gave the message to Kosovo Albanians that Serbs were armed, (futher angering Kos Albanians) which is why he didn't push through.

The real reason they didn't try to push through is that they would have had to kill / severely injure people lying on streets. Doing so would have caused retaliation from Kosovo Serbs and increased instability - stability I might add which is one of the things international forces should be trying to achieve.

So well done, its another huge cock up all round. People don't believe each other, don't trust each other and have been shown that force is effective.

Its like internationals never learn how to handle basic diplomacy, let alone the region.

The decision not to intervene (at least for now) is wise. Gen. Bühler correctly understood the situation there. Those Serbian backstabbers hiding in their lairs would not stop to murder peacekeepers or to use their own kind as human shields. It is likely that those snipers are only waiting for KFOR to act and then to start a bloodshed. The political outcry when KFOR troops would be forced to kill civilians in action to defend themselves against those cowards would make the whole situation only more complicated.

Therefore, it is just to stand down and let them stand in the rain. KFOR should be well capable of supplying its troops by air. It is them which will run soon short of fuel and food.

maybe the KFOR troops will strike at night when there's like 5 people in the roadblocks?

KFOR will stick around for a while but sooner or later those roadblocks have to go.....if we wait this out it will be a matter of time until they run out of food.

KFOR is in charge of security in Kosovo according to 1244 and it closed the border due to security reasons. If KFOR has stepped outside of its mandate rest assured that KFOR's superior, the Security Council, will order it to come inside the mandate.

"I gave up on removing the roadblocks, because I know that there are, hidden among the citizens, members of radical and extremist groups, who are even armed."

Continue to protect what is yours. You have about 95% of the world population behind you.
I have spent many years in the Balkans and Kosovo and I can tell you honestly directly from my heart; 90% of all Kfor, Unmik, Eulex, OSCE and others, support Serbia when it comes to sovereignity of Kosovo. Absolutely no doubt and crystal clear!
There are many many very good, hard working people among the K Albanian normal people, but they are very easy to control by their gangster leaders. (Do not ask me why, must ask someone with education in behavior science).
Resolution 1244 is in full force according to UN. Eulex works under it and must abide it.
And again, Kosovo is NOT a country according to the vast majority of the world and especially the UNSC.
There is no doubt in anyones mind that Serbia is the winner of this latest spectacle.

It has gone as far as it can go.

bganon

pre 12 godina

By his actions over the last several days, Bühler has demonstrated that he is nothing more a spokesman for Thaci and the rest of the KLA scum in Pristina.

Time for a mutual agreed deal I would say!

(maybe on your level, 30 July 2011 00:32)

Good comment. That’s exactly what NATO has become a mighty windbag of windbags – US style military tactics where foot in mouth is first priority just look at the 3 wars they are losing right now. The Serbs have shown that NATO is an emperor without any cloths.

The Serbs are using the same tactics that the Albanians used and the west cannot do a thing about it. Another lesson learnt by dumb Albanians.

Spain - Basque: the same.
