I think the demos when Karadic and Mladic were arrested were very weak. The message from nationalists previously somehow seemed to imply that all of Serbia would be out there - but that was not the case.

The Hague tribunal was set up to make the serious point that the sort of disgusting murders of innocents that occurred in the Balkan conflict will not be forgotten and will be punished.

Those murders have spoilt the reputation of Serbia in the world, and lost much sympathy for the country. That is the stupidity of the nationalist approach that Milosevic took. It was politically inept and it has harmed Serbia deeply.

This arrest marks an end of a chapter.

It also acts as a whipping to those nationalists who put their own bigotries above decency and above the lives of innocents.

For the sake of Serbia, please condemn nationalistic paranoia and move on. I make no defence of NATO and I do not agree with the Kosovo udi. However, I am even more adamantly against those who spoilt Serbia's good name by murdering in that name.

Nationalist arguments from Serb nationalists look pathetic to the rest of the world - there is no respect for it, and the reaction against it is counter-productive from Serbia's point of view.

Fortunately there are democratic people in Serbia, with a respect for law, who are moving Serbia forward to better times.
