Maybe looking at history Mr.Leonidas is right but with a booming economy, 80 million of potential consumers and a big strategical positions Turkey is a vey interesting candidate...at least this is the opinion of the majority of politicians here in Italy

The 80 million potential consumers you're talking about are already actual consumers through the customs union. But membership will give the Turks the upper hand through the voting system, a state of affairs that will never be accepted by Germany and France.

As to Italy's opinion I am afraid neither the Germans or the French are going to take it into consideration.Right now the Germans are probably thinking their bank investments in Italy and Spain are teetering on the brink of worthlessness. Can the EU save the day? I am afraid not.Even the Germans cannot write a cheque for 2 trillion euros.

Gee the story sounds so familiar what Turkey Turks did in Cyprus. O yes Serbia Serbs did in the country of Bosnia and to their other close neighbours. Then again they both have the same history and mentality military deranged sadistic opportunist. Both religious fanatics and use their religions as a right to be evil go figure. How can their neighbours deal with such schizoids peoples that they never think they do anything wrong.

Turkey was given EU candidate status in 1999, and started accession negotiations six years later - without any significant progress to date.

Sulking mullah Erdogan is a populist who praises his Country's history which has oppressed and killed thousands of kurds, ethnically cleansed 200000 Greeks in Cyprus and killed 1.5 million Armenians and he wants EU membership, come hell or high water. Erdogan's infamous declaration that "minarets are our bayonets" reveals what his plan is really.is..

The EU may not be around ten years from now.Even if the EU stays together, Turkey will not be accepted for a variety of compelling reasons ie many Europeans fear further waves of uncontrolled immigration if Turkey becomes a full member.
The thought of having a European border with Iran is simply too ridiculous for words. Turkey is not in Europe. It is in Asia. Admitting Turkey to the EU would be tantamount to cultural suicide.
