Because, unlike Kosovo, South Sudan was createt after a mutual agreement was reached, and not by an unilateral declaration. Simple and easy.

Because unlike in Kosova's case Russia did not block their membership at the UN Sec Council. Simple and easy.
(ben, 15 July 2011 13:58)

Correct. But don't forget about China. And it's crystal clear that the second (the blocking of membership) is a direct result of the first (UDI instead of mutual agreement).
(Analyst, 15 July 2011 16:44)

And because Khartoum was willing to negotiate also the prospect of future secession when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in 2005. And Khartoum did not rush through a new constitution in the midst of those talks, making the eventual secession, should that be the will of the majority of the people in the South, a violation of that constitution.

How much we do know about African culture and history? Nothing. Not part of the curriculum (at least in Hungary or Russia). That part of the world does not exist.

Not knowing who is Ban Josip Jelačić, Miloš Obilić or Kastrioti will make you repeat the year, no mercy from the history teacher. Same about Genghis Khan or Suleiman, the Magnificent. And who does not know where is Taj Mahal is probably living under a rock.

After that "obviously" one Indian, Mongol or Frenchman is worth at least 100 Africans or more.... since no one knows about them.

The entire history the way we learn it centers around a rather small area, completely ignoring the rest and the fact, it was Africa where the "white man" came from, all of us.

Now we can see the results. The scary number of victims is unfortunately correct, maybe even downgraded.

An event and feeling that "Kosova" will never know! Of course the remaining Serbs in Kosovo have no need for this for they have their own country: The Republic of Serbia.

"LOL. how come Kosovo is not a member of anything yet?"

"The African tribes of South Sudan and the mainly Arab north fought two civil wars over more than five decades. About 2 million people died in the latest war, from 1983-2005."

Congratulations to South Sudan.
I am struck by the number of 2 million dead in 22 years. That makes 90 thousand a year in average. 250 a day. I hope it is not true, hope it is one of those fake numbers flying around and picked up by journalists without any verification. The recent wars in the Balkans don't come even close to that. Makes one think about the luck of being in Europe.

Congratulations, South Sudan. After decades of tyranny and destruction created by Khartoum, you also reached this day. I'm very happy for you.

What is also interesting how reluctant African nations have reacted to this. Most of the countries which recognized South Sudan are Western countries, yet. Apparently, that kind development is very uncomfortable for many autocratic regimes in this continent
