Asking the British to get on with the Greeks is like asking the Serbs to get on with the Albanians: it doesn't matter how many times you say it, it just ain't going to happen. Much the best bet is if we buy one or two of these islands off them, encourage the locals to leave and run them for ourselves. That way the Greeks get to make a small hole in their national debt and our people can go on holiday without the risk of getting stabbed by Stavros and his "close friends". Everybody wins.

As usual another idiotic comment from a former Balkanite which shows he hasn't been to Greece but thinks he's qualified to post upon.

To start with,99% of the incidents that take place in two of the most popular resorts with the young Brits, Mallia in Crete and Cavos in Corfu are between the Brits themselves and not between Greeks and Brits.Greeks do not frequent those places.

As to your jibe about buying two Greek islands there is a problem here.Your Queen's bank -bank of England-having printed £1 trillion in the last two years, it has run out of paper and cannot afford to buy anymore.Pray for Ireland not to default because if they did your banks will call it a day and you'll be on your bike to balkans.

This is what happens when you dont pay your Taxi Fare
(New Zealander, 14 July 2011 08:26)

This incident had nothing to do with taxi fair payment. The fight reportedly broke out after the two taxi drivers objected to being repeatedly targeted by laser guided pens held by the British tourists.

Although the vast majority of tourists are well behaved there is still a sizeable minority engaging in drink-fueled binges that turn many youngsters into aggressive troublemakers. It's not an exaggeration to say that virtually every night young tourists act inappropriately, swear and provoke locals and passers-by.

I think these incidents are the result of cheap package tourism that Greece can do without.

12/07/2011Germans, Austrians boost Croatian tourism: official data

The tourism industry in Croatia, the key sector of the Adriatic country's recession-hit economy, grew in the first six months of the year, official figures showed on Tuesday.

During the January-June period more than 3.2 million tourists visited Croatia -- led by Austrians, Germans and Slovenians, the national tourist board figures showed. This was 11 percent more than in the first half of 2010.

Tourists accounted for 13.7 million overnight stays which was a 13-percent increase from the figure for the same period last year.

As European countries recover from the economic crisis Croatia hopes to attract a record number of tourists this year. The tourism industry makes up around 18 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP).

Last year Croatia had 10.6 million tourists, visiting mainly its stunning Adriatic coast in July-August period, while the income from tourism amounted to 6.24 billion euros (8.7 billion euros).

According to first estimates during the first six months of the year tourists in Croatia spent around 10 percent more compared with the previous year. You know if this happened in Serbia it would receive much more media attention and you'd hear about it for years without end. But when tourists are regularly killed around other countries you do not have the whole country or people of that country demonized for it, nor is much said about it after a few days - if even that much.
There were 2 Brit men shot in the U.S. (Florida) several weeks ago and no one cares about that after 3 days. Really its double standards for Serbs and the Serbian people. They get blamed as a whole for any single crime - and often you find the crimes are committed by non-Serbs from Serbia.
