How about looking from the other side of the fence.
Let's suppose some trucks attempted to cross into Serbia from Kosova via Presevo Valley. Assuming these trucks were left to ride for free for three years, suddenly Serbian police sends its officers to block the crossing point an install customs to check on these trucks that have been carrying who knows what for three years. Some Albanian hooligans in P. Valley start rioting and burn the check point.

Then someone claims that these hooligans were simply reacting to the Serbian government action to put some control on its border.

this is kind of funny actually, right on when Tadic called on the Security Council and act as the *victims* some of your population do not understand the concept of shutting up and BE the victim. Results from the security council meeting will be as follows:
1. A police officer was SHOT in the head, which means that the northern part of kosovo is not safe, this also means that there MIGHT be military action in a neighboring territory, which comprises an act of terrorism.
Burning of the customs gates is a NOT clever move either, especially shooting towards KFOR troops and eulex police ? This is dumb, you called the meeting and literally will not benefit from it at all, just like the opinion from the court of justice, ou asked for it, you lost, this will have a similar outcome.

This is very sad. This is what you get of having double standards.

The Serbs say: Kosovo is a Serbian province ruled by UN. So Albanians must use stamp UNMIK.
UN agees on this as 1244 is still valid.
I agree with this on a legal basis.

Albanians say: hey, we are an independent state, so we can use the Kosovo stamp.
US and most of EU agrees with this (at least, Kosovo being a state).

Both sides can claim their own stance as being right. Very sad.

My solution: back to the negotiation table. And guys, come up with a mutual agreed deal this time. It can be done. Look at Czech and Slovak. And Sudan and South Sudan.

Will it be autonomy? Indenpendence? It is up to Serbs and Albanians. Not to us. Or the US or EU. But only a mutual agreed solution is OK.

Finally: this is why a lot of people in Western Europe do not want any more Balkan states in the EU or NATO.

Firstly..I do not support the unilateral decision for Kosovo to be independent without the guarantees of minority rights for the Serbs.. That said I also cannot understand what purpose destroying check points has achieved. Kosovo is still independent and the Serbs are still second class citizens. This is very similar to when the Serbs attacked the US Embassy after the declaration of Kosovo independence. What did that achieve? Absolutely nothing! Moreover it HURT the Serb standing even to this day. If the Serbs wish to assert the assumption that they are fighting for justice, rights and freedom..it certainly will not be achieved through hooliganism.

Because our different approaches to Kosovo you mention to you Kosovo is indepdendent so you should have control over Kosovo, the equivalent is me to say that since Kosovo is Serbia then I support the Serbian army going into Kosovo to restore it to Serbian control. But strangely enough I don't support violence that is because I support a lasting solution that does not involve one side imposing itself upon the other.

So you can see it has nothing to do with having soverignty over your territory for me, its to do with finding a fair and lasting solution so that the region can move forward and there is not a new war in some decades from now.

Almost all Serbian companies have facilities in Montenegro, Macedonia and even in Albania. So Serbian goods are going to be sold in Kosovo. Btw. the trade is a like a water. It always finds its way to the market. And Serbs in Kosovo on twitter are saying that Serbs does not block at all Serbs entering Kosovo from the Serbia proper.

Thaci's 'Saakasvili moment' no doubt. No official green light given by the United States to Pristina, but unofficially... Did Paris, Berlin and London know? Like Saakashvili, time is running out for Thaci and he decided it was a 'now or never' moment in time. We will judge the western nations on their reactions at the UNSC.

I agree too, let's negotiate but from equal positions not from the position where Serbia has the upper hand. You cannot say let's negotiate while you have your way first. We negotiated and your man made it clear that there is no way Serbia would allow goods from Kosova with K. stamp.

The starting point for negotiations is:
Serbia stops goods from Kosova, Kosova stop goods from Serbia.
This is the equal position and the start of any negotiations over this issue. These are two equivalent positions, now let's negotiate if you like.


KPS did not start the violence. They simply tried to set the stage for starting the negotiations from equal positions. They simply wanted to stop the goods from Serbia. It was Serbian hooligans who started the violence. "Kosova is Serbia" is a meaningless statement and bring nothing to both sides.

This very clearly shows once more where the vilance origiantes, and who is to blame for violence, death and unreal behaviour in the Balkans. Theses hooligans must have had the support of Belgrade. They even shot a Kosovo policeman. What more proof is needed to show who the aggressor is. Serbia, has no place in Europe in it's present state, and the Serbian media doesn't help to educate their own people, except for B92. I think this was an eye opener to the world of what kind of mentality and thought is still governing huge parts of the serbian population. Absolutly no reflection on what Serbia did in the past, his own present actions, and the bad thing is, there is no change of that visible on the horizon. Even thought, sending special troops there proved to be a right thing to do but not at the right time, whatever happened after today gave Albanian government the good name and showed the Serbs of Kosovo as troublemakers, criminals. Yes, of course i was thinking the same thing. "spontaneous" setting up of roadblocks, fighting and killing policemen, "enemy" civlians... this happened again, and again. and led to the horrors of the 90s, and to a very imperfect "peace."

Kosovar authorities were and are absolutely within their rights, and need to move to control their borders. yes, it should have happened years ago. what game(s) does eulex play, indeed. pretending to be "status neutral" which is such bull.

at first I was supportive of eulex coming to kosova, especially considering how problematic (that's a nice way of putting it) unmik had become. they had a few nasty pieces among their officers, one of whom we had the misfortune to meet. NOT pleasant. and of course several of them got away with murder of kosovar civilians, we are still awaiting justice.

eulex has probably done some? positive things behind the scenes. but in the north, they have actively cooperated with serbian mup. this is not a secret or our paranoia -- our "nice" eulex officer acquaintance was quite open about it, unembarrassed. he was pretending all along what a great job they were doing in mitrovica, but that didn't and doesn't appear evident to me. he was acting as though the (serb) populace there was embracing eulex -- but as we watched those "nice" children giving him their Heil Hitler! salutes -- i wonder where they learned that trick -- i was thinking n mitrovica was still way on the edge.

the intl community (there's no such thing, i know, but let's pretend)needed to work with kosovar authorities to properly control borders and customs a long time ago. to bring law and order into n mitrovica, instead of mafia ueber alles. so when you send out so many mixed messages, no wonder such things occur.

once again: serbia must make peace with its neighbors -- especially bosnia and kosova. until they do, there will be unending troubles, and no one of any ethnicity will be the better.

For your information, UN has already acted. UNMIK has repeatedly said that Kosovo’s Customs Stamps are in line with 1244 and CEFTA provisions.

Why should 1244 be replaced ? Kosovo loves it (to the point of including it in the UDI and Constitution) because its UDI is in accordance with 1244. Serbia loves it, too, even though not to the point of including it in the Constitution. So why replace it ?

Let's suppose some trucks attempted to cross into Serbia from Kosova via Presevo Valley. Assuming these trucks were left to ride for free for three years, suddenly Serbian police sends its officers to block the crossing point an install customs to check on these trucks that have been carrying who knows what for three years. Some Albanian hooligans in P. Valley start rioting and burn the check point.

Then someone claims that these hooligans were simply reacting to the Serbian government action to put some control on its border.

According to the "Der Tagesspiegel", checkpoint of Brnjak burns, too. I repeat, Serbs attacked both border checkpoints and set both ablaze. Kfor is moving in and cealing off everything.

You are not really measuring like with like with your example. Because our different approaches to Kosovo you mention to you Kosovo is indepdendent so you should have control over Kosovo, the equivalent is me to say that since Kosovo is Serbia then I support the Serbian army going into Kosovo to restore it to Serbian control. But strangely enough I don't support violence that is because I support a lasting solution that does not involve one side imposing itself upon the other.

So you can see it has nothing to do with having soverignty over your territory for me, its to do with finding a fair and lasting solution so that the region can move forward and there is not a new war in some decades from now.

The approach from the Kosovo Albanian government is just the wrong approach, but my question still stands, what the hell are the Americans playing at and why did this happen now? Personally I smell incompetence and perhaps that senior Kos Albanian policeman won't be the only one losing his job / reputation in connection with this.

It is Serbia's failure to allow these extremists burn down the checkpoints. Right now, the Serbs gathered at the Ibar bridge but KFOR has blocked the bridge. These extremists do not understand the dialogue they understand with bullets.

UN agees on this as 1244 is still valid.
I agree with this on a legal basis.

Albanians say: hey, we are an independent state, so we can use the Kosovo stamp.
US and most of EU agrees with this (at least, Kosovo being a state).

Both sides can claim their own stance as being right. Very sad.

My solution: back to the negotiation table. And guys, come up with a mutual agreed deal this time. It can be done. Look at Czech and Slovak. And Sudan and South Sudan.

Will it be autonomy? Indenpendence? It is up to Serbs and Albanians. Not to us. Or the US or EU. But only a mutual agreed solution is OK.

Finally: this is why a lot of people in Western Europe do not want any more Balkan states in the EU or NATO.

That said I also cannot understand what purpose destroying check points has achieved. Kosovo is still independent and the Serbs are still second class citizens. This is very similar to when the Serbs attacked the US Embassy after the declaration of Kosovo independence. What did that achieve? Absolutely nothing! Moreover it HURT the Serb standing even to this day. If the Serbs wish to assert the assumption that they are fighting for justice, rights and freedom..it certainly will not be achieved through hooliganism.

Yes, of course i was thinking the same thing. "spontaneous" setting up of roadblocks, fighting and killing policemen, "enemy" civlians... this happened again, and again. and led to the horrors of the 90s, and to a very imperfect "peace."

Kosovar authorities were and are absolutely within their rights, and need to move to control their borders. yes, it should have happened years ago. what game(s) does eulex play, indeed. pretending to be "status neutral" which is such bull.

at first I was supportive of eulex coming to kosova, especially considering how problematic (that's a nice way of putting it) unmik had become. they had a few nasty pieces among their officers, one of whom we had the misfortune to meet. NOT pleasant. and of course several of them got away with murder of kosovar civilians, we are still awaiting justice.

eulex has probably done some? positive things behind the scenes. but in the north, they have actively cooperated with serbian mup. this is not a secret or our paranoia -- our "nice" eulex officer acquaintance was quite open about it, unembarrassed. he was pretending all along what a great job they were doing in mitrovica, but that didn't and doesn't appear evident to me. he was acting as though the (serb) populace there was embracing eulex -- but as we watched those "nice" children giving him their Heil Hitler! salutes -- i wonder where they learned that trick -- i was thinking n mitrovica was still way on the edge.

the intl community (there's no such thing, i know, but let's pretend)needed to work with kosovar authorities to properly control borders and customs a long time ago. to bring law and order into n mitrovica, instead of mafia ueber alles. so when you send out so many mixed messages, no wonder such things occur.

once again: serbia must make peace with its neighbors -- especially bosnia and kosova. until they do, there will be unending troubles, and no one of any ethnicity will be the better.

KFOR General has today called on all who use violence against KFOR soldiers or the police will be answered directly.

While the pansy Tadic soils himself in fear of the oppressed Serbs' uprising, no one in the "EU", the US or NATO will save him. THEY'RE BANKRUPT !!!! I agree too, let's negotiate but from equal positions not from the position where Serbia has the upper hand. You cannot say let's negotiate while you have your way first. We negotiated and your man made it clear that there is no way Serbia would allow goods from Kosova with K. stamp.

The starting point for negotiations is:
Serbia stops goods from Kosova, Kosova stop goods from Serbia.
This is the equal position and the start of any negotiations over this issue. These are two equivalent positions, now let's negotiate if you like.


KPS did not start the violence. They simply tried to set the stage for starting the negotiations from equal positions. They simply wanted to stop the goods from Serbia. It was Serbian hooligans who started the violence. "Kosova is Serbia" is a meaningless statement and bring nothing to both sides.

Where is your so called Illyrian culture you claim to come from - i did not see any trace of high culture in your behaviour while serving in Kosovo or any material proof to that wishful thinking of yours - or actually there were - armies of stolen luxury cars! Still, for sake of truth, around Djakovica, where there were some Albanian Christian villages one could observe some kind of harmony and order...
And believe - Serbs are not afraid of your so called special forces - they would be using the same tactic as insurgents in Afghanistan and no one would soon bothering them anymore - and in any open armed conflict you would be destroyed for sure - so better do not strive for that!
to Serbs - just hold up and resist against both - but try to avoid KFOR casualties - and then int community can not blame on you (though for sake of truth Albanians in 2004 got away with that despite hurting hundreds of KFOR and UN personnel)

Almost all Serbian companies have facilities in Montenegro, Macedonia and even in Albania. So Serbian goods are going to be sold in Kosovo. Btw. the trade is a like a water. It always finds its way to the market. And Serbs in Kosovo on twitter are saying that Serbs does not block at all Serbs entering Kosovo from the Serbia proper.

Right onto Thaci's trap. Next move, complain about Serbian sponsored hooligans, and block both checkpoints with barricades. Mission: block Serbian goods to enter Kosova, accomplished.

Even thought, sending special troops there proved to be a right thing to do but not at the right time, whatever happened after today gave Albanian government the good name and showed the Serbs of Kosovo as troublemakers, criminals. At the end, German and American troops would control the border control points and make sure that embargo takes place. Serbia and Kosovo Serbs would look bad at the meeting of SC and it will be a meeting where Jeremic will get a slap in his face. Albanians one more time won the political means of this battle. UN must act strongly here. And tell Albanians: as Kosovo is a Serbian province ruled by UN as per 1244 UN is deceiding what stamps to use. Not Kosovo provincial government or Serbia or whoever...

If the UN does not act strongly against unilateral actions of both sides it will lose all legitimicity worldwide! If UN does not act know why should we expect the UN to act anywhere?

For your information, UN has already acted. UNMIK has repeatedly said that Kosovo’s Customs Stamps are in line with 1244 and CEFTA provisions.

Seria should wake up and know that Kosova is indepedent, we will use all the possiblities to to protect are country, and for terrorist grups thay should know that there is a lot of people from Drenica ready to go to Mitrovica and UçK is still alive.

Why should 1244 be replaced ? Kosovo loves it (to the point of including it in the UDI and Constitution) because its UDI is in accordance with 1244. Serbia loves it, too, even though not to the point of including it in the Constitution. So why replace it ?
