mike/bganon,
The issue of national identity in Montenegro is both far older and far more complex than you seem to appreciate. For more recent academic studies, check Robert's 'Realm of the Black Mountain' and Morrison's 'Montenegro: A Modern History'. Neither of the two could be blamed for having any bias toward or against Serbs, but both arrive at more or less the same conclusion that most Montenegrins have historically perceived themselves, as they also have been perceived by foreigners, as being different from Serbs in Serbia proper, while at the same time having a dual identity of Montenegrin/Serb, in which the relative weight between the two would shift over time and circumstances.
Those who think this is about a historically recent attempt to split Serbian unity, engineered by Djukanovic and Tito before him, are simply ignorant about the history of Montenegro.
