I have seen stupid people in my time but nothing beats the Albanians in Kosovo. They are cutting off their noses to spite their faces with this so called economic embargo as it only hurts them. Hey they love the US enough to die from them then why not suffer for them.
(sj, 26 July 2011 04:10)

Bravado, stupidity, call it what you will. Here is the poorest region in Europe putting an embargo on Serbia which is one of the main exporters of Wheat in the Balkans of which their is a major shortage. In fact, Serbia itself may put a ban on exports to feed it's domestic demand. So the Kosovo Albanian government is going to spend money it does not have to pay a higher price for wheat in the open market, if they can get it.

See article below:

03 2011 Life in Kosovo broadcast a debate about Kosovo’s wheat shortage, along with an interview with the Minister of Health, Ferid Agani, and two video reports.
To begin the show, the host, Jeta Xharra, showed a recorded visit to a farmer, whom she asked what should be done to increase wheat production in Kosovo. The questions included the following:
Do farmers profit if they plant wheat in Kosovo? Are Kosovars too lazy to farm the land? Why has the government not created a state reserve of flour?
In order to discuss this issue, Ms. Xharra was joined in the studio by the following guests:
-Blerand Stavileci, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development
-Dardan Sejdiu, economist from the FER party

Being asked if the government already has a strategy for tackling the country’s lack of flour, Mr. Stavileci replied that “the government offers two models. The first one is practical, which I strongly support, and the second is the one which divides into…the short and long term.”

He said that the first model would require the government to ensure that all farmers use their land to the full. “Whatever support schemes we create, farmers’ commitment to the land farming is essential,” he concluded.
Mr. Sejdiu replied by saying that “Kosovo fulfills around 30 to 50 per cent of its citizens’ cereal needs, so we are dependent on imports to cover the rest.”
After extended discussions about what the government has concretely done, the debate ended with Mr. Sejdiu saying that “we should move on from the idea that other countries and institutions should help us in developing these processes. Our agricultural policies must be based on the needs of this country’s citizens and not on the inputs that come to us from others. This should be reflected in the budget.”
After the debate, BIRN broadcast an interview by journalist Alban Selimi with the Minister of Health, Ferid Agani, about reported irregularities by his ministry. Mr. Selimi asked Mr. Agani about the possible consequences for officials who have won tenders from the ministry.
During the show, journalist Edona Musa also revealed how urine analyses are carried out in the Family Medicine Clinical Centre in Kosovo.
To close the show, journalist Muhamet Hajrullahu talked about the recruitment process for ten air traffic controllers at Adem Jashari international airport.

"This is a senseless act that we suspect was perhaps organized in concert with EULEX," Bogdanovic told Beta news agency.

Why the hell should EU/EULEX support these idiotic unilateral moves by Thaci? EULEX is there not to create more trouble, as well as KFOR. The EU forced Belgrade and Pristina into a dialogue. And the EU commission immediately condemned these actions as "not helpful"

No, these are the actions of some lousy amateur politicians in Pristina who don't have any clue and think they can play big. No wonder, their only merits and qualifications are having been a KLA fighter, and having been a mafia clan boss doesn't make you a good president.

Albanian terrorists are loosing nerves!
Their goal is not to seize the "border"posts, their goal is to create terror and fear, step up the pressure on the Serbs in the North so they would etnically cleanse them!
That is what Tadic needs to make clear to the Western politicians, this action has no backing from the EU or KFOR,they already said it!
Build barricads,do not allow these terrorists to achieve their goals and negotiate with KFOR so they force the Albanians back!

What do you need "special forces" for for taking administrative points?
Why not mixed Serb-Albanian police units?

Because it is a part of the greater Albanian plan and it will fail,Serbs from North are not going anywhere!

The West must stop the Albanian fascists immediately, this crisis is solely the responsibility of extremist Albanian nationalists in Pristina(Taci & co)

Recommend (0)Poor comment (0)What's thisThis is just Kosovo taking control of it's own boarders, an internal affair; should have happened a long time ago.

All these comments regarding "genocide" and sending in the Serbian military are ridiculous. Some people are so brainwashed by nationalist tendencies and scream genocide every five minutes. People here are saying that Serbia should send in their armed forces then they wonder why people view Serbia as the main aggressor in the Yugoslav Wars, then they start playing the victim.

Anyway I thought under UNSCR 1244 the Kosovo police should have authority all over Kosovo, so Serbia can carry on living in denial as this move is acceptable under their ever so precious UNSCR 1244.
(Ian, UK, 26 July 2011 10:58)

UNSC 1244 Also says
1. Kosovo is not independent
2. Kosovo doesnt have Borders, it has administration lines
3. These Administrations Lines are to be manned by KFOR until they say otherwise, since they had know knowledge of this invasion, then this move violates UNSC 1244

Also, Sending in the Serbian military is not a crazy option (assuming they dont go into Southern Kosovo), total Control from the Serbian government over the north is possibly the most productive thing there could be for the territory
(New Zealander, 26 July 2011 11:24)
Have you ever read 1244??, if so maybe doing so in your native language whatever that may be might help!

1."Facilitating a political process designed to determine Kosovo's future status" Does not specify what that future status may be. Independence has always been an option.
2."Conducting border monitoring duties as required;" No mention of administrative lines in 1244.
3. Is also covered by 2 and note it says "as required", meaning it is not their primary responsibility but usually only gets involved during times of escallating tensions, which may happen now.

As far as Serbian personell entering I think the Kumonovo agreement spells it out very clearly: "under no circumstances shall any Forces of the FRY and the Republic of Serbia enter into, reenter, or remain within the territory of Kosovo or the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ) and the Air Safety Zone (ASZ) described in paragraph 3. Article I without the prior express consent of the international security force ("KFOR") commander."

An Act of war against Nato and the UN? Kosovo is a member of neither, The UN charter gives Serbia the right to do that. Nor does Nato need Kosovo any more, they have Romania and Bulgaria further east of them.

A Statement Like that is Pathetic.
(New Zealander, 26 July 2011 08:29)
The Kumonovo agreement establishes an area of 5 kilometers around Kosovo that Serbian forces cannot enter, Resolution 1244 prohibits the renetering of Serbian forces into Kosovo for any military intervention. NATO has been charged with enforcing both agreements. Eventhough the govt of Kosovo has declared independence, as long as 1244 is valid Serbia cannot enter. NATO will have to intervene and block Serbian forces and the first shot will be an act of war.
What is pathetic is that someone would suggest such an act! Especially knowing your present govt is not going to even approach the subject nor allow your nationalist paramilitary groups to do so.

I disagree with some extreme guys from both sides that call for aggression! Ballkan is far behind the developed world, we have to compete with them and not fight with each other!
The biggest problem in Ballkan is that people feel unconformable if their neighbors may have any success. This goes for both sides.
This is an old style of governing the country from both sides, new generations directed to success need to come in surface.

First of all, Serbia never boycotted goods stemming from Kosovo, as long as it complies with 1244 UN resolution. Second of all, it is so-called Kosovo who breaks the CEFTA agreement which was applied in practice, until so-called. Kosovo (supported by one of the worlds greatest forces) decided to break the agreement and to forcibly impose the will of Albanians over the will of Serbs in the north. If USA supports this violent act, which closely resembles to the 2004 pogrom and exodus of Serbs, the USA will clearly send a message that they are not interested in finding a solution, but rather to cause more suffering in Balkans. The agenda of the USA applied in Balkans relies either on malicious intentions, or on pure desinformation and incompetence. I choose to believe that it's the second, and not the first, though, I am not so sure anymore... Exterminate Serbs from Croatia, exterminate Serbs from Kosovo, exterminate Serbs from Bosnia... is that the only agenda of the USA when it comes to the Balkans? At least it does look so...

The people in the north of the so-called Kosovo, are strongly opposing this violent action, which seems to be executed with silent approval of western powers, particularly USA. Doesn't democracy end there, where police guns are pointed against civilians, or is it still democracy because the police guns are albanian, and the civilians are Serbs?

There is no thing such as multi-ethnic Kosovo, if the Albanians are allowed to do this, this will not lead to multi-ethnic Kosovo, but to a new exodus of Serbs (slow, but massive migrations and moving away) and to the creation of second purely albanian state in Europe.

Hypocrisy and failure to recognize a failure lead to another failure...

The biggest problem in Ballkan is that people feel unconformable if their neighbors may have any success. This goes for both sides.
This is an old style of governing the country from both sides, new generations directed to success need to come in surface.

All these comments regarding "genocide" and sending in the Serbian military are ridiculous. Some people are so brainwashed by nationalist tendencies and scream genocide every five minutes.

To close the show, journalist Muhamet Hajrullahu talked about the recruitment process for ten air traffic controllers at Adem Jashari international airport.

pre 12 godina

As long as West and Albs know that Serbian government just talks, they will do what ever they want. You just need a better government in Serbia.

You mean like in Northern Ireland, where the troubles flare up at least once a year thanks to the Orange Order marches, Mr. O'Doherty? The Orange Order dont run Northern Ireland. Besides they are a private organisation and they could admit and they could be controlled by one legged lesbians in a space suit for all I care.

That wasn't my point as you know. My point is that 90 years after the Anglo-Irish treaty you still don't have peace in your north. Before you give advise to others you should get your own island in order.

"Anyway I thought under UNSCR 1244 the Kosovo police should have authority all over Kosovo, so Serbia can carry on living in denial as this move is acceptable under their ever so precious UNSCR 1244."
but at a resolution of 1244 police forces must have labels and UNMIK police are not an independent Kosovo and Metohija at this resolution.
Оn all official documents must be written UNMIK

Especially knowing your present govt is not going to even approach the subject nor allow your nationalist paramilitary groups to do so.

let's get the facts right here, it does not matter what Serbia, Kosovo or Eulex say here, UN (USA top leaders)have all agreed with Thaci to go ahead with this plans and it will be implemented, it will go ahead till the end and yes Kosovo Special Forces will take full control no doubt about it. For any escalation of the situation there UN will blame Belgrade end of the day. Eulex and KFOR were informed few months back of the serbian products ban into Kosovo and also at that time the move for taking the 1 and 31 checkpoint were discussed and arranged. what we see today has been co-ordinated months back between Kosovo and UN.
